  1. Wow, Mr Forester, you know your stuff!! Many thanks for the info. Next time i'm out caching I'll give the WAAS a go, esp when I get around to placing my next hidden cache.
  2. Ok, I'm joining this conversation a bit late on but I have a question. I have a fair idea how WAAS works but have not yet managed to get a lock on one - probably because i've been too impatient. My question is - does the accuracy only improve when you are actually locked onto a satalite or does it remain after you turn GPS off and on again the next time you use it? (without re-locking)
  3. It has been discussed often that, especially for container caches, that you must find the container and sign the logbook. When i said 'no log book' I was referring to virtual caches! Sorry if i didnt explain that bit clearly!
  4. I've only been to one virtual cache and it took some finding! Many have logged it as 'did not find'! I thought part of the idea of this game was to get people out to places they would otherwise not visit. I think if you take the trouble of hunting out a cache it should be given credit for, log book or no log book. Perhaps owners could state that unless a photo of the cacher at the site is emailed to them to prove the visit, their log would be deleted. Most of us have digital cameras, camera phones or scanners these days.
  5. We placed our first hidden cache after about 2 weeks of caching and 12 or so caches found. I'm hoping to place my 1st multi cache soon and have ideas for a puzzle cache. We take placing of caches seriously and make regular visits to the 2 existing sites. Whilst we did wish to get a few finds under our belt for experience, we may have lost interest if we had to clock up a minimum number of finds before hiding a cache. You are always going to get someone who doesnt play the game as it was intended, some people hog travel bugs, some lose them, some dont re-hid caches very well, some people (I've read in forums) even log first to finds without signing the log book! Its a pity that some cache owners may end up giving the sport a bad name when their unattended caches end up as junk but unfortunetly this may well happen with more experienced cachers as well as the inexperienced.
  6. Our first cache swag was a yellow punch ball balloon which the kids played with until it met its end. My sons favourite toys seem to be the ones he gets from caching - we spend fortunes at birthdays & christmas but he prefers the toy Mini Cooper and Brian The Snail (a burger King toy i think!) Hubby has a nodding Mojo Jo Jo on his car dash and I have a nodding Dee Dee on mine (both Cartoon Network freebies and both from different caches)
  7. My 2 caches are in amongst many trees causing GPS's to go haywire and hence the hunt harder, sometimes impossible. I myself dont like to look at the clues or spoilers before I hunt as it sometimes gives too much away. What I was thinking of doing around my caches is hiding a few film pots with 'clues' in. These could inclue 'Try the other side of path' or ' You're within 10 foot' etc. I wouldnt use too many or let them give the game away but hope they'd be an ecouragement. I'd also include mention these pots on the cache side. Before i head out and plant some pots I wondered what others would think of this idea???
  8. Thanks for all your replies. Like i said, i'm just too impatient! I'll sit tight for now, see what happens. Win some lose some, hoefully with a bit more patience, win more than lose!
  9. How long is it acceptable for a cacher to keep a bug before placing it again? We're new to having our own bugs and i admit i'm extremly impatient, but i was wondering what is the norm for a bug to be held between caches? All the bugs we've picked up so far have been moved on ASAP, if we're going to have them more than a week I put this info in the log. At what point would others with more experience become impatient??
