  1. All understood. I do have 550t that obviously works with the system but I would also like to use the iphone. As I said I am aware of the Wahoo ANT that does work with available app but am more interested in if someone has got the Garmin ANT+ talking to the chirps. It seems to me that Garmin would sell a few more Chirps and ANT+ if they did. I don't think it would impact their sales of GPS's, in fact I think it would probably be financially beneficial for them. 2. Hi. I have been looking around but cannot get a definitive answer. If I buy a Garmin ANT+ for my Iphone 4 is there an app available that will allow me to use it to track and program Garmin Chirps? I am aware of other ANT devices that do work and have applications that run on the Iphone. But I am interested to know if the Garmin ANT+ will. Many thanks... Osi.
  3. Sorrry forgot to add cache was "SoWeGa Cachers Christmas Party".
  4. Hi. Just had a message that a Cache has been permanently archived, (after Christmas party). There appeared to be one of my trackable items in it. Can someone let me know what happens to items after cache is archived? Geosibisa.
  5. Hi, I live in the UK. I have been interested in geocaching a long time but have only minor experience. I was wondering if there were any tips about how to prepare for a holiday abroad and incorporating Geocaching into it. I have an Oregon 550T, that I plan to take with me, also a small notebook PC. I may not have access to internet although it is available on the island, so was wondering how to prepare things so I dont miss out on anything. I am going to Mauritius for a couple of weeks. I have looked at caches there. There seems to be a good scattering of them on the Island. Do I need to download them to my PC/GPS? Can I plan a route? Should I print maps out? Just got no idea where to start. Thanks in advance. P.S. I also have Android Smart Phone and a Kindle with 3G if that helps.
  6. Thanks for help. All sorted. Wife will be happy now...lol Osi
  7. Hi. I apologise if this is such a basic question but I have to ask as an old noobie. I have come aross many multiple stage cache's. I just wondered what the best way was to prepare my 550 with the relevant information so I can travel easily from stage to stage, without having to type in new co-ordinates at each stage. Do I need to prepare for the outing before I start or is there a quick way to programme the GPS that I do not know about? Wife was getting fed up with me having to stop and programme in next coodinates all the time...(smiles). This is a typical Cache I am talking about. "Funchal Walkabout". Thanks all. Osi
  8. By the look of the lack of detail I suggest something else.
  9. What a load of rubbish. Takes ages to download, Ages to upload, Costs £21.00 In UK. Has no definition, no contrast.... Using Oregon 550. My advice, save your money and use Google for free. I wonder if they will refund me? Would not mind the clunky download if it was worth waiting for, but definition starts to fail at about the height of an orbiting space shuttle! Much dissapointed My own fault. should have asked first.......
  10. Thats what everyone says. But i got the 450t and i also downloaded some of the free "high quality" maps, and to be honest i haven't found any free ones that i like better than what came on it. The 450t doesn't come with street maps; it comes with 100K topo maps. If he wants street maps he will still have to buy/download them for the Oregon 450t. I agree that the 450 is the best choice for the money. all sorted thanks. Got the 550. Downoaded all the maps I wanted for free. Quite happy. Now need to learn how to drive it.
  11. Thanks both got one now... woo woooo
  12. Hi. Anybody know the wereabouts of a downloadable map of Madeira, that isn't going to break the bank, for Garmin Oregon? Only ones I can find that look decent are "Bit Totrrents". Dont like using that... Thanks.. Osi
  13. onve you upload it go to "access my field notes" and your list will be there. you will still have to click the log cache on each one it doesn't do it automaticly. Still alot easier. Thanks my friend you have answered my question. i was expecting it to update automatically. As you say its much easier anyway. Oh and thanks for replying to my other posting regarding maps. As you can see I bought the 550 instead of the 450. Managed to get some OSM free maps loaded. Just learning to drive it now... Lots to play with..Happy hunting.. osi
  14. Hi. Been playing with my new toy today Oregon 550, software is 3.70. Managed to get caches into device but having trouble updating geocache.com with my finds. I have read quite a lot about it but just wondered what to expect, am I doing anything wrong? Marked cache as found on 550. 550 displays it as a found cache. "open box". Come back and upload cachefound.txt file as instructed but it doesn't seem to change any detail in Geocache.com log. Am I expecting too much?
  15. all sorted. I apologise. was me. I forgot to click a day for it to run.!! So Sorry.
  16. Made a route. ran the querie. 83 found. ... Must be doing it wrong... Didnt want to keep running it in case it was running but slow...hmmpf
  17. Hi anybody else having trouble with queries not arriveng? been waiting hour now?
  18. My respectfull reply would be. 1. Let it make its own way along the route. Half the fun is seeing what route it takes. 2. If you take it to place in a cache and it doesn't fit then keep it until you find one it does fit in. No need to dip it. 3. A simple email to let the owner know your intentions is all it needs. No need to dip it! But what do I know......
  19. Being a totally new player and looking at all this from a noobies point of view, Isn't dipping unethical? From all that I have read about the game, and thats not much, I had assumed, rightly or wrongly that TB's were used to track something that was placed by one person and moved on by another. It seems pointless to drive your own TB around the country and claim the travel mileage for that TB. Now a sticker on your car or bike is a different matter. Perhaps if I ask somebody to sign a log for me I can claim I have found a cache and add it to my collection....totally pointless. It is not my intention to upset people with this observation, and I fully understand if I have said something out of turn. My only defense is that I am learning and old....Osi
  20. Hi. Off to Madeira soon would like to download caches there to pc and possibly go paperless if my new Garmin arrives.. Most are written in Portugese. Anybody got a quick efficient way to translate them so I can take an English version with m. (May not be easy to access Internet where I am going)?
  21. Decided on an Oregon 450..Just want to ask should i get the "T" or forget about UK maps. From what I can find out all of the OS maps are available free? Is that correct?
  22. Hi, Is there a way to get the OS maps onto a TomTom 910? Preferably without spending shedloads..
  23. Want. Paperless, OS maps, accurate, good battery life, readable at all times. Dont leave UK too often but occasionally go to Europe and sometimes India, Sri Lanka, Madeira. Would like to be able to use it for Geocaching there too. Budget about max £250. Any reccomendations please? Osi
  24. Hi. I am trying to get my head around integrating GSAK. First of all is there a "Dummies Guide" to integrating Geocache.com with GSAK, or is it a matter of just playing with it until it does what I want? Secondly. I succeded in creating a list of caches around a given area and have transferred that list into GSAK ok. I am slowly finding some caches as I drive around and am updating on Geocache.com as i find them. I wondered if there is a way to quickly update GSAK from Geocache.com with the found details instead of manually ticking them as found a second time in GSAK.. Perhaps I should just sit and play with the dadgum thing some more and figure it out..lol. Thanks Osi
  25. Sorted. Thanks guys.. Netbook comes away with me with all details of local cache's .. But no maps...good enough... Now to get maps saved as well....that would be nice... working on it...
