  1. yeah I saw that I just placed my order. Signed up for their credit card and got 15% off, unfortunately I didn't let me combine it with the 10% off offer but still $339.15 shipped is not bad
  2. looks like that 10% replaced 15% from last week, dang. I should have ordered already. I wonder how often they have these promotions
  3. hmm LL Bean has 15% off if you sign up for their card and no tax in my state, I might just do that instead of amazon. The best part of buying from Beans is they will always allow you to return the item for a refund. Very similar to REI. I'm funding this new Garmin in part by returning an old Delorme PN-40 that I purchase in the past. They gave me a Full refund via a store credit even though I didn't request it, which I put total the new 650t. You gotta luv Beans sounds great! And they list the earliest shipping date of all the retailers

  5. amazon has 3/31 for 600 and 4/1 for 650. I am just wondering how long does it usually take to get FCC approval and will they push the release date back. I want to buy Oregon 600 and I'd rather go with early March
  6. So are we still looking at march 1st release date ? On garmin website it still shows being reviewed by FCC and amazon shows april 1st
  7. it would be awesome if I could transfer tracks from my GPS to the computer via bluetooth. I hate having to plug in the usb cable every time
  8. So, exactly how many geocaches (in GPX files, not GGZ files) will the 600 series hold? It's obviously not unlimited, since to get this "feature" you have to play by Garmin's rules, not the rules of the rest of the world. That could well be a make-or-break spec for mainstream geocachers. --Larry Wild guess here - no less than Montana or Oregon 400
  9. Only motivation is to prepare those reading this thread for disappointment after they realize Groundspeak will not be playing well with future Garmin products. As long as Groundspeak exports GPX and garmin imports GPX I am not too worried. And I am 100% confident this will not change. Some of the new fancy features not being supported by Groundspeak ? perhaps, but as long as I can load up the standard cache information I'm cool with it. No way I am switching to another system after logging caches on gc.com for 7+ years no matter what other extra features they might have
  10. Watch the video with translations...makes so little sense it's funny! yeah apply the same formula to any youtube video (even the ones spoken in english)
  11. btw the video looks great. Of course coming from 60CSX all the new menus looks super fancy to me, but I like how snappy navigating the menus or scrolling down the lists looks. I am definitely buying Oregon 600 when it comes out (unless they announce something else before then
  12. fortunately youtube now has built in caption translator. unfortunately it doesn't work that good
  13. Buy it from L.L. Bean. Lifetime warranty for repair, exchange or refund at any time for any reason. do tell more Go do research above and beyond the warranty I pretty much quoted right here. Or R.E.I I like L.L Bean. I'm on the, ahem, "same" pair of hiking boots from the '90s. I bought my Montana 600 from Bean to try it out and returned it because I really didn't want to spend that much. I did it because I could absolutely not find one around here to play with in person. Got a full refund no problem and then bought it right back from them a while later after they dropped the price and they'd sent me a 20% off email coupon. I wonder if that works for mail orders too, we don't one in Colorado. Although I have owned several garmin units in my life and not a single one ever broke so I'm not too worried about that.
  14. Buy it from L.L. Bean. Lifetime warranty for repair, exchange or refund at any time for any reason. do tell more
  15. All the versions are now listed on Amazon but with release date of April 1st
  16. I wonder if there will be 3rd party rechargeable batteries available. I plan on buying Oregon 600 but don't feel like paying $25 for a rechargeable pack since its' not included. I don't care too much about using the gloves since I don't leave the house if it's too cold The redraw speed is still kinda lacking compared to say google maps on a smart phone but it looks faster than my 60csx and I can easily deal with that.
  17. There is a separate market for GPS units that is apart from smartphone use. The two markets probably won't eclipse for some time to come. Overlap sure but total eclipse is far off. For me adding useless features and frivolous bells and whistles is BS. The features I'm talking about are things like the "Vertical Dist To Dest" data field (very useful) that they deemed fit for the Montana but nothing else. Things like that, firmware things, that could have and should have been retroactive on all models that drives me crazy. Garmin does make some excellent products however and they are usually solidly built and you can tell some though went behind the design and materials (the Colorado being the exception ). I'm excited about the new Oregon series but I'm happy enough with my Montana (Garmin should have given me something to desire) that I'll let it come to market and mature a bit or even wait until the Montana series get's it's GLONASS (probably next year if not early summer Q2). I'm really torn between buying Oregon 600 or Montana, I do love the idea of super big screen but I really want Glonass. I think that as long as I never use Montana I won't really miss the large screen, from what I hear everyone that got used to it can't go back now I won't purchase my new GPS until April/May so perhaps another device will be announced by then. Also, I thought about selling 60csx to help cover the cost of the new unit but now I'm thinking I'll just hold on to it as a reliable backup.
  18. For me handheld GPS wins over smartphone because it is rugged, I don't mind dropping it, I don't mind it getting dirty or wet, I don't mind operating it with dirty hands, the battery life is significantly higher than phones (plus you can always carry extra AA batteries). I personally don't care about the trend of adding tons of extra features into GPS if it means higher price / worse firmware / more lockups, but if they can pull it off correctly why not. I had my current GPS (60csx) for over 6 years and it's rock solid, never ever had any issues with it. I plan on getting new gps this year (most likely Oregon 600) and all this talk about newer models having firmware issues makes me a little worried.
  19. well I still have good ol'60csx and I am planning on buying new unit this summer. Oregon 600 sure looks very tempting but I really like the higher screen size and resolution of Montana. Does anyone know if there is a planned refresh for Montana units this year as well?
  20. Hello, I created a map from my gps tracks a while ago and saved it in the polish format (.mp extension) using GPSMapEdit software. Unfortunately I ended up deleting the original gpx files and now I am wondering - is there any way to export the tracks from the .mp file back into gpx ? thanks
  21. how about this log ? "This one actually really made us mad. We hiked all the way down the mountain to find this one cache only to find nothing but a river where the GPS said it would be. We spent over 30 min checking a 40 foot radius only to walk away empty handed. Please have someone check this cache out. DO NOT BOTHER HIKING DOWN UNTIL THIS CACHE IS FIXED. " This was the very first time this guy was ever geocaching - and according to his profile also the last time. This cache actually requires few miles of hiking to get to, I went out there to check on it and sure enough it was exactly where I originally hid it... Word of advice - please don't say "don't bother looking" in your logs next time
  22. something tells me there is a huge difference between a right to own a GPS and skulking around airforce bases
