  1. Hi Guys, I've been offline with some personal problems for a while, but I am back online now. Thanks for getting the ball rolling again, I'm thirsty too. The Toby Jug location sounds good! I will put the weight of the Pub Bug behind Tuesday, July 8th. If everyone agrees we should post it to the Pub Bug page and the YAPN page (if that's OK with C-A). CryptoBlue
  2. I may be dating myself, but Jethro Bodine was doin' his 'gazintas' in the '60s, long before Foxworthy realized he was a Redneck. I think that a lot of Jeff's jokes are based on steroetypes we learned from "The Beverley Hillbillies", "Petticoat Junction", and "Green Acres".
  3. You can watch that segment online at New everyday uses for GPS

CryptoBlue Would all the satellites around the Earth appear as a single point or could you discriminate between at least 3? If so the GPSarr would work. Wonder where it would say you were? I assume for every point on the earth defined by a constellation , there would be a coresponding node outside the envelope. Is this right or did my wife put loco weed in my salad again? I think that Mars would be out of the question. The moon might work - you would need a more sensitive antenna/receiver since the signal would be weak and interference from the sun would be unchecked by an atmosphere. The earth is a disk only a couple of degrees in diameter when seen from the moon. The GPS satellites have an orbit diameter of about 53,000 km so the furthest separation as seen from the moon will be 8 degrees. So the GPS satellites would not have very much separation - the error would be high. Of course it would not work at all on the dark side of the moon.
  5. quote:Originally posted by Oh! Bandeirante:the moon OK, perhaps just a wee bit expensive for a regular size cache but..... quote:Originally posted by Jennifer & Dean:a cache.... I want to make one on Mars -Jen Well Geo means earth - and our beloved GPSr's would not work out there. But if you could convince someone to put up a constellation of satellites around the moon and Mars then you have invented LunaCaching which would use LPS (the Luna Positioning System) and MarsCaching which would use MPS (the Mars Positioning System). Now we just have to convince Garmin to reprogram our GPSr's for the new systems and to space harden them too. Will Tupperware withstand the rigours of space? And can you burp a Tupperware container down to a vacuum? How do you keep Tupperware from blowing away in a Mars 300 MPH dust storm? I do believe that there are enough satellites around Mars to relay radio signals so that a Mars space vehicle is never out of touch with earth. We would only be asking for 5 times as many satellites. 6. I took BigNick's advice and uploaded a .LOC files to a cache page (in this case in a log entry) as an image and when clicked on, it opens a new browser window where it normally displays a picture but it displays an error instead - Click on the words: (not an image) And it will upload the file to EasyGPS - from there you download to your GPS as usual. Keep on cachin', CryptoBlue
  7. I would like to see an option like the check box for "also download nearest placenames" which might be labeled "also download extra user coords". Then we could get the parking coords and scenic lookouts, etc. How about it Groundspeak? Keep on cachin', CryptoBlue
  8. I think this is a great idea. I've always wondered who the other Geocachers were. It would be great to meet the people behind the names (and the occasional self picture on an angle). I try to avoid entering coords manually - it would be nice to download an EasyGPS .LOC file containing the coords of the Ice Breaker Caches a couple of days before the picnic. Keep on cachin', CryptoBlue

Its a cheap mechanical switch available at most computer places... Lots of people use them for when they have multiple printers on one machine... Should work with GPS. Duh...That didn't even cross my mind!! That's better than my idea...and cheaper. Chip Or just use a 6 foot serial cable from your computer to your desktop. Just plug in the appropriate device as you need it.
