  1. Thank you for another fun race! We love reading about all of the places that our trackables went to.

Sorry for the delay in posting the winners. I have been very busy and it is going to take a little time to figure out the winners. Looks like we had some dipping going on and early logs. I need to be careful how I add the miles to be sure I keep things on an even playing field. I'll add a few more prizes to the race and I am sure everyone will be pleased with the results.

Daffy Duck was supposed to fly around the world with Santa on x-mas eve and record the miles on the odometer's of each car. Instead he decided to help Santa deliver toys (Daffy Duck Dolls)to all the children.

As soon as I finish recording the results I will send out adoption notices so everyone can change the mission of your racer.

    To be continued....................... :anicute:

  2. What do you like most about challenge caches?

The Challenge caches that we go after have a specific goal or theme. You need certain caches in order to fulfill the qualifications.

What do you not like about challenge caches?

Having problems getting Challenges approved by reviewers that have voiced their anti-challenges opinions.

What would you like to see changed about challenge caches?

I would like to see Challenges separated from Puzzle/Mystery caches. Challenge caches should have its own icon making them easier to find.

If you could describe your favorite challenge cache type, what would it be?

My wife and I love completing any All Four Grid Challenges (Fizzy Challenges, Jasmer Challenges, Find a Cache on all 366 Days of the Year, Find a Cache Placed on all 366 Days of the Year).

What types of challenge caches do you avoid?

Challenges that require a lot of work/time/gas to qualify for but the D/T is set too low. For example if the challenge is to find a cache for all 81 different D/T ratings then I would expect a D/T rating of 5/5 rather than 1.5/1.5.

  3. My wife & I are compiling a Bookmarked List of certain challenges for all fifty states plus Washington DC. Any help will be appreciated. We are wanting Fizzy Challenges (Well Rounded Geocacher), Jasmer Challenge, Finds on all 365(366) Days of the Year and Finds on all 365(366) Placed Dates of the Year.

You can check out our Bookmarked List to see if we are missing any from your own challenge caches or from your part of the United Sates. Fizzy/Jasmer/365 (366) Days/Placed Dates

    Thanks for any help,

    Jay

  4. My wife & I enjoy the road trips that we go on hunting for certain caches.

It gets us outside and hiking. We are in our 50's and we have a blast climbing mountains, hills and trees.

We get an adrenaline rush when we find a cache that others have had problems finding.

We've found a geocache in all 254 counties in Texas and all 77 counties in Oklahoma.

Currently we are working on getting a geocache in every county in Kansas and Tennessee.

Not too many folks can say that they've been in every county in Texas (and other states).

  5. But I certainly wouldn't mind finding useable items other than the typical worthless trinkets and toys most caches contain.

I'm not saying the assumptions were wrong, just offering a different view to what could be considered an 'Adult' cache.

Here in West Texas we have lots of cactus so my wife & I place tweezers in various caches that are near cacti country.

  6. Are there currently any Travel Bug & Travel Tag Exchange Missions???? There are a few holiday missions for geocoins but how about our beloved tags? I was reminded that they are not usually considered"collectible" but I bet there are some Inactivated tags in our inventory waiting for a special mission. You know - those cute tags we found on sale or those duplicates we bought because they were just so cool and have their own unique icon. :)

Anyone interested in receiving a new tag from a secret geocacher along with a postcard from their part of the world AND in return, you send one to someone else? Reply with your comments, thoughts & ideas. Cache on!

It does sound like a great idea and also a pleasant surprise in the mailbox.

  7. Start by looking at Shellfish's lists

    Shellfish Challenge Lists

Shellfish's List is where I first got started with compiling my own Bookmarked List of Challenges. My wife & I actively cache in four different states so I have Notifications set up to notify me of any newly published Mystery Caches in these four states and then I look for the word "challenge" and add it to my Bookmarked Lists.

  8. sure you can. While on the "Navigate to Geocache" page hit the flag up on top. Enter the coords and hit "done","done" again, you are now navigating to the new coords.

If you update your file before you finish its going to go back to the original coords though.

Thanks! I can't believe i never noticed that XD

My wife & I use this feature before setting out for a hike in the woods so that we can get back to our vehicle. It ain't fun being lost in the woods....forgeting which paths we were just on, etc.

  9. I submitted a suggestion to Groundspeak, and one of their suggestions was to get a sense as to what others in the geocaching community think.

First, I like the ? icon and all the cache types contained within its umbrella. However, with all the caches that are listed under that icon, it becomes time consuming to find and/or weed out caches.

My suggestion was to keep puzzles and the unknown cache container under the ? icon, but to create a new icon, or revive the Challenge icon, for those caches that are challenges listed under the ? icon, e.g. the myriad of A.B.C. challenges, busy icon type challenges, etc. I thoroughly enjoy doing both, but when I choose only the ? caches to appear on a map, I still have to spend a lot of time differentiating which ? caches are puzzles for me to solve and which ? caches are challenges, typically listed at the posted coordinates but require certain steps be completed prior to logging a find. Sometimes I am looking for one and not the other, and by separating them into their own icon categories, it would eliminate a lot of time having to decipher what type of ? cache we see displayed on the map.

Please politely share your opinions regarding this topic.

My wife & I love doing challenges and have asked Groundspeak about the same thing and have gotten the same response. I don't see any changes happening soon but it will not stop us from creating and maintaining our own bookmarked list of challenges in the states that we frequently visit or want to visit in the future. I have lists of challenges in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Tennesee, lists of Fizzy Challenges, Well-Rounded Cachers and Jasmer challenges in many states, and a list of the top ten oldest caches in each state.

  10. Wow - thank you. Now I just need to sit and wait for the email.........

I have a personal Email account and a separate Email account for just geocaching. The one for just geocaching has a certain ring tone and when it goes off my wife & I are like Pavlov's Dog, drooling with excitement for another chance of getting a FTF.

  11. Just curious how often people get looked at funny for walking around all over looking and searching around & in things most people wouldn't.

Let's see...... We've been stopped and questioned by one university security officer, three police officers, two border patrol officers and two highway patrol officers. I generally start off the conversation with, "Have you ever heard of Geocaching?". Most have heard of it and they can see from our iPhone geocaching app that we are in fact geocaching.

(edited to correct spelling error) I hate it when that happens.......

  12. Hi, I have 2 TBs that need moving on, the trouble is one has a mission and I can't find a suitable cache in my area apart from one of my own hides, is it acceptable to put it in my cache? Thanks x

Yes, you can click on Write Note and leave a message that you're dropping off a trackable. My wife & I do this all this time after we come back from road trips.

  13. We've had a few trackables that just want to travel. We've taken several road trips where we are passing through three or four states so we will dip (clicked on Visited button) those trackables in one cache per state then drop them off when we reach our destination. They get the mileage plus different states visits.

  14. We have eight out of fifty trackables that are missing. We are currently doing Proxies on those eight so that they can continue on. We enjoy reading where all the trackables go and reading the comments of geocacher far and wide.
