  1. I don't know if I'd consider it elitist or not. But even if it were, who cares?? Who said your life had to be fair? Worrying about your feelings should not be considered when making a business decision. One of the reasons why this country is losing its grasp on power in the world...
  2. He DOES have a point, can you honestly imagine walking through the bush to find something like that? Hahah, would be extremely funny on our behalf! Maybe not so for the person involved.... Never the less i love it! No, he doesn't have a point. By accepting his statement, you dismiss my local reviewer as being irresponsible and incompetent. Besides, other than its size, what problem would someone have with it? It violates NO park policy, at least no more than the 40 other caches in the park. There's clearly nothing real about it.. the creature inside cost about $12 at Walmart. How many people have that same thing in their front lawn RIGHT NOW? I am more disappointed that someone who uses their Reviewer credentials here has a problem of staying on topic. Sounds like an abuse of power..
  3. There's already The Geocache Rating System that some people love and other people hate. To each their own. ratethiscache.com
  4. I didn't look closely at the spreadsheet so this must be coming from right field... Are your weigts being used in the traditional way? Much like a weighted average works? I'll have to look at it again.
  5. That looks like a police visit waiting to happen. I hope you have permission and/or it's on private land... Go back to your dark room. Don't need compliments. But especially don't need your dribble.
  6. I wasn't being sarcastic, you took it the wrong way. My point was two-fold. 1 - Diversity is a word that makes my skin crawl. Not because of a dislike for any one group or culture. But diversity is a fact of life and it constantly gets crammed down our throat to make people feel good/bad at the expense of others. Obviously not relevant to your site, it was just a side comment. 2 - The real point was, it seemed to me, however incorrectly, that the weights are something anyone can modify. You use the spreadsheet and then upload your score. Maybe integrate the entire thing within the site and dispense with the spreadsheet idea.
  7. As a fellow geocacher that likes to build geocaching related websites, I understand your passion and the committment to the work you've done. But I have to admit, as soon as I hear the word diversity, I just want to puke. The word's original meaning means nothing and has more or less become a different term altogether. It has nothing to do with leveling the playing field or the balance of people and has everything to do with number manipulation to help people feel good where it may or may not be merited. Until you lock down your weighting system, this will never be an accurate representation of anything. My caching diversity was about 100,000 when I was done. Looks like I'm in the lead (for now).
  8. Knowschad, spoilers below. Don't look... I've built a lot of cool cache containers over the years. Here's the crowning jewel to my Halloween 2008 series Halloween 2008 BONUS: Coughin Up A Lung (GC1H32A). To learn more about it's construction, visit the BLOG at Bart's BLOG.
  9. I've paid a heck of a lot more than $10 for a cache. Just finished up the Minnesota State Park Geocaching History Challenge last month. A cache in each of the 72 state parks, 4 regional caches, and then the state bonus cache. Total milage was in excess of 5500 miles with a calculated cost per cache of about $23, after fuel, lodging, food, boat launch, speeding ticket, etc.
  10. Well of course, but how am I supposed to learn? I lost spell check back in high school, a.k.a. teachers. Auto-correct is another issue. I tell you what, just to keep things honest I'll footnote every word I spelled wrong and had to correct myself. I shouldn't keep making the same mistakes. I know it won't cover all grammar and usage but I sure like knowing when I goofed i before e except after receipt. Too bad Auto-correct doesn't teach the proper use of commas.
  11. Minnesota, the socialist state where almost nothing is allowed, is an example of the opposite of the OPs premise. The Minnesota State Park system used to ban geocaching altogether. This last year, they saw the light and opened it up, with an approval process of course. They even ran a promotion this year to promote geocaching in the state park system, the Minnesota State Park Geocaching History Challenge.
  12. If you followed every rule to the T and followed Leave No Trace to a T, you wouldn't be able to plant any caches at all, period. So stop consulting these forums and go plant your cache using uncommon sense. It'd be a miracle if all of these "permission" hypocrites actually got permission for their own hides.
  13. Coons are excellent swimmers. Might want to rethink your plan. And isn't MN bear country? Grizzlies, black bears or both? Heck, if I have to be careful about them in New Jersey, I imagine you're practically tripping over them out where the real woods are. Grizzlies in MN?? That's a good one. More likely to be eaten by a mountain lion, puma, or whatever your favorite cat name is, even down where Bad_CRC lives. In any event, you ARE hooked and whatever you use for a container I'll come look for it... (but if it's made of glass I'll have to carry it out.)
  14. OMG, it took 15 posts before treehuggers making up lies came out of the woodwork. I am impressed. I've got documented and photographic proof that demonstrates that nailing into a tree isn't going to kill it in most instances. Can you prove that the tree will never die?

  16. I am an advocate of NOT hiding caches on or around electrical equipment. But this one has been very popular in our area.. Oops, pix hosting issue. Can't have dynamic image from my blog.
  17. Stickers on normal sized log books are fine. Cachers who use a sticker and cover two or more positions on a micro sized logbook are... [FILL IN THE BLANK].

  19. My lame attempt at blogging can be found here...
  20. I am not a great writer but have attempted to start a BLOG of my own. I use the FREE .NET BlogEngine. Very nice but then I've never tried any others. Rants, Raves and Ramblings, Usually About Geocaching
  21. I am still trying to figure out why people care if a cache is hidden by someone with a sock puppet account...
  22. Hiya Ad0or! We enjoyed your Utah caches while on our road trip! Now.. Why is it any difference? Well, to me the fast that they are generally paper, tattered and often stuffed into the smallest micro's it just doesn't make sense to leave it to get worse. As for the content, being religious does hit a sour and sometimes offensive note to those of us who do not practice the same beliefs, religions or mythology. I try and keep the swag I leave kid and family friendly. I'm sorry but my kids and I certainly do not find these items enjoyable, amusing, cute, useful or worthy of trades. Also being that they do tend to solicit one belief system, at least the ones I've CITO'd have, they push an agenda. 73' and happy cahcing! J.. In the history of the world, more people have been killed in the name of religion than any other cause. Why can't you just ignore the materials and move on? The mere fact that you're offended and CITO materials such as this proves nothing more than the idea that you're just as closed minded as the idiot that put it there in the first place. And how come threads on this topic never die?

    CAVES?

I have many ideas but saving them all for myself. Besides, its pretty easy to determine where in Minnesota caves would be located. They require one very important geological feature of which can be found on any map.
