1. DOH! I hope the original repliers can be notified about this.... "MMMMMM....you guys gotta try these geocacher thingys, they taste just like chicken!"- Gentle Ben
2. What the.... The topic has dissapeared from the "general" board....anyone know what's going on? Anyways, I'm very interested in this. I want to be involved. I was going to reply to others on the the general board. "MMMMMM....you guys gotta try these geocacher thingys, they taste just like chicken!"- Gentle Ben
3. Cool! I'm planning to put out a few caches this weekend and I think a few of these few of these nifty items will find thier way into them...Thanks for the great idea, joefrog. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
4. Which caches have been hit so far? Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
5. Perhaps a clear plastic bottle could refract sunlight like a magnifying glass and start the fire that way.... Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
6. I know with the very dry conditions in BC I've decided to wait until the crisis passes before I head back out into the woods to go caching. It's just that I'd hate to accidentally start a fire due to a vehicle malfunction or mishap.(although not likely, it's still quite possible) Also, many authorities are asking the public to voluntarily stay out of areas at risk for a fire.(which seems to be everywhere now!) Has the current situation influenced your decisions regarding caching trips into forested areas? Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee. 7. I had a 315 that I fixed by cracking the case open. But I could have easily destroyed the unit in the process. I had to clamp the unit in a vise and use a screwdriver and hammer to break the case open. The two halves of the case are fused together. I just wanted to see what the inside looked like as it was dead and I was going to throw it away. But I found a bad connection, repaired it, and the unit worked. I bonded it back together with crazy clue, then traded it in at a local sports store on a new GPS unit. I think the 315 is a good basic unit, but am much happier now with a newer unit with more features. Trying to repair this unit may be more trouble than it's worth, and there's a good chance your 315 would be destroyed in an attempt to open the case. 8. Yeah, that sounds like fun. My mother in law is in town this weekend....too bad I have an important meeing to attend at the above coordinates...... Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
9. Hey, sorry to hear about that. Maybe I'll put out a few, easily reached urban caches so that you can do a little caching while you recover. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
10. I intended to go to the pub night but I've done something to my neck and am on muscle relaxants. I can't drive! I hope everyone has a good time, though..... Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
11. The 12th sounds just fine....I'm in! Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.

It was called "Starcache" I believe you were the FTF. At least some geocachers by the name of "Kardian Questers" packed up and saved what was left. The two astronomy books left behind by the looters were the most valuable to me, so it wasn't a complete loss. I'll put a new cache there soon. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.

It was called "Starcache" You were the FTF, remember? Actually, the original hiding place had become grown in with brambles, so I moved it and changed the puzzle a bit. Less than 24 hours later it was reported as plundered. The place where I rehid it looked good. It was out of the way at the far end of the park and was fairly well concealed. All the plunderers left were some astronomy books. They must have plundered the cache just before the geocachers arrived, as it had been pouring rain all day, the books had been thrown around onto the open grass yet they were still dry. The cachers who found what was left and packed it all up , rehid it ,then e-mailed me. I should thank the geocachers that go by the name, "kardian questers" T Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.

Plundered!

I just returned from retrieving one of the first caches I placed. It had been almost completely plundered. (Of course, the brain dead trogs left only the books that were in the cache. Several empty budweiser cans lying around the cache location, too.) I like the park where it was placed, but am not sure if I want to replace the cache there. What would you do? 16. Thanks, Jomarac5 for the advice. I do plan to go to the pub night you mention, and the idea of pulling some of my caches was just a fleeting one. I do plan to place more caches around the valley, but probably in a bit closer to urban areas and closer to each other so that cachers will feel that it is worth their while to travel all the way out here. What I was hoping is that some of the cachers around here would cooperate with me to make this happen, but most seem to want to stay aloof. That's ok.I Know things will take off here eventually. 17. Well I've been watching this post for a while and I guess Canadazuuk is right. As he said in when he logged one of my caches, regarding geocaching in the valley, "it just doesn't want to happen right now" I've been placing caches around Chilliwack hoping that other cachers would do so as well, but there's not much going on here. I'll probably pull in a bunch of my caches and move them to places closer to the city. As for a "pub night" I'll forget about that for now, as there have been about 70 views of this post and only 2 responses. Yup, it doesn't want to happen in the valley right now. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
18. Why not make it a multicache with a blacklight in the first container? Then instruct the finder to replace it on the way back out. Some one did that around here...Put a compass in the first container in case the seeker didn't have one. Alot of visits so far and the compass has always been returned. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
19. Hi there. I've been considering an idea for a while. It seems to me that the valley has alot of potential as a geocaching destination, but there doesn't seem to be all that many geocachers in the area. Any ideas how we can get the word out and possibly get more people involved around here? Does anyone from any other area have advice on how to proceed regarding this? Maybe we could have a pub night for cachers in the valley and come up with a few ideas. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
20. I really like two things the most about geocaching. First is getting to see places you didn't know about, and second is the sense of anticipation when you're on your way to a cache. Will I be able to find it? What's going to be in there? Who's been here before me? Will the cache site be what I imagined it to be? I like the idea of going off to do something knowing that the outcome is not certain. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.

22. I was thinking the same thing. It would be cool to have a pub night. Trade stories and such. I think it would also be an opportunity to swap ideas on how to make geocaching more well known in this area. I'd be very interested in attending. Ask not for whom the cache waits....It waits for thee.
23. I know what you mean. I think it's the cache placer's responsabilty to re-evaluate and change the difficulty rating if the need arises. It makes things easier on everybody.
24. I have to admit that there have been a few times when I have traded down at a cache. (Just being honest!) But usually I will trade up or at least even. I also tend to remember the times that I've undertraded and try to compensate when I hide a new cache. Consequently, I don't mind too much if I see people trading down at my caches. I find part of the fun of geocaching is the giving to others. If I need to maintain my cache and sweeten it a bit from time to time, that's ok with me.
25. quote:Originally posted by GOT GPS?:_Things that Garmin could do with the Gecko 101:_ They can put in Alarm clock features. They can give it Stopwatch features. They can bundle a family pack of 4 units in a small box for $200. Give them away free with a $500 order. Any other ideas??? Ya know, I really don't get the hostility that some people have toward the geko 101. It get's talked about as a "toy" but is just as accurate as other handhelds without WAAS. Maybe it's just not "serious" enough. I don't need to kid myself that I'm a "serious" geocacher by buying something that costs way too much and has a ton of features I don't need. My kids can use it without alot of fuss(they are all under 10), it's tough and inexpensive.Alot of people on these boards complain that the 101 doesn't have a pc link. THEN DON'T BUY ONE! But if you only use it to find a few geocaches in a day, downloading from your pc is silly and more trouble than it's worth. The geko is small enough to stuff into my pocket, tough enough to fall 12 feet onto solid rock without so much as a scratch (I would know!), and usually gets me within 15 ft of a cache. Garmin has decided to try to simplify GPS and make it accessible to all, instead of trying to cozy up to techie snobs.(a mistake I bet Apple computers wish they hadn't made!) That is definately a good thing. You may look down on the geko and sneer, but maybe you are basing your feelings of self worth on your choice of GPS too much.(WINK) Anyways, if it's not too much "beneath" you, maybe you should try a geko before you criticize them. It's not all things to all people, but is enough for what many people need. I can afford any handheld unit out there, I chose to buy the geko and use the hundreds of bucks I saved for more important things. I guess I run the risk of never being taken seriously as a geocacher *sigh* Something I have to learn to live with I guess..... -------------------------------------------------- http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=srch&s=5726007311&result_detail=3&x_as=&findw=&f=&sis=&dt=&author_name=Geoffrey&sort_order=2&action=simplesearch&search=Search http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=srch&s=5726007311&u=5206051431 http://members.aol.com/geoffr524/myhomepage/howto.html
