  1. Alchemist, thanks for finding this link. As for why the Power Co is promoting Geocaching? Same reason they are promoting Chili Peppers and Wildflowers. Us Texans are interested in these things and it makes us feel good about our Power company if they share these articles with us. June's issues has an article on Texas peaches.
  2. My local power company has a positive article on Geocaching as a way to encourage tourism to small towns. Unfortunately the webside does not yet have the July edition on line. Texas Co-op Power. The gist of the article is that geocaches set up by local chambers of commerce can bring tourists to areas that might go unnoticed and bring a few more dollars into an area. One of the people quoted states,"...geocaching as a tourism strategy may be ahead of its time, but she believes any town that dismisses it is 'missing the boat.' " I scanned the article into a PDF, but don't have anyway to post it here. If anyone has a suggestion, I'll be glad to do what I can to make this available. kfcthecolonel.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.
  4. I am interested in getting feed back from anyone who has tried Geocaching with Youth Groups such as Boy, Girl or Cub Scouts, Indian Guides or Princesses etc. What worked, what didn't any pitfalls to avoid. Is this just a bad idea?
  5. Thanks for the info on the Cachemate Converter, I'll need to check that out. I'm about to start a new thread on Scouts and Geocaching and I'd like your input. Give me a minute and take a look. kfcthecolonel
  6. I just dusted off an old Palm Vx and got it set up for Geocaching and I can't imagine Caching without it after just 1 week. Check out http://65.34.18.106/print.php?content.15 for a great article to get you started. You will need Cachemate for Palm and GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) but I think the time I spent getting this set up will save me so much time in the field. kfcthecolonel
  7. Expressing our Hopes for our fitness, Praise for one another, Boasting of our accomplishments and discussion on whether or not Chicks Dig Fat Guys. All valid reasons to post here.
  8. I was an obese 335 on Feb 15th and started to eat healthy, then I started to try to get active and THEN I DISCOVERED GEOCACHING. I'm down to 299 and love my new outdoor, active hobby. I am in withdrawals this weekend since I could not go caching yesterday. My long term goal (1-3 lbs per week, so it's gonna take a while) is to get down to a trim 199. So you'll be seeing less of me on the GC Trails but I'll be out there more and more.
  9. Thanks for the additional info. I'll check it out.
  10. Thanks, I'll not stress about it. kfc
  11. Hello All, I am brand new and loving my new hobby. I read on the Resources page about Red Monkeys and how they can be tracked like dollar bills etc. I found a Red Monkey in a Cache with the word Rastamon printed on it. I went to the web site http://www.monkeycache.com/ and the monkeys they are tracking all have a numeric code that did not match my monkey. I checked the previous logs to see if there was any info about who left the monkey so I could check with them, but alas, the log had no reference to whom left the Rastamon Monkey. The cache where I picked up the monkey was N 30° 29.865 W 097° 50.254. I want to be a responsible Geocacher, and if someone is tracking this monkey I want to make sure I do my part. Any suggestions. Thanks KFCTHECOLONEL
