  1. There are so many caches in and around Sydney, and poor old overworked me can only get to a fraction. I wonder if anyone has any recommendations for their favourites? Mine are as follows (so far): 1. The Final Cut 2. The Maze 3. Between the Tunnels 4. Speelo 5. Us and Them I'm including Blue Mountains and equivalent distances as they make good day trips. And what caches are the hardest to get to? As a physical challenge that is. We have a special interest in this as we just planted "Colonic Irrigation", not for the faint-hearted. I don't know of any caches which are like this (4 day hike) but if you do - let me know! Blocko.
  2. I know its all been gone through before, but here's my two cents. 1) I'm from Sydney where there are tons of caches and I don't think I'll see them all in my lifetime 2) I'd like to be able easily see which caches were highly regarded by other cachers. 3) Rating caches is a good idea. 4) I wouldn't want to put off first-timers with a bad rating would be my only concern, but I personally would be tempted to give a first-timer a couple more stars for effort anyway. An award system would be nicer maybe, but also prone to croneyism, more complex, and less workable. Why not just a "Rate It When You Log It" system - so simple, so obvious, so useful, so why not? I know, I know, many people have reasons why not. Personally I think the benefits outweigh the risks. Blocko (& his 2c)

    GPS Setup

Rax, We found your cache "Wide Beach" and an excellent cache it was too. It just occurred to us that if your GPS was set on the wrong datum it might explain why you were a bit mystified at our cache "Major Look". You are still the only person to log a visit there - so its unclaimed! The datum is a mathematical model of the Earth's surface which the GPS unit uses to give you lat/long coordinates. There are about as many datums (data?) as there are countries, but the one generally used for geocaching is WGS-84 (World Geodetic Survey 1984). I don't know your reciever, but there will almost certainly be a menu or submenu which will allow you to change it. On mine it is Main Menu / Setup / Units / Map Datum, which gives you a drop-down menu of various datums. Good luck, and let me know if you have trouble. Yours, Blocko.
  7. Having scoured the internet for GPS units, I bit the bullet & purchased my eTrex Vista from Johnny Appleseed. I have since called them for some support. On both counts (the unit & the support) I have been well satisfied. No problems. Just what I wanted / expected. I have not for one second regretted spending my hard-earned on my GPS unit. Everyone should have one. Blocko
