  1. I too would love to know th esecret of not loading the disc every time for Mapsend. I am afraid of losing or breaking the disc when I am traveling. Please share! Thanks very much
  2. THis is great! Thanks, I will give this a try!
  3. Is there a way to load a track route,as seen on a map, back onto my PC so i can print it? I am just starting to experiment with the track route feature. I am using the 600 while house hunting in unknown area(Chicago suburbs) and it has worked excellent! Thanks
  4. I recently bought the Explorist 600 for $289 from Harmony computers, based on a tip in this forum about the price. I bought Mapsend Direct and downloaded the extended manual off the internet(a must). I also bought a SD memory card on sale at Best BUY. I spent a couple hours learning the unit and Mapsend and very quickly created a base map of a large area around Bristol TN and went to the Nascar race this past weekend. This unit, my first GPS, worked flawlessly. I "marked" the hotel and also created waypoints/POI's for race shops and the 600 was just invaluable! I highly recommend it based on the ability to connect to a computer, add a memory card, and the rechargable L-IOn batteries.
  5. Hard to beat this deal. I called and got this price by mentioning the promo. I was told that it had to be over the phone, not online. Best price going for 600. Accessories cheaper elsewhere.
  6. I am ready to buy an Explorist 600. I am planning to buy on-line since there is no availability in my area. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good merchant to deal with? I am looking at Tiger GPS, but there are lower prices out there. Any suggestions?
  7. Thanks for the replies. I should have been more specific. I will need to charge a L-Ion battery(3.7 volts) for a digital camera, and also the L-ion battery for the explorist 600(that I do not have yet...not sure of the voltage). I will not have access to a computer, very limited access to electricity(every couple of weeks) and no car charging. I can carry a charging device, to be left in camp. I was thinking the car charger might be a good start and then rig a device to a portable battery pack from there. Sounds like the Belkin unit might be a good start. Where can I get one of those?
  8. Folks, I am need of plans to build a remote charger that could use a regular battery to charge a lithium ion battery in the field. I seem to remember some chatter on that but I can not find it in the past files. Can anyone help? Thanks
  9. I am about to buy my first GPS unit and software. Which would be the best one to buy first, DirectRoute or TOPO 3D? I want to try geocaching and also I travel a lot and want to use this unit for directions? Do I need both or can one work until I can afford the other?
  10. Magellan Meridian Color or Explorist 500/600? I was ready to buy the Meridian Color model but in reading up on the new Explorist series it seems to have more options. The Explorist saya it is better in sunlight. Any one have any thoughts?

  12. Does the Meridian color work well for auto use as well as geocaching?
  13. I am looking at a Magellan Meridian Color unit. Does anyone have any experience with this one?
