  1. Embra could you send me fix also? I always like to use backup disk and keep orginal in safe place. Thanks
  2. Magellan needes to live up to their word but based on my previous experience with this company; I would not expect much from them. Hopefully there will be some other software in future that can be used with their GPSs.
  3. Magellan seems to have problem with their power cable. Mine did same and the replacement that came in was just like the old one and I used electrial tape to prevent insulation from pulling loose on this one.
  4. After several e-mails over several weeks I finally got tracking number for power cord that was defective. I was glad that the cord was still usable with help of electrical tape otherwise the GPS would have been useless while waiting on Magellan support.
  5. Contacted Magallen again with no response - What terrible support!!!
  6. Magellan support is by far the worst I have seen. I got a defective cord and received e-mail saying to expect "something" in 5 to 7 business days and it has been 3 weeks. Wasn't sure if they were talking about new cord or support responce. If I know what I know now; Magellan would have never got any of my money.
  7. Delorme Topo 5.0 has much more detailed POIs on their program than MapSend Topo 3D. I use my GPS primiarly for hiking to find sources of water, mountain tops, gaps, etc and the Delorme program has far more details than the Magellan program. Some of the more common POIs are not listed on the Magellan topo maps.
  8. I find the MapSend Topo 3D far inferior to the Delorme 5.0 Topo software. Let's hope they make the Delorme software work with Explorist GPS on next revision.
  9. I have an Explorist 500 with a power/data cable coming apart. You can see wires where data cable connects to power adapter in middle of cable. I have now submitted 2 e-mail request for support on their web site and have not heard back from them. From viewing support postings on this site it seems their support has many short comings. Just used some electrial tape and fixed problem myself - unit not even 2 months old. They don't even sell cables for Explorist on their site but with help from good people on this site was able to order cable from Pc-Mobile.
  10. CD is required in DVD/CD drive for both MapSend DirectRoute and MapSend Topo 3D to operate program. Problem with DirectRoute it is hard for me to get program to run. Uninstalled and reinstalled this morning again with my 2nd drive, maybe it will work this time. It always works after you reboot but after a while using the computer it stops working - conflict somewhere. I wish Delorme Topo would work with Explorist, it is much better Topo program than the Magellan Topo 3D.
  11. Have similiar problem with Mapsend DirectRoute version 2.00f(patch won't work- for older version). Using Windows XP with service pkg 2 and have 2 diffirent DVD drives and program won't start with data cd in either drive. Reinstalled program and still have problem of getting program to run - it does nothing when I click on shortcut icon or try to start from start menu. Found only way to start program is to reboot. Don't have same problem with Mapsend Topo 3D. Magellan support is near worthless. Still waiting on responce for defective data cable from them.
  12. Wondering if anyone knows if GSAK supports new file formats for Explorist?
  13. I purchase a universal mount for windshields for under $10 from Advance Auto Parts. It has a quick release for suction cup that is helpful when removing from windshield.
  14. Has anyone been able to find extra Eplorist cable? Magellan was taking orders for defective ones and did not have any to sell.
  15. You only need battery pack from BoxWave. You plug the cable that came with the Explorist directly into battery pack. I just saw that Everyready has 2500 mAh rechargable batteries in stores. You would only need a couple sets of these to last a whole week in field with the BoxWave. My old ones from Everyready are 1700 mAh that are a couple of years old and still going strong.
  16. Just got the BoxWave battery adapter sku bw-9-0-0 that hold 4 AA rechargable or regular batteries and it works with USB cable that comes with Explorist as external power or to recharge battery in GPS. This will give you a way to use GPS in field without need for electricity, as long as you have batteries. It has on/off switch and led power light. You can get it at BoxWave for 19.50 plus shipping. Fast service from BoxWave.
  17. Magellan has made it impossible for people that own legal copies of other software to use it with the new Explorist .imi file format. Now my copy of Delorme Topo USA 5.0 is useless - this sucks. They are trying to force us to use their software - this is like Dell Computers telling you that you must only use Dell software. Maybe there is a conversion utility that will convert other file formats into the .imi format.
  18. Please try turning the adapter that connects to Explorist around 180 degrees. The correct position is for cord end to point to bottom of GPS. Make sure it is turned on in menu and not on power only mode. Hope this may help. I can access the SD memory card through Explorist through My Computer - show as a SD drive.
  19. Found Belkin cigarette USB Sync Charger for $10. at OfficeMax on clearance. If you can't use cable for another device and just keep USB cigarette adapter. Puts out 5.5 Vdc at 700mA. Will work with cable that came with Explorist.
  20. Found flexible suction windshield mount that will hold GPS's/cell phones at Advance Auto Parts for $7.98 and it has 5 year replacement warranty. Part # 10150011
