  1. After looking at the logo again it reminds me of a thwarted cacher stomping around in the underbrush swearing and screaming in frustration. "@#$@@%#^^%^%'N CACHE! WHAT KINDA BOZO HIDES A 1-1 IN A FIELD OF BRAMBLES AND FALLEN TREES? I'M GONNA EMAIL THAT GUY AS SOON AS I GET HOME! " "Oh......there it is. Right in front of my eyes....."
  2. Actually, I think he has halitosis.....the lines are coming from his mouth. Breath so bad you can see it, even when it's not cold out. The guy caches so much he can't even stop to brush his teeth. Enough to scorch the paint off an ammo can. Phew!
  3. If you could do that, that would be excellent. I certainly value any thoughts or ideas you might have on how to plan and conduct this event. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for responding. I would hope that area cachers would place a few caches on the way to the lake. I don't mind doing it myself but it would help provide variety if other cachers hid some too. If you would like to get together to place some, (any cacher who reads this) I would look forward to that. If you know anyone who has an interest in caching invite them along. A CITO event would make a good first impression. If we can get local area businesses to become aware of what we are doing and contribute, that would be fantastic. A kids cache machine is a good idea. Make it more like an easter egg hunt. Lots of little objects hidden close together, but far enough apart to make a GPS useful. I'm going to contact the appropriate gov't offices and let them know what we are planning to do and ask if they could contribute to the event, and if we might be permitted to hang some signage that would indicate what we had done there. I have considered letting the local paper know about it. I am conflicted about this. Any thoughts? Ideas? Please let other cachers know about this. This should be a great event. Thanks.
  5. I've wanted to have a Cito event at Foley Lake for some time now. I feel CITO day would be the right time for it. How about caching in the morning around Chilliwack, then head up to Foley Lake(GCG0K8), finding caches along the way. Do some clean up, have a BBQ, maybe a draw for prizes. If anyone has some ideas on how to proceed, please post them here. If you have anything you would like to donate as a prize, that would be much appreciated. If you would like to attend, please post here. Thanks, all.
  6. So what's the status of the site? I tried to access through a forum topic reply link and when I hit the close window button I had about a hundred empty windows pop up and lock my computer. When I restart I can go anywhere and do anything until I want until I try to use an email link to bcgeocaching, then it happens again. What's going on here? Has the site been attacked?
  7. Yeah, don't ever turn your back on Old Faithful.
  8. I'm having severe problems tonight. Trying to log cache finds and it's taken me 2 hrs to do 4. Every other website on my favourites list loads and works as fast as lightning. What's going on?
  9. I think this is a sad comment on how some people know no sense of perspective or can view problems in a realistic light. Anyone who gets THAT wound up over a GEOCACHING dispute is undoubtedly unbalanced in some way. Subigo, I suggest, and I'm not being sarcastic here, that you see your doctor. I'm annoyed by you, but I also feel concern for your health . I know whereof I speak.....
  10. I don't think Disney would be willing to pay a whole lot for GC.com. Since Disney could never own the idea of caching, patent the posting of cache coordinates, or own the caches themselves (which are the substance of geocaching) they would find thier potential for profit limited. There is merchandising, of course, but I don't think cachers are generally the type to get sucked in to spending a large amount on that kind of stuff. (more GPS units, hiking gear, ect.. not wearable advertising) I think Disney would study the idea but would come to the conclusion that there are too many faucets of this hobby that would never be under thier control. Geocachers and thier caches ARE the substance of geocaching.
  11. I suggest you go to your doctor and obtain medication. Either that or go to a real dictatorship and learn what it's all about.......
  12. TG means "TechnoGeek" and OF means "outdoors freak" So what are your proportions? As for me, I think tech is cool, but it's the idea of spending a whole day outside in a new place that gets my motor running. I don't need an alarm to get up in the morning of a cache hunt and am so eager to go I don't want to have breakfast. I want to get going so badly that I have to try and be careful not to leave something vital behind. Others I know have their pulse quicken at the thought of a new GPS or taking a laptop on their caching trip. They get excited about all the new software and go on and on about it. It's all good and we all get something positive out of this great hobby. But the question is..... What is your TG/OF ratio? I'd say that mine is 20% TG, 80% OF. How about you?
  13. I guess I'm not the only one who thought that! I MUST be addicted! You know you are addicted when while out on a "date" away from the kids with your wife, as you drive by a local electronics store, you say, " Let's go look at DVDs. I want to buy you a DVD." Just so you have an excuse to go in and "casually" stroll by the GPS and palm computer displays.
  14. Have you ever done something thoughtless and had pure luck pull your bacon out of the fire? Whew! It wouldn't have been fun! Lucky Duck! Share your stories if you dare!
  15. if you know what caches you are going to do, you could always click on the cache page map which will send you to mapquest. Once there, get the map to display the way you want it and then click on "send to PDA" This way you can use avantgo to sync a map to your palm. You could even make up several maps at different levels of zoom. You can even get directions and sync them to your palm with avantgo
  16. It will work, but you may have trouble getting and keeping a sat lock because the 75 is an 8 channel sequential receiver. That is, it looks for and gets data from sats one at a time, rather than all at once like a parallel receiver. Trees and obstructions will cause you problems. But with patience it will help you find caches.
  17. I'm not a finder......Just ask my wife! Hon, where's my socks/keys/wallet/GPS/ect/ect...... "you can go out and find tupperware all day but you always lose your keys!" Actually, I HATE searching for things, except for geocaches!
  18. Hang in there. It may seem unfair that an experienced cacher is grabbing up FTFs and finding caches easier than you, but don't worry. Once you do some more caches you will begin to develop subtle skills that will make all the difference. You will get better at perceiving signs of where a cache is hidden. You will learn to search patiently and notice thing you wouldn't have before. I got a lesson not too long ago about how much I had learned when I took a newbie out caching. Of the half dozen caches we did he had trouble with all but one of them.(even though none of them were over 2 for difficulty) I had no trouble with any of them, and spent much of the time patiently waiting for him even when I knew where the cache was. Give it time, you'll catch on, and be thrilled when you get your first FTF.
  19. Well it seems to be a topic on many cachers minds, judging by the number of posts to this thread in just a couple of days. All the same, thanks for stopping by to whine about our whining about locationless caches. Your input is appreciated.
  20. I was in a local used goods store when I spotted a virtually new pair of columbia copper river hiking boots. They were so unused the logo on the insole was like new.(It wore off after only a couple wearings by me.) Since they were only $12.99 CDN I thought I couldn't lose...... They've worked out great. There's alot of slippery rocks and roots around here but I've always felt secure with these boots. They've taken a while to break in but now that they are they're very comfortable. Nice and waterproof, too. I can't complain......
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall ever saying that I don't care what anybody else thinks. I apologize for misquoting.
  22. Should there be? No one breaks any rules by logging locationless caches. You seem to be taking this pretty seriously for someone who "doesn't give a rat's a** about what anyone else thinks." My original post was about how when I did a few locationless caches it "felt" like padding numbers and that they seemed to feel less "legitimate" But nowhere did I say they WERE padding or DID lack legitimacy. I as merely asking if anyone else had experienced this sensation when doing locationless caches for the first time. No accusations were made or aspersions cast in the original post. As for me, I don't "feel bad" about doing some locationless caches.I simply said they weren't to my taste, that's all.
  23. I agree with this. My original post was more about how one feels about these kinds of caches in regards to one's self, not judging others on it. The site should be like it is. The way things are now, locationless caches are in fact counted as caches. No problem. If I feel like locationless caches are not my kinda thing, I just won't go out of my way to do them. On the other hand, I saw a personal profile a couple days ago where the cacher had almost all locationless and virtual finds. Hey, whatever turns a person's crank. If it brings them enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment, good for them. As for them being "legitimate" cachers, I would ask, what is "legitimate"? I mean, it's not like there are any stakes to be played for or anything. The point is to find enjoyment and a diversion from the stresses of life. I don't really even care much if some people DO cheat. Maybe they get a charge out of breaking the rules because it's one of the few places they could do that without facing major consequences. Do what makes you feel happy and don't worry what others think.
