  1. This is why I have just about swore off Travel Bugs, I have had a couple of bugs that just go "poof" someone picks them up and off they go never to be seen or heard from again. I have seen people who have like 5 or 6 finds that pick up a bug and then you never see it again, now not saying that everyone who has that number of finds does that, BUT I know for a fact that some do. Nothing more irratating than that and then after it rolls along a few months emailing and things then to find out that their GC.com account is inactive GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Good Luck with getting your bug back on track. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  2. "Even a blind hog finds an acorn on occasion" I say this alot after looking for ALOT longer than I should have for something that was so easy to find when I think about it.
  3. Or maybe just the ability to hide the info from others if you wanted to. Kinda like the buddies list mentioned in a different thread. You can select who can see what you have found and things like that.
  4. Wouldn't be a bad idea as long as you get to decide who does and doesn't watch you, there are a few people out in the woods who I just don't rightly want watching me
  5. Got mine ordered, bought, and paid for now when do I get'em lol Thanks again, I'll be watching the mail box in a few weeks Cya on the trails, Rusty
  6. I used to live down that way and did a fair amount of caching in NE Texas. I still have a couple of active virtuals down in that neck of the woods. Is BadBart and the Nugget Hunters still around? I used to talk to them online some they were pretty nice folks. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  7. Ok, first of all thanks to Jamie for starting this thread way back when. I have been looking at replacing my old Meridian Platinum for awhile now, but haven't really found what I want. I have been thinking about the explorist series, but there are several things holding me back all of my concerns have been addressed in this thread, or at least I think they have. Now not to hijack this thread, but if you had a perfectly good working Platinum would you shelve it for a 500 or 600 explorist? Thanks for any input, I am leaning towards staying put. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  8. Ok, I missed out on the coin, if anyone has an extra they would part with for a dachshund owner ( I have 3 miniatures) I would greatly appreciate it. I don't have much if anything worth trading but would try to work something out if anyone would part with one. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  9. Sent an email, if there are any coins left would LOVE to be put on the waiting list.
  10. Just ordered mine this morning, my Grandpa always wanted to go to Alaska, but never did, so I wanted to purchase a couple of these coins in tribute to him. Cya on the trails, Rusty Charleston, AR
  11. Sounds like fun, wouldn't mind playing a fun game myself. Cya on the trails, Rusty Charleston, Arkansas
  12. What exactly is the point of "virtual logging?" I thought it was fun at one time to "count coup" on Travel bugs, or coins, but now I just stick to what I have found personally. Seems a lot more fun that way.
  13. I have dealt with Magellan repeatedly for both warranty and non-warranty repairs. Service on these issues has been hit and miss. The first time I had my platinum repaired because I dropped it, still under warranty cost me like 20 bucks shipping plus they sent me a car mount. Second time the platinum went nuts the screen went out, cost me $100 as it was non-warranty but they sent me a power cable for my truck which I think retails on the site for like $60. The last time I dealt with them, I was trying to get my sister's sport trak repaired the unit gives an error message everytime it comes on. I emailed them repeatedly, told them what the unit was doing and how long I (well, my sister) had the unit, they sent me back an email saying that they could reprogram it FOR FREE. I thought cool, I am going to be out shipping and she will get it fixed. They told me someone would be emailing me a RMA # After a couple of weeks of no number, and several emails, I decided to call them. I got a guy who BARELY spoke English, or at least this good ole boy from Arkansas had a hard time understanding, anyway he proceeded to tell me that it would cost like $50 or so to get it repaired. This is after I had been told it would be reprogramed for free. Needless to say the Sport Trak is still in my desk drawer non-functioning. I threatened to never buy their product again, but for the most part I have had good luck, course I am not going to get another unit till my platinum lays down, we have been through alot together Cya on the trails, Rusty
  14. First off Happy Birthday, I can't think of a better way to spend a birthday than hiking in the woods finding caches or not finding them. The point is getting outside and enjoying. As for finding caches without a GPSr. Found 3 today without mine WOOHOO Hey even a blind hog finds an acorn on occasion, LoL
  15. I have found over the years that I have been playing the game that things have changed at least the way I look at things have. I have always traded as fair as I could, however I am sure there have been times when I was a little on the uneven side one way or the other. It has gotten to the point now where about all I actually trade are WG$1s or Travel Bugs, otherwise I just sign the log and hit the trail. I prefer to hike a mile and a half in the woods and DNF (which I log everytime I have one simply because if someone else goes to look they need to know) than to drive around town finding 20 traM laW lampost micros. If you want to look for those that is all well and good and fine, and I have found a few like that, but its not really my thing. I hiked 2 miles to a cache I had already found yesterday just to show a friend the waterfall at the end of the trail. As for counting coup on Travel Bugs or geocoins, I personally think if you are going to move it along and help on its mission fine otherwise exactly what is the point of doing this? Just to get an icon on your page? So what? I did this once a couple of years back and thought it was the coolest thing in the world, however now I guess I am just old school I say if you find it and move it great, otherwise leave it be. I enjoy meeting other geocachers on the trail, though I haven't met many. I have recently made a new geocaching buddy and we enjoy going every chance we get, it is almost like I have a renewed interest in geocaching now (and she is single in case any of you single guys are interested) I have found that I enjoy caching more when I am on a trip, as others in this thread have said, there are caches really close to my house that I have no Earthly desire to go find, not saying I won't ever find them, just saying at this moment in time I could care less, BUT you tell me we are going 200 miles today to find some caches I would be ready before you were I betcha To each, their own I don't agree with things some cachers do, hey I am sure not everyone agrees with my methods either, one thing about it, no one has ever complained about any of my caches that I have hidden (knock on wood) When it comes to me hiding caches I much prefer ammo cans in the woods to Wal Mart micros I think I said that already but it is worth repeating. Bottom line would be as long as you are out in the world getting exercise that is probably the best thing. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  16. I thought that those were both pretty funny, and, if they support an agenda at all, it would be for "bad" micros (eg: dumpster hide behind Walmart) for the numbers crowd, not micros in general. You mean micro traM laW caches are LAME? Man there are a LOT of them popping up around here, I was wondering if they were really good hides or just a numbers thing, course I think I probably knew all along they were LAME numbers only caches, but then that is just my opinion, I guess if someone wants to go to Wal Mart and look for a cache it is their right, but I say it is just STUPID.
  17. I wonder if this is some of the reason for this moron's behavior. This is directly from his profile: ** Biography ** I am an average sort, just celebrated 58th year of nothing spectaculiar There is something wrong with a person who believes this, anyway....... I have had about the same experience with Travel Bugs lately, I THANKFULLY rescued my Darth Vader TB that went to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom, he is sitting on my shelf and I look at him most every day, but I have had about 4 or 5 bugs that just go "poof" and when you email the people who have them they either NEVER respond, the Email is non-deliverable, or they send a message back saying they like it and they are keeping it, that doesn't do anything but PI$$ me off. People like this are just IDIOTS.
  18. I personally use the blue and yellow batteries from Dollar General, cheap and I personally think they last as long as energizers or duracells. Course the way I work it is if I am in the truck driving to and from caches I have my GPSr plugged into a external power source, only taking it off the power source to go find the cache. Works pretty good for me, I take a couple of 500+ mile trips a year, use DG batteries and that external source and go through MAYBE 8/10 batteries in a trip, plus I usually have at least a couple left when I get home.
  19. Since I have recently started caching with a friend on at least a semi regular basis I am also now interested in the concept of team hides, finds, etc...... We have talked about hiding a cache and also of letting a TB loose that we both owned. I think the idea of a pop-up where you can log the find and then check off the team members who were there to find the cache. I also thought of a "team account" but then as has been said here that brings up the issue of multiple finds logs when it is truely only 1 real find. I might end up doing that though, at least we could keep track of the caches we have found together plus log our own finds also. Just my .02 on the issue. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  20. '99 Dodge Ram if I am driving or a '05 Jeep Liberty of my friend drives.
  21. Funny how I take offense to this post, and don't find it very NMAD funny, but then again thats just me.
  22. I used to own a Coin Cache, but it got toasted by Muggles. So now I am in the process of putting out another one, but trying to decide if it should be a members only cache or not.
  23. Funny I have never seen a waterlogged decon box, maybe us folks down South just know how to close them LoL Anyway thanks for the advice I do have to say the containers you propose do look kinda interesting.
  24. Though I do appreciate everything you and everyone in the military does for us here in our country, I think I will probably look for a cheaper place, lol. but once again thanks to you and everyone either active duty or veteran for everything you have done. Cya on the trails, Rusty
  25. Ok, I have been looking for decon boxes to buy online, can anyone tell me where the cheapest place to get them is?
