Greetings my Spanish friends. I am surprised that there is not a geocache (or an earthcache) hidden here: N43.268097, W1.549786.
Perhaps one can be hidden before October 2020 ;-)

Another variant I've seen is to have the gadget system hold a sealed geocache container. Slipping a log into the gadget system (just a type of camouflage, in a way) is not the same as accessing the geocache container inside and signing its log.
This. Or redesign the door so that paper can't be slipped in.

Wasn't a joke. I was laughing at my own struggles.

Pardon for bringing this up, I feel like I've read about it on the forums before but not able to search it up.
A friend of mine that I got into caching recently visited another country and did a little caching. He did a popular virtual there (among others). The CO deleted his find. Now they're in a struggle where my friend keeps reposting the find and the CO keeps deleting it. I reviewed the situation and my friend appears to have done everything correctly. The CO appears to be quite unreasonable (I haven't contacted that person but saw their communications).
My friend would like to log the find. Does he have any recourse? Anyone have experience navigating this sort of thing?
Was it Ireland or Germany? LOL.

Just about every place we stayed had and had onsen had a clear "no visible tattoo" rule.
I wonder if this has anything to do with history and American sailors?
BTW, I was an American sailor in Japan.

My caches have been found by unattended small children, cache opened and contents and container thrown around. But most often, it's landscapers who either remove the container, or remove an entire tree along with the container.
I contend that if landscapers are finding your cache then you might be doing it wrong. LOL.

After a morning of caching I asked myself ..."Do I need to be carrying some kind of personal protection?"
What brought this to my mind was the area I was in. Sure, urban area but with lot of vacant undeveloped land. I guess you could say on the border of rural / desert.
Had to walk along a dirt "road", past a few houses that may be occupied but could also be abandoned. The 'Deliverance' theme rang through my head and I could imagine a guy plucking a banjo with a shotgun next to his chair. There was a major road a few hundred yards away but ... in worse case... I may not be found for weeks.
I am a lone cacher with no-one Knowing where I'm going.
So... do you carry anything for protection?
If YES, what?
I am just wondering what you have against banjos and shotguns.. ;-)

You don't carry a smartphone with you when you geocache?
I'm so stuck to mine I don't think I'd go caching without it, even if I had my Garmin GPS with me. I consider it a safety device. Even in remote areas. I've seen those movies where the guy is lost in the middle of nowhere but manages to get a signal on a hillside to call for help.
I haven't used my Garmin 62s in years. The maps are outdated, I don't know if I want to deal with the hassle of downloading to it. I do most of my geocaching on the fly now and love the access to updated maps and to up-to-the-minute listings and logs.
I usually take a photo of the cache I find and often things I find interesting along the way. I'd rather not deal with an additional unnecessary camera for snapshots and documenting.
I probably should carry both a smartphone and GPS for safety and backup though.
What I carry or don't carry shouldn't concern you. I realize that many of you like to sensationalize and exaggerate the posts of others just so you have an opportunity to extend threads for days and days but you all know I was referring to the notion of geocaching evolving into game that was predominantly or strictly required cell phone use. There is no doubt that the geo-stalkers here have already seen that my profile contains Wherigo and Adventure Lab finds.

good grief.

No I'm not. I'm talking about QR codes as logs INSIDE caches.
I don't cache with a smartphone. And if i am forced to give up my GPS for smartphone usage, then I will commit geo-cide.

I saw some of your caches while reading through the threads cerebus1 provided earlier. Do any of your multicaches require the movement of something from one of the stages, such as an RFID chip, to the final to open the container? This idea crossed my mind but I'm wondering what the probability would be of the chip being returned to its proper location.
No, never done this. And I am pretty sure I never would either because the chip card would never consistently make it back to its home in my experience. MaNY cachers can't even rehide a cache back in the proper location. To trust them to move the key element of a puzzle back would be asking the impossible.

Has anyone used an Arduino board to create a puzzle cache? I've been studying the web site but would appreciate hearing the pros and cons of such a cache from someone that's actually built one.
I've hidden several caches using Arduinos. But mine are primarily multicaches and not mystery caches.

I don't think hundreds are required.
Without the requirement to show that others qualify for the challenge, it could turn into a "Here's my big accomplishment. I bet no one else can do what I did!"
Yeah, heaven forbid if a challenge was actually challenging.

I love too! Currently I have posted 847 DNFs. In Finland, there are only three geocachers with more DNFs than me.
1,379 DNF's for me as of today. But I am only 99.9% pure.

I am not suggesting anyone leave their trash in the woods, ever. But I am pretty sure that if someone does leave their crap in the woods that it doesn't quite have the impact on the environment that some of you think it does. Let's be real here. By the reasoning ability of the typical person that claims to be an environmentalist, if you really wanted to save the planet, you'd all stop using your phones and shutdown the Groundspeak data center.

Thanks. Looks like it just worked. At least it thanked me for my entry. Hoping I am on the list of possible cachers. :-)

My first Adventure Lab went public a few days ago. Overall I like the idea, or specifically, I like the potential this may have in the future. The only complaint I have of the builder in its current state is that I wish the 1000 character limit was higher. I know the limitation is probably the smartphone screen size but perhaps a paging function would help get past that. Even a bump to 2000 characters would have helped my specific situation.

There's also privacy concerns. ALRs are gone. Earthcaches can't require photos. Virtuals, when brought back in limited numbers, essentially discourage requiring photos of the cacher at GZ with this restriction: "Photos of the geocacher at the location; a face cannot be required in the photo." That last part probably sinks webcams single-handedly or at least kind of defeats the point. It's much easier to have a proxy in a regular photo than a webcam.
I am not arguing for or against new webcams really, even though I believe existing webcams should be made maintainable.
And I know some would use privacy as the excuse. But the way I see it is, logging a webcam in and of itself is 100% optional. In this case, if you want your privacy then don't log the find.

Why do we all feel a need to invent more things that serve no useful purpose? If a TOTT is required but you provide it, rate the difficulty and terrain appropriately and move on.
