  1. Except swag isn't an acronym. It's an actual word.
  2. Yes, by segregating them into separate GPX files in the POI folder, and creating icons with the same file name (but different extension). For example: Traditional.gpx Traditional.bmp Mystery.gpx Mystery.bmp Multi.gpx multi.bmp
  3. Assuming you're using Garmin maps, you simply install the disc, then open MapSource. Use the map select tool to choose the map segments you want to load. Then click the Send to GPS icon, and make sure the Maps box is checked. Make sure your GPS is plugged into the USB port, and click the go-ahead button. Maps will load, but it's a bit slow, because your GPS only has USB 1.1. For faster loading, use an adapter and plug the card into your PC. You'll need to select the card from the drop-down.
  4. If I found a memory card as a FTF, I'd either toss it, or let someone else take it. No way would I ever put it in any device I own. Cards are cheap. I just got some 4GB Class 6(!) name-brand cards for $5 a piece from Woot! Is it worth saving a few dollars to end up with a key-logger (or worse) surreptitiously installed on your laptop? That's why this is such a horribly bad idea.
  5. You can post a NA log, if you actually looked for the cache and didn't find it (i.e., don't be an armchair cache cop), and there is a continuous string of DNFs well out of proportion to the Difficulty level. An exception to the latter would be if you know it's gone, because you've found it before, or otherwise have concrete evidence.
  6. Another way is to create a new Boolean value called browser.display.enable_marquee in the about:config file and set it to false. I'm not sure that lets you see all the marquee text at once. Don't have a ready example to test it on, though.
  7. If you're installing it on a waterproof devise (handheld GPS, not a smartphone), fill a sink with water, and install it under water. It's pretty much impossible to get air bubbles that way. If you can't do that, watch the video a few times. And be sure to get your fingers really wet with the liquid
  8. I've disabled the marquee function on my browser, because it's so annoying. For Firefox, find the userContent.css file in your chrome directory. Add the following to the file: /* Stop those <marquee> tags! */ marquee { -moz-binding : none !important; display : block; height : auto !important; } Instead of the scrolling, you'll see all the message at once. The file should include examples on how to turn off blinking, and other hacks. Enjoy!
  9. You get a nice shiny container that sticks out like a sore thumb. You need to paint the outside with a flat, non-reflective paint.
  10. If it's something that will peel off clean, without leaving a residue or taking paint with it, then it may be allowed. Check with your local reviewer.
  11. And if I did want to place an actual bomb at a school, I'd look for a school that has an approved cache on the premises. That why they shouldn't be near schools, period.
  12. There will be a learning curve. Despite the unit's shape, the 62 software is NOT based on the 60 series software.
  13. Are you aware of just how few characters you're actually allowed to enter into a note? I don't see the problem you describe as really being a concern.
  14. Not quite. The <groundspeak:personalNote /> field would not be there yet as to not break poorly written clients. What I'm saying is that once the personalNote field is added, the appending to longDescription should be removed. It makes it difficult for software to not get two copies of the note. They'd have to text search the longDescription and remove it. Text searching is a slow operation. No they wouldn't HAVE to remove it. You do it because you choose to, not because you have to.
  15. Have the notification email sent to [your-10-digit phone number]@mms.uscc.net
  16. I have nüMaps for my 60CSx. Works fine. Only difficulty is that they are hyper-security conscious. Even though you're just downloading the maps to your PC, you'll need to have the GPS unit physically plugged in to the PC for several of the steps. Once they're on your PC, you can select which segments to upload to the unit's card.
  17. There is actually a workable solution that does not require the above. The user note can be appended to the long description field with a NOTES: string attached; it would then be visible in all systems that can display the long description. Not a good long-term solution, but as a patch until third-party applications start to understand a new field, it would be usable today. I agree. That's how Additional Waypoints are handled.
  18. Not during the review process, but that doesn't mean they won't at some other time. They're cachers too. So one deceives their reviewer at their own peril.
  19. It's not hard getting waypoints into the unit. Here's simplest method, which does not require any 3rd party software. Turn on unit and connect it via USB to your PC. Start the MapSource program that came on the disk with your unit. You should use the option under "Help" in the menu to ensure you're using the latest version. If you're not, download & install it, and return to this point. From the MapSource File menu, open the GPX file (I assume you already know how to request one). Alternately, you can just drag-drop the file in to the Waypoint list box. Click the Send To Device icon (arrow pointing down to GPS unit). A dialog box will appear, and in a few seconds it should recognize your device. Click the button, and the waypoint will be sent to your GPS. That's it. You're done. Go caching.
  20. And increase the amount of text that can be stored x 20. You're now restricted to about 2 average-length sentences.
  21. "Is specialized equipment required?"-question is missing. Now only way for the cache to be rated T5, is if it requires overnight stay. Without overnight stay checked, it's only possible to get T4.75. Specialized Equipment now has its own attribute, so the 5-star workaround is no longer needed. Now, a T5 really means what it should have meant all along.
  22. I've found auto-calibrate to keep my 60CSx accurate to within 10' of altitude. If you really need better than that, you will need to calibrate it every day.
  23. But if you don't archive it, it would be a good idea to post a note indicating you're not going to use that location. That way, a reviewer won't think it's a project in progress. Delete the note if you decide to reuse the cache.
