  1. We have an etrex legend that also autoroutes and it sounds like the map set isn't active. First you will not be able to route with the Topo maps as they don't contain the data. Goto the menu select setup, Map, then scroll to the Icon that says " Information" and make sure the city navigator maps are checked. This is how it would work on the etrex and from what I have seen the menu system is very similar on these two units. If the city nav. maps aren't selected or if you have the Topo maps selected the autoroute feature will automatically revert to the base map Hope this helps.
  2. I'm not sure ( I've Never used it) but I think the link on the site only downloads the coordinates, and I'm not sure if the 60 csx can hold that much info in it ( we have an etrex legend). Our solution 1) Become a premium member, This will allow you to get pocket querries which will e-mail you a file that contains all the info for up to 500 caches. 2)Look on ebay for an inexpensive PDA (we got our palm pilot for a $5 including shipping. 3)Download Gsak for your computer not what the cost is (There are free programs but gsak will do a lot for you). 4)download and install Cachemate (about $10 i think) on the PDA ( again there are free ones out there but cachemate is easy to use and worth the money) Gsak will take the file from GC.com and will load alll of them in the GPS at once and will convert them into a file that the PDA program will be able to use. Hope this info was useful
  3. Is there a version of the macro that will run on GSAK 6.6.3????
  4. I just looked on army surplus and have two questions. The first one seems a little silly but is the bid for the entire lot or one individual can. Not sure and just wanted to find out. The other question I have is in the pictures I see the cans seem to have the lids removed. Are they being sold without the lids?? (seems kind of pointless too me) Sorry if these seem like stupid questions but I don't have any experience with auctions. (online or other.) Thanks.
  5. Are you talking about how they are displayed on the GPSr???? If so it would help to know what model you have.
  6. It was my understanding that the WASS sats. were recently replaced (can't remember from what number to what number). If you have the ability you may want to update the software in the GPS otherwise it will be looking for the wrong sats.
  7. We use a palm for caching. First you will need to become a "Premium Member" so you can run Pocket Queries which will allow you to get up to 500 cache pages e-mailed to you in one file called a GPX. Then we use GSAK on the desktop (free for 30 days then a small donation to get rid of the "NAG" screen) this lets you process, organize, send to the GPS (if your gps connects to the computer) and convert them into a file to send to the Palm. On the Palm we useCachemate ($10) this allows us to view the pages in a user friendly format. You may need to visit PALM's website to download a VISTA version of the desktop software for the Palm Pilot. Even if your GPS doesn't connect to the computer and you have to enter them by hand it is a lot easier to carry a palm pilot than a binder of printouts. There are other programs to use (both on the computer and PDA) but for us these seemed to be the easiest for us to learn to use in the beginning. Hope this helps.
  8. I think what you are looking for is a serial to USB converter. It will alow you to connect a device with a serial cable (like the etrex legend) to the usb port on a computer.I haven't had a need to use them but there are people on these forums who do use them (from what I have heard they can be a little of a pain to get them to work) and I beleive you can get them on Ebay rather cheap.Hope this helps
  9. Just a thought but if you are a premium member you could use pocket queries and e-mail one file (with up to 500 caches) that you could use Easy GPS (free program) to load them to the GPS. Sounds like it would be easier than going to each page and loading it one at a time.
  10. we also have certain waypoints that we don't want to delete (such as houses of freinds and amily and land marks in the woods so we don't get lost). With those we do as another poster suggested and use POI Loader. They will not show up on the map (unless you zoom in really close) and I havn't figured out if you can use the ustom symbols. We use this for the waypoints we don't use very often and this way we can just delete all of the waypoints from the GPS (which doesn't hurt it).
  11. We have a explorist 100 and a etrex legendCX and they are always off by a little bit between the two of them.
  12. Our first GPS was a magellan explorist 100 that cost us about $95 at DICKS and you could probably get one cheaper now. We had over 100 finds with it before upgrading, and to this day the wife loves using her Maggie when we go out caching
  13. I just started using Easy GPS so this info is helpful to meas well. One other question I had, Is there a way that when I send the waypoints to the GPSr is it possible to have them listed by smart name instead of GC#???
  14. We have a Legend Etrex CX (the earlier version no high sensitivity receiver). We love it the small design and location of the buttons makes it easy to operate with one hand. I have never used a 60CX but everyone who I have talked too that has the 60CSX and people here say they love it and wouldn't trade it for any other unit. It comes to personal preference but it sounds like either unit would be a good choice.
  15. That's what I thought just wanted another opinion. Thanks
  16. We have a palm VIIx that has a small antenna which for a fee is supposed to connect to somekind of network and let me use programs on it like "Mapquest" and "ask Jeeves". I think I remember reading that palm discontinued this service, and was wondering if this was true and should I just delete these "Internet" programs off of the palm and reclaim the memory??? Thanks for any help
  17. Also keep in mind that if the numbers are off by too much the people looking for it will let you know.
  18. Sounds like you did a good job with getting the numbers tight. If there is a doubt you can always go back on a different day and check them, if you do try on a day when the weather is a little different (sunny when you hid it maybe a little cloudy when you check). I usually ,ake a few trips to check co-ords. before we post them but haven't had too many complaints.
  19. Not sure if this will work on a pocket PC or not but when the batts. on our Palm go dead and the info is lost, all I have to do is put is in the cradle and hit the HOTSYNC button and it completely restores everything.
  20. The etrex HCX doesn't have an electronic compass. From what I have heard the Electronic part of the compass is what eats the batteries and can be turned off. I do know we have a legend CX and it can't be turned off.
  21. I am not familiar with this model (it's been awhile since I used one) but we have the Legend CX (and they should be the same), all you have to do is mark your current location and just edit the coordinates for the cache you want to find. Hope this helps.
  22. If I remember how these worked these came already registered to them and what you had to do is "Grab" it from them and at that point it will show up in your inventory.
  23. I'm surprised nobody else noticed this. It sounds like a tricky one to find and neither DNF convinced me that it wasn't there. What if it's really there? The OP didn't log a DNF so I' not sure why they would start something if they never even tried to look for it. If it were me I'd wait to see what happens with a couple of more finders. Perhaps the owner will even go out and check on it. Give him some time and don't hound the guy over 2 DNFs... I think there is some confusion The original poster said the waypoint is GCPT99. I think this is a misprint and it is supposed GCQT99 This matches the name of the cache and the OP put up a DNF on that cache. If I am wrong please let me know. As for the problem I agree with the other posts contact the reviewer and let them handle it.
  24. The only time I have seen this happen is when I move the pointer on the map screen and the screen won't move until I hit the menu button and cancel that feature.
  25. Didn't realise I had to do anything after installing it. Thanks for the help. Works great now
