  1. Happy to hear you were successful! Welcome to the addiction;)
  2. My android: setting....connections....location....high accuracy.
  3. Have you tried to use an app on your phone yet? I use to have a galaxy s3 and it worked fine for geocaching. I hope you find something that works for you....geocaching is a lot of fun
  4. Found it In view of no logs here for two years, have to assume it to be missing after giving the area a good search. Also I see the owner has not been active since 2010 so I replaced this hide as per the description. Co-ords maybe slightly off. Hope this is good with the owner. Signed log. TFTC. By someone who has over 7500 finds
  5. I accidentally had a ftf this summer...searching for it I was all annoyed because I thought something had gone wrong when loading my gps with caches, and there were no previous logs to see. It finally dawned on me when we found the cache and the log book was blank. Doh
  6. Yes as soon as it's published someone will come looking.....possibly as quickly as a few minutes.
  7. Very creative and really sweet! I'd hate to eat it lol.
  8. As a cache owner, I'm not sure I would appreciate someone doing my job for me. Doing the maintenance on my cache is a part of my job that I enjoy and signed up for when I placed it. Sounds like you need more of your own caches to maintain, they would probably be good ones to find since you would maintain them well. Although I do appreciate your enthusiasm, it's the cache owners job and to interfere with that or encourage cache owners to NOT do their own maintenance is probably not the best direction to go. Just one viewpoint for you to consider. Good luck and happy caching
  9. Hi and welcome! There are so many different gps's and a huge price range. It's tough to pick. I started with a basic Magellan explorist gc model and used that for 5 years...then upgraded to the Garmin oregon 600. I'm pretty happy with it. A lot more bells and whistles. It all really depends on what you want in a gps.
  10. iPad version 8.3 English Month/day/year Hi I was having this problem yesterday, seems to work ok today though. No error message.
  11. Happy Canada day to all my fellow Canadian cachers! Anyone using this holiday for some caching? I am not but hoping to get a bit in this weekend at the lake.
  12. Interesting, it's not listed on its own in the glossary, just as part of another one. No wonder you couldn't find it. (Unless I'm blind... which is also a possibility)
  13. A campground we go to every summer had geocaching kits you could borrow for a day, they had 5 or 6 preloaded destinations on them around the campground...very similar to what you are describing. I found the unit very simple to use, I believe they were etrex 10's.
  14. I found peace of mind on the way to a few hiking caches, does that count?
  15. This an almost find = did not find Found it: 'Got there and looked for quite a bit Was about to replace cache when we finally came across it upside down but quite close to posted cooridinates.' Original found close to coordinates....huh who woulda thought.
  16. Got mine today, the address and postal code were correct....and it found me in a smallish town in Saskatchewan Canada.... Now Manny is soon to be on his way! Gotta love free stuff
  17. I took a writing stick with me on a short 'i really need to exercise more' run this morning before work, found a cache along the way. Just wanted to contribute
  18. I am trying to figure out how to delete these lab caches from my count on my profile, it bugs me that it doesn't jive with the 'my finds' PQ, and i want it to. I can't even find anywhere on my profile that says I found any lab caches, so how do I delete them? They aren't listed on my 'caches found' list or anywhere else that I can see. the' mygeocachingprofile' profile says my 85 finds have no duplicate logs, so I can only assume the 4 that are missing are lab caches. (I remember making up a fun cache for my daughter to find on valentines day, and practiced it a few times before I had her find it. As far as I can figure this is what is screwing up my count. I don't have very many finds, and I've looked through the entire list several times, and see no duplicates or anything that is even remotely indicative of a lab cache. Any suggestions?
  19. I have never in my life done anything like this, but decided to take on the challenge. So far so good, finished the inner piece with the screws, I have pretty much no tools so I'm just using a dremel, elbow grease and a lot of praying . Such a wonderful project, can't wait to finish it, thanks so much for posting such easily readable plans!!!
  20. Sorry, you've never paid for the iPhone app, so you're going to have to pay for it. From a recent similar topic: Now that I think about it, I don't think there even is an official Geocaching app for Blackberry, so I have no idea what you may have been using before. I've been using a Trimble geocaching app on my phone for a few years, I believe it's listed directly on the geocaching website...so I assume it's 'official' ?
  21. We made a wrong....very wrong... turn today and got stuck in some mud.....and found out we somehow ended up on private farm land. The owner was understandably upset...bordering on threatening...we felt stupid, but the worst part was the 300 dollar tow truck bill. ( the farmer wouldn't help us lol ). All in all our fault and I blush in embarrassment thinking about it...but hey....we had ourselves an adventure. And stuff happens. Coulda been much worse I suppose. Didn't stop us from continuing on our caching journey though.
  22. A friend of mine sent me a link about it probably 7-8 years ago and I mentioned it to my husband (at the time) he kinda poo poed it and wasn't interested.....forward about 2 years and he says to me.....u heard about this geocaching thing? We should try it. So since it was his idea....lol.....we gave it a try, and I really enjoyed it. Then we split up....(not because of this lol)..I always wanted to do more but had no idea about gps units or how to use them, then found the app for my phone and that started our mom/daughter caching time....my daughter and I now own a dedicated gps super simple to use and we are looking forward to a summer full of adventure! And although this may have been asked a million times before, it's the first time I've seen it asked.....so thanks for the thread! ( yes a newbie to these forums)
