  1. Jawohl! Ich bin halb Deutsch, mein Mutter ist aus Deutschland (Pommern). Aber ich kaufe nur Amerikanische Sachen. edit: mein Deutsch is a little rusty, and probably still so
  2. Allow me to plug my own topic - surf here: Outdoor Stuff for Geocaching Good luck!
  3. It'll take some drilling, but you should be able to find recent weather via the National Weather Service by clicking on the map and drilling away. Each NWS station seem to have a slightly different format.
  4. Very esoteric, but I figured it out with the wonderful tools of the internet. Its a little out of the way, but a slight detour on the way to the "mountain" could find me there.
  5. Geocaching is an inherently outdoor activity. As such, you need outdoor stuff. Where do you get your outdoor stuff? Why do you get your outdoor stuff there? Is it the service or the price? Or something else? Is it a local store, regional chain, or national chain? Do you shop from a catalog? Do you shop from the internet? Do you use ebay? What store would you recommend to someone visiting from out of town? REI is a store that shows up often in these posts - its national. I've posted less than nice things about REI just because I think they're a little too Gucci these days. I've been a member since 1973 and I've seen changes. But, as pointed out in these threads, REI will take back stuff for just about any reason. They pay a 10% dividend on your purchases at the end of the year (for members). I still buy stuff there. I like a local store in Seattle called Outdoor & More - great deals, close-outs, and name-brand stuff. There's a regional chain in the northwest called G. I. Joes that I like because there's one conveniently located nearby. Aside from geocaching, they have a great fishing dept. I still buy my pink Buzz Bombs at Wal-Mart, though. There's also good 'ol Ed's Surplus when you need a pair of rubber boots or an o.d. green wool sweater. Let's hear about your favorite places to get outdoor stuff and why. edit: added links
  6. That is just too mature. hehehehe ... you are right. But how many times do you get the chance to spell "bock, bock, bock" in a sentence? Also, it sounded better than, "nanny, nanny, boo, boo". Yeh, I can sympathize with your dilemma. That would have been a tough choice for me, too.
  7. I had printed out a couple on the waterfront to do during an afternoon at city park and the beach. The boys were just having too much fun launching driftwood into the outgoing tide to interrupt that activity. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Maybe tomorrow.
  8. Sparky - I'm down with that. Let's all go out geocaching and revel in the fact that there is a place called America where we can speak freely and debate issues. But this is the place where we talk about geocaching. Let's make it so. P.S. - I do reserve the right to respond to off-topic threads at my own risk
  9. And some of us have not studied history. Pol Pot and Saddam owed much of their rise to power from United States policies. Ultimately it was the Vietnamese who dealt the major blow to Pol Pot. Its hard to compare the threats posed by the industrial might of Nazi Germany to Saddam's barely out of the third world Iraq.
  10. I would assume everyone in the world would support the removal of this brutal murderer from power....with the exception of a few thousand of his loyal Baathist butchers and a legion of peacenicks and appeasers who were content to sit by and watch the torture chambers and mass graves filled with hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens, whose only "crime" might have been to say something that this guy didn't like. Yes, of course, and this is why we went there in the first place. Last time I looked, the smoking gun was missing a mushroom cloud.
  11. Old geocachers never die, they just get stuck and walk away ...
  12. The child should be at least 6 months old before being placed in a back pack. Looks like you're about there, though.
  13. I would agree with others in this thread who say that geocaching and birding fall into the broad category of "outdoor activity." They are similar in that some folks who are into birding keep track of the number of species they have encountered and they call it a "life list." This is similar to tracking the number of cache finds. You can slice it down any way you want; for example: into the number of bird species or number of caches per day. Therefore, there is a competitive aspect to both. I always have my binoculars with me wherever I go, including while I cache, to view birds and other wildlife. That's the great thing about caching, you can combine it with other outdoor activities like birding. And remember, its "birding" not "bird watching."
  14. Seriously, I'll look for a cache or two. Many options. I've got a multi- I want to find in a nearby park that I can almost walk to from the house. Skagit River bald eagles are calling and there must be a few caches nearby. I'm skiing tonight and may be too sore for anything this weekend, except reading the forums. If Sax hasn't taken down his Xmas lights, this could be a good weekend for it Just suggesting
  15. I'm going to finish this big a** burrito I'm eating then spend the whole weekend reading the forums.
  16. Did they still hand you a copy of Watchtower and Awake?
  17. Costco's Kirkland-brand Trail Mix rules.
  18. I'll bet your cache count will never exceed your diaper change count.
  19. I would consider the act of physically touching the cache as de facto retrieval. I had a situation where I had found a cache but had absolutely nothing to write with, and it was a micro. I had emailed the cache owner with a description of the unique features of the cache and the logbook. Permission was granted for the find, and amicably so. So the first question is a personal; can you look at yourself in the mirror and say "yes, by golly, I touched it, I found it and its a find," or do you say "dang, I forgot the blinking blow torch again, I'm an abject failure." The next question is to the cache owner for permission to log as a find. In most cases, I think the answer would be yes.
  20. Also rumored to be the location of WMD er ... and some geocaches
  21. My caching assistants. The family on the way to Victoria for a wedding and caching. edit: another photo op
