  1. This place is great! It's where I bought my iQue and SD card...better prices than anywhere else. I bought a wireless router and PC card from them too.
  2. I use a Garmin iQue 3600, which I absolutely love. It is an integrated GPSr/Palm/Mp3 player. It does auto-routing, with audible turning directions, to get me to the vicinity of the cache. I have a 512MB SD card in it. I have 1:24000 topo maps on it, which I can switch to once I head out on foot. I do, of course, also carry a compass and USGS quad maps if I am in the back country. I use Cachemate for paperless caching, and have some Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton loaded up to keep me company. If the mood strikes me, I can record voice notes while at the cache, rather than type notes into the Cachemate log. I use a Gilsson external antenna, and have a padded waterproof case with a neck lanyard to protect my baby. I also use an external battery pack to recharge it, which uses rechargeable AA batteries. Not the most common setup, but it works for me. Now if only I didn't have to carry a separate camera, I'd be golden!
  3. I know this is a GPSr-centric sport/game and such, but I am frankly surprised that even for long hikes, I didn't see anyone mention bringing a map? Maybe it's just different out here in the mountains, but there's usually at least a couple of people every year who get lost and don't get found for days. If I'm hiking anyhere that I don't see houses, I carry a compass and a USGS quad map for the area that I am in, and each surrounding quad too. Maybe it's overkill, but I don't want the choppers out looking for me! In response to the earlier question, the ten essentials are: Map Compass Flashlight/headlamp Extra food Extra clothing Sunglasses First aid supplies Pocket knife Matches Fire starter Add to that, lots of water, and/or a way to make potable water, either purification tabs or a filter.
  4. The original post sounds like you are having more problems than just locating this software, maybe a more detailed description of just what is not working might elicit some more detailed responses. There are a lot of people using Palms for paperless caching, and they should be able to help you get it set up. I am just getting started myself, but after lurking here for awhile, have already learned a lot. As far as the software goes, I believe what's being referred to is CacheNav, which is companion software to CacheMate. Both are available from smittyware.com. Cachemate is $8.00, and well worth it; CacheNav is free. Once you have them both loaded and are viewing a cache record in CacheMate, hit the "NAV" button and CacheNav will display a compass screen with an arrow directing you to the cache's coordinates.

    Is this thing on?
  6. While the iQue 3200 and iQue 3600, the Palm versions, do not have removable batteries, the Ique M5, the PPC version, does.
