  1. I have to second BruceS's post. (is that grammatically correct?) (or should it be BruceS'?) The only one that I think could be interesting would be the vending machine idea - only if it were vending machines that have "odd" items. I mentioned previously about a vending machine that had worms, shrimp and fishing tackle. But the problem here would be to define "odd". A side note: We are seeing a lot of activity coming from our German Waymarkers lately. Glad to see it. I used to think that only people in the U.S. were active in Waymarking...
  2. I assumed he was referring to Challenge Geocaches, not Challenges, since that's what he called them. I hope so, since that's what I responded to! We shall see. I've been wrong before. But I think he meant Challenges. I recall he made reference to them in previous messages.
  3. Good. It didn't work. Any suggestions?
  4. A while back, I changed my "signature" in forums. However it still shows the old one. Any suggestions on how to correct this, or am I doomed to be known for my snide remark: "It's Just A Game" forever? This is how I did it: Profile - Account Details - Edit - Profile Details - Forum Signature - Save Changes. If it says "It's just a game" at the bottom of this message it didn't work. If it says otherwise, it did and I will again look like a fool.
  5. If you are referring to Challenges which GC rolled out and then killed off in just a short time... I liked them, but to me they were much like Waymarks. There was no physical log to sign, just take a photo and give a little information about where you were and what you saw. Does this sound familiar? Much like a WAYMARK? I think I logged about 100 of these while they were around. IMHO, I think it was Groundspeak's way of seeing what geocachers thought about Waymarking. Most of the ones that I saw/logged did not have the detail that a waymark does. I think you mentioned that you put a lot of research into the ones that you posted. Bummer, especially since GS did away with them so quickly. You might be able to take some of your old Challenges and make them into waymarks - if you haven't all ready.
  6. Nacogdoches, TX - Quite a few brick roads in this town. And yes, you drive on them. The link below doesn't talk about the brick roads, there are just pictures of them. Nacogdoches TX I've seen quite a few in my travels, but I really can't remember the names. Most of them are in small towns in the downtown area. As for how you would waymark it, I would have to say that it would be one entry per town. Unless there are a LOT of brick paved roads.
  7. I (heart) Geocaching Roses are red. Ammo cans are green… So it turns out we're not so good at poetry. Instead, Geocaching Labs is beta testing a new way to show some love through geocaching. Premium Members can create a customized, temporary Lab Cache for one special person. Since this is a test of a potential new feature, we'd love to hear your feedback while sitting back and admiring your creativity. You can learn more about this Geocaching Labs beta test on The Geocaching Blog. Geocachers get a Valentines Day Treat, Waymarkers get SEATTLE? No sour grapes here, I just wonder why Waymarking doesn't get the attention that Geocaching gets.
  8. There was a topic about it recently: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=307233 I checked out the green house - Home António Silva (No. 2 Street Beato Manuel Rodrigues) I see the initials "AS" in the facade at the top, is there a DATE any place on the buiding? If it has a date try: Dated Buildings Another thought is Frieze Art. You would need to run this idea by someone in the category to see if it really qualifies. If nothing else, I found it on WikiMedia Common. Does that fit into the Wiki Category? As for the birds, I'm not finding a whole lot to help you there.
  9. All I can come up with about chickens is KFC. Yeah, been there and Waymarked the orginal location. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7A98_Birthplace_of_Kentuky_Fried_Chicken_Corbin_KY I would be willing to help if enough are interested if YOU or SOMEONE else were interested in creating a category. I know quite much about keeping chickens. I'd really like to continue this discussion... But I'm CHICKEN!
  10. MPH - I think YOU are being a nuisance... But seriously, the only category I can think of is Aviaries and you said that you have been told that it doesn't fit there. As for the tiled buildings... IF there were more than one color tile, they could be a Mosaic Ok, maybe not. Keep asking, maybe someone will answer.
  11. Maybe I've missed something here. If you look at groups you will see there are 1881 groups. If you look at categories you will see there are only 1072 categories. Having said that, does that mean there are 809 category-less groups? Trivial Fact for the Moment brought to you by the Letter W and the Number 3.
  12. Let me see if I can TRY to add something useful to this thread. A few months ago, I came up with what I thought would be a pretty easy to pass category. Ice Vending Machines. Unfortunately since it was my first attempt at such a task, I failed to understand the process. Create a group. Gather at least two other like minded individuals. Write up your category description. Have your group review and make changes if necessary. Step 1. Post the category information (link to page if you know how) in Recruiting and Category Proposal. Step 2a. Allow sufficient time for comments. Step 2b. Listen to what is being posted by others. Step 2c. Take ALL comments as being HELPFUL NOT CRITICIZING. Step 3a. Based on the comments, edit and repost. Step 3b. Listen to what is being posted by others. Step 3c. If the comments are negative, ask for suggestions/help. Step 4. If MOST of the comments are negative, maybe it isn't such a good idea. Should you decide to put it to PEER REVIEW: Be prepared for rejection. Never personally attack someone for their comment as to a NAY VOTE. Remember that users can vote anonymously, you can not track those. Recently there was a category proposed for Little Caesars Pizza Restaurants. Leader joined in 2006. He has 2682 Waymarks and 1032 Visits. Officer 1 joined 2005. He has 2359 Waymarks and 1539 Visits. Officer 2 joined 2012. He has 457 Waymarks and 1177 Visits. Officer 3 joined 2011. He has 1701 Waymarks and 2050 Visits. Based on these statistics, you would think that these Waymarkers would KNOW what makes a good category. IT FAILED PEER REVIEW. Most of those who reply to proposed categories are the ones who care about this activity. Just because a message show being read 500 times, does not mean that it was READ. I preview EVERY new message that comes across this forum. If it isn't something that I care about, it will still show as being read. Don't get me wrong. I think your idea had merit. The reasons posted by others as to why it should not become a new category were valid. The whole purpose of PEER REVIEW is for Waymarkers as a whole to judge if the category will be approved. This process is better than if it were left up a select few to decide. Before you say that is the case here, please remember that you have no way of tracking ANONYMOUS votes. I voted ANONYMOUSLY on this issue, I voted NAY. I hope this sheds some light on things, from the view of someone who recently had a category rejected. Please take a look at the following message threads. These are from my failed attempt at a new category. The comments might not be the same, but you can see from the beginning that had I listened to the group I would not have put the category into Peer Review. Initial Message Defensive Message
  13. And we can always use an extra hand around here. BruceS and Checkmark (the two that I know and bug nonstop) do a great job, but a few more "visible" resources would be wonderful.
  14. Group Vote in simple terms: When one officer can't decide if the waymark should be approved. It goes to a vote by all the officers. It got stuck because it didn't get released. (Don't ask me why) As for Waywizard, I believe him/her to be a Waymarking/Geocaching Lackey. They have superhuman powers above those of a normal Waymarker. There are a few of those here. They can be helpful provided you don't feed them after midnight.
  15. It might be just a bit off topic, but I found a vending machine at a lake that sold FISH BAIT. YEP - Worms, Shrimp and other fishing supplies.
  16. If your photo is a typical example, these can be found in just about every grocery store across the US. Called Gumball Machines. Gumball Machine With that said, I see that you are trying to get something going. This looks like the THIRD new category you are involved with in the past few days. (1-Euro Stores, and Public Drinking Fountains being the other two). I commend that. With almost 1,200 categories sometimes I wonder IF there is anything left out there. But I am currently working on a few - maybe the will become categories, maybe not. Part of the fun is the research that you have to put into the category. Don't ever stop trying to come up with something new, and don't be discouraged if your suggestion does not pan out. Lately we've seen some categories voted down that would have been easily approved five years ago. The idea of what is a good Category has changed over time. Commercial waymarks like restaurants and large retail stores are no longer good categories. Historical categories are always a winner, but most of these have all ready been created. Just my thoughts. I started this message about three hours ago and had to walk away for a while. I see others have all ready commented...
  17. Here are a few more: Virginia Historical Markers Leader: 06/25/13 Officer: 04/20/13 Officer: 1/11/14 (previous 11/16/13, logged in at my request) I have expressed interest in this group, have been nominated to officer. Neither of the two other officers have logged in or responded to my email requests. One is active on GC.com, the other's email address is no longer valid. (direct email contact "bounced") Alaska Historical Markers Leader: 06/11/13 Officer: 05/05/13 Officer: 10/29/13 I don't have anything pending here, but I think Lat34North might. North Dakota Historical Markers Leader: 04/23/13 Officer: 11/25/11 (really?) Officer: 06/11/13 There are a few others in the Historical Marker section that are looking like they are being ignored. I can't pass judgement because I don't know what is pending. I applaud all those of you who are single handedly running your groups. I see there are a lot of you out there.
  18. Update... Everyone is STILL AWOL Leader last logged in: 6/11/13 Officer1: 11/14/13 Officer2: 5/5/13
  19. I just tried to renew my membership from the Waymarking site and got this same error. Went to Geocaching.com and had no problem renewing membership. Hmmm.
  20. For the past few days I have tried to edit my account details and got the following error message. Anyone else having this problem? This happens using Chrome Version 32.0.1700.76 m and Internet Explorer. Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL. <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web> </configuration>
  21. This is really bugging me and I want to see if anyone else sees this. How much time has to pass before a group officer can be considered "no longer interested" in the group? I really wish I could get an answer. 60 Days? 90 Days? 180 Days? Believe it or not, I have come across some groups where the last time anyone from that group logged in was 75 days ago! I'm glad I don't have any pending waymarks in that category. The best one I have found so far (actually the WORST) is 2552 days. Can you say January 2007? Why is this individual still even listed as an officer? The "best" for a group leader is 935 days with out logging in. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of groups which have EXCELLENT leadership. I'm not trying to start a problem, but it's really starting to make me wonder.
  22. My question to you is: Do you mean that you submitted 55 waymarks in one day? That is going to take a while for a reviewer to get through. Something I have had to learn, the hard way. Please be patient, they will get to all of them in due time. I see that 13 were approved today. I see you are new to the Waymarking community. I know you all ready have the information for these sites, I visited your FB page. I suggest that you only post 5 or so at a time. Just my two cents worth...
