  1. My old hard drive failed but the compter guy was able to save some stuff, including most of my GSAK stuff. How do I recover this data and get it all reloaded into my GSAK? Also, I need instructions on setting my "Home" again. And finally, I crushed my GPSr in my trunk and had to get a new screen. July was a very expensive month for me. It now appear the memory card is blank. How do I see what is still on this card. Magellan Meridian Color. Thank for all of your support. I would be lost with out you (gender non-specific) guys. -Cole

  3. So, uhmmmm.... I cracked the #$%$#^ out of my screen. What are the odds of me being able to get it fixed? The GPSr seems to work fine, as I was able to track down two caches after the accident. I have not yet contacted Magellan/Thales, as I wanted to hear from you folks. I have (had?) a Magellan Meridian Color. Please advise as to what luck people have had with screen repairs. I really hope I'm not buying a new GPSr, this one is only 3 months old! Thanks all, Cole
  4. I have Mobipocket Reader PC installed on my PC and have my pocket queuries going to it, but I am unable to get them into my Palm (Sony Clie). How the !#$%!#$ do I get Mobi installed on my Palm? Thanks -Cole
  5. I guess my post wasn't clear enough - I mean when you go to a specific cache page on www.geocaching.com, what datum are the top coordinates using? -cchase
  6. What is the default map datum for the coordinates on a given cache page? -cchase
  7. I once stumbled on a meth-lab while hiking, before I began geocaching. I cleared out fast and then called in the SO. I was very happy I didn't have my kids with me on this one. I've also stumbled into some somewhat uncertain areas and now carry in most non-urban areas. Though I now have a concealed permit, I wear a thigh holster when hiking/caching. The thigh holster keeps it off my hip and away from the wasitbelt of my pack. -Cole
  8. How do I get the lon and lat of a location that I find using the Mapquest address feature? I want to see what caches are near the hotel were I will be staying. Also, is there is a better way to get this lon and lat for known addresses, please advise. Thanks -Cole
  9. Embra, you last post did it. I had to screw up my home significantly (moved 800 mis in 1 second) and then correct it. Now all is good. Thanks a ton everyone, this is a great hobby and great community. -Cole
  10. I have made the following change to my Home: Home, N42 14.282, W121 46.657 And am still getting 17.2 miles for distance on this cache. N42° 14.273 W121° 46.703 (WGS84) I can see it from my front yard and my handheld has it about 250' away. Why? WHY????? FOR GOD"S SAKE WHY?????? Thanks again for any and all help. -Cole
  11. Since the two are different, what should I have for my "Location" in GSAK if my home is at: 42 degrees 14.282N 121 deg 46.657W
  12. Help with Home???? In GSAK my home is: Home, 42.14282, -121.46657 This Geo has the following coordinates: N 42° 14.273 W 121° 46.703 It is the park at the end of my street and we have found it. The problem is that GSAK says that it is 17.2mi from Home, which the lower taskbar indicates is my centre point. Please advise. Thanks all, we are loving this and can't wait to work out all the bugs
  13. SUCCESS!!!! I reinstalled GSAK and it works just fine now. Thanks all!!!!!! Now time for some GEO-Easter. -Cole

  15. I am unable to get my handheld to communicate with GSAK. I know it is hooked up fine, because it transfers data to and from my street map software. I have restarted both my computer and handheld and I am getting the following error when trying to transfer waypoints from the handheld to GSAK: Error sending waypoints: MAGPROTO: no data received from GPS The error I receive when attempting to transmit waypoints to the handheld is much longer. Let me know if you need to know what that error is. More details: I'm using a Magellan Meridian Color. Here is what I'm attempting, please advise if this is incorrect. In GSAK I go to "GPS" and select "Send waypoints..." Then a new window pops up. I select the number of waypoints I wish to send and then hit "Send". A window appears saying "Generating GPS file." then a window saying "Sending waypoints". It lasts about 30 seconds and then the error comes up. Thanks again. -Cole
