  1. I now have the neprene cover and some strong engineering screen protectors. The firmware is Rev 5.161 Mar 14 2005 If Im not mistaken I think its the same as the other. When I saw they shipped me a new one I was excited that I may have the new version :-(
  2. I just got my 600 back today after sending it back to Magellan to get the screen replaced from where I scratched it. It cost $51 ($46 replacement $5 shipping) They replaced the whole unit. Gave me a brand new one. So Im happy with sustomer service. I still think the lens cover should be made out of lexan but thats beside the point
  3. DONT USE A DREMEL TOOL!!!!! I ruined mine that way. Cost $51 to get it replaced
  4. My radar is wired direct to the fuse box. I have 2 GPS, and cellfone adapters,, sometimes also have the personal DVD player and always carry the 12 V power inverter.
  5. Im going to spring for the $51. I asked them how long it will take and they wrote me back and said 3 to 5 day processing which in real time is about 2 to 3 weeks. Maybe I can live without it for that long. I can always use my kids Geko if I have to go caching. I also ordered the strong protectors and got my Glisson case today
  6. Does anybody beside Magellan replace the plastic screen covers besides Magellan. My cheapskate a** didnt buy a screen protector (12 for $9.95 and BStrong) and of course I put 3 huge gashes in it last weekend. I then thought I would try and polish it out with the dremel tool...mistake #2 and wound uo making it much worse. I could argue that the screens should be made of Lexan which would be more scratch resistant but they are not. Anyway I wrote Magellan and it will cost $51.00 total. $45 for the replacement and $6.00 for shipping and they will replace the whole upper housing. I took the unit apart last night and looked at taking the window out and replacing it with a piece of Lexan but decided against it. So does anyone else do this type of repair that might be cheaper than Magellan?
  7. I like having my POI's seperate because on my other GPS's when I uploaded a new file the old one would be lost. I lost several poi's that I had marked because I would sync my GPS and it woud overwrite them. Now when I upload my geocaching files they are seperate from my POI's
  8. The PC mobile cable is only a power cable. I wouldnt be able to transfer my waypoints. I would like to see a GPS with a beam function similiar to a palm that would allow you to beam waypoints and more from GPS to GPS. Maybe even a camera like a cellfone
  9. Is anyone shipping the Magellan brand explorist USB cables? I just got my windshield mount and want to mount the cable behind my dash. I got the powercable set from pc mobile. The pc mobile cable will work in the up or down position or actually its left or right. One way will show Charging and the other shows external power. My plan is to get the Magelln cable that snaps into the mount and run it behind the plastics and under the dash using a extender cable to the cigarette lighter power adapter.
  10. yep. Power-on and hit the escape key when the Checking Media screen comes on takes you to the Burn in screen. What do all the letters mean TFF THF RTC Real time clock? BF What we got for buying a newly released unit? HFF FIX lock on the bird? NFIX SQS
  11. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=NAVMATE20&cat=CON I dont anything about it. I have bought from comp geeks numerous times in the last year and very rarely have I been disappointed
  12. How does the swivel mount mount to your dash? Does it use sticky back tape or velcro or a big ol' screw? From the picture it looks like it has a thumbscrew on the right side. I assume that just locks the swivel down. I cant decide whether I want that one or the suction cup one.
  13. Heres a log from one of my caches GCNT2E Nice springs! The water is crystal clear. Not sure why there was lingerie hanging near the cache.. hmm.. TNLN Thanks!
  14. Finalay got home to watch... Excellent!!!!
  15. How many stars would the frozen niagra be in geospeak? I have a 5 year old and her feet tend to "go to sleep" on the longer hikes. I would like to see that one but Im unsure about taking her
  16. We are headed to Mammoth Cave area in a few weeks. We went last year the day after Labor day and most of the area attractions closed for the season on Labor Day. I wanted to go to Guntown Mountain. This was also my pre-caching days. We didnt tour Mammoth cave but went to Kentucky Down under. We will go back to this place. It was pretty fun and they had a cave there also, kentucky caverns. Dinosaur world was pretty fun too. Im a sucker for tourist traps
  17. Thanks Clyde. I was looking under File and Export. I guess I should have RTFM
  18. I just got my kid a Geko 201 and was looking for a way to load waypoints into it. I didnt see an option is GSAK. Im not real familiar with Garmin. The only thing I have found to do it was USA Photo Maps but I didnt like the way it loaded the waypoints. I tried EasyGPS but it didnt seem to recognize the GPS.
  19. Thanks Clyde. I havent got to use it yet since Im at work but I have downloaded it to my work PC and looked at it. Im glad you gave an option of either geocaches or normal POI's. If you could just make it so the explorist would take more than 200 geocaches.
  20. I havent got to watch it yet since Im at work and have no speakers. Took only about 1 minute to download
  21. yeah I have tried those. It might work if any of the programs would calibrate at the lower left hand corner. That is where it is off. All the calibraters that I have found just do center, lower right and upper left
  22. My kids Geko will do a projection but my Explorist wont. I still havent decided on a new (or used) PDA. I may go with a Sony since it runs Palm software or a PPC maybe a Dell Axim. I have found some Dells fairly cheap. I like the fact they have a CF card slot and I can use it as a photo viewer also. I still havent counted out the Zaurus and use a Palm emulator. So many choices.
  23. The first was a M105 and the second was a Zire71. I had thought about the Sony. Another possibility is the Sharp Zarus which runs Linux and has a palm emulator.
  24. Will the GPX Sonar project a waypoint? Cachemate will but my eXplorist wont
