  1. Farthest that I've gone for strictly a cache find was about an hour drive to go to "Rager Mountain Cache" (GCKG9M). Worst part is, my 20 dollar dog's leash fell out of my backpack somewhere during the hike.
  2. I was online researching a GPSr to buy for backpacking and day hiking. One of the sites that had GPSr reviews mentioned geocaching. I ended up at the geocaching website, and was instantly hooked. Ended up buying a GPSr the next day at 6pm, made my first find an hour later...
  3. No, I didn't get your email. Not in my inbox or bulk folder. But that doesn't surprise me, my Yahoo email has been known to do things like this in the past. I actually was wondering about how the proximity checking is performed...is it completely automated, or done manually using software, or completely manually?
  4. I have a cache awaiting approval (GCQJNH) that was initially reviewed and because of proximity problems the reviewer placed it on hold. After relocating the two problematic stages and updating the description, I posted a reviewer note and emailed the approver. Five days have elapsed since then and I haven't heard anything. I posted a question about this in a local geocaching organization mailing list, and another member replied that he had a similar problem. His cache was placed on hold, he made the requested changes, but never heard back about it (It has been a month for him!). I just wanted to find out if this could be a general problem that caches placed on hold are 'falling through the cracks' somehow and getting lost in the approval process. Thanks! DRDawson
  5. Well, if someone had gone looking for this http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2e-4be5c8274662 cache on the 16th or 17th, they would have found http://www.postgazette.com/pg/05263/574718.stm this. A group of kids did, however. I know the area and the trail, having done the cache a while back. Pretty scary and sad. Thankfully, the cache owner saw this and has disabled the cache.
  6. I've used Goop in the past for certain things and it has worked well. Liquid Nails is also good. Never tried the Gorilla Glue.
  7. DRDawson: I guess some people read it as "Doctor Dawson", but it is just my initial (Darren), my wife's initial (Ruth) and our dogs name (Dawson). He's the cutest dog in th e world, I have pictures to prove it my gallery!
  8. Had an interesting animal encounter just a few days ago in a pittsburgh area park (boyce). My dog was on the trail ahead of me about 10 yards when he startled a deer that was bedded down next to the trail. The deer, attempting to run away from Dawson, ran straight at me. It was about five feet away from me before I finally yelled and scared it in a different direction.
