  1. As for the original question, I think it sounds like a perfect time to convert some of your muggle freinds into the ranks of geocachers. Since I tell everyone I meet about this hobby (wether they like it or not) I've always been pleasantly suprised at the conversion rate thus far. If your spouse will not go, take a freind. The advice on looking into local geocaching groups is great, scan the logs of caches in your area and email the odd cacher to see if they wish to tackle any together. I cache in alone quite a bit and groups when I can. I enjoy both times equally well. I also go out at night quiet a bit and although it sounds funny, there seem to be less freaks out in the woods at that time(not counting myself).
  2. Check the local laws on stun guns (and mace). In CT, to carry a stun gun (or throwing stars or throwing knives) you need a special "dangerous weapons" permit and training, in addition to the concealed carry permit and training needed to carry a handgun. For the record, following jmbella's wife around in the woods is my idea of a good time too! I smell a virt! Attacked while geocaching, here are the co-ords of the body(as long as it is not yours).
  3. It looks like a vicious beast for sure! My ankles are terrified!
  4. There's this one, Hidden Treasure. Which , I might also add, is an excellent puzzle cache!
  5. I like it. It rhymes. What else rhymes with kitchen? Stichin'?
  6. I like puzzlers, I love putting them out, but they never get hit as often(depending on how impossible they are), so lately I've slanted back to the traditionals for more traffic.
  7. I custom paint all of mine to match the surroundings. lately going with the Zebra thing .
  8. I will be ZERE, unless I'm having a baby that weekend.
  9. It's bloody brilliant! I LOVE caches like that. I'm a softiethough and post more hints on my own, but I LOVE THOSE!
  10. Didn't want to leave the ring in the container at the next waypoint fo rher to find?<grin>.. Great story!
  11. Just dress like a super-hero. Law-enforcement assumes you are simply there (where ever you are) fighting crime. Should you need to hide, the black cowl and cape can make you disappear into the night background. In fact, in the case of geomuggles, it's better to hide. If they have dogs. Bark back. Woof Woof.
  12. I hate it when people flange the delay on their waa waa's. Ohh, and that singer Edie Brickel. Hate her too. And , peopel that hate. I hate 'em.
  13. Who likes Monty Python to boot. All the good ones are taken.
  14. Non-rechargeable Duracel batteries sound better too. In stomp boxes for guitar and other audio gear<grin>.
  15. Thanks gents! I always thought there were a gaggle of geeks there<grin>..
  16. I have misplaced Mine (arg!) and have to pick up another. A buddy of mine noticed that the USB cable for his Canon Digi-cam worked fine in his 60C. So perhaps I can pick a cable up in a camera store instead of shipping one across the country. My question is, what the heck is that USB specification called? It's the little thin jobbie. Not the trapazoid one with the little nubbie guide. (very technical terms here). Also, as an aside www.gpsgeeks.com seems to have disappeared (unless I have the URL wrong).
  17. I was in that boat, I had the Etrex window mount. I finally bought the 60C Bike mount kit, which came with the cradle, that slid into the etrex mount. And I needed the bycycle one anyway. Worked for me.
  18. That! Is bloody exactly what I want! Thanks so much!
  19. When I head out for as caching trip I invariably take 4 extra NiMh AA batteries to pop in the GPS when the juice runs low. For the past 2 years I've been using an elastic band around the molded plasic thingy they were sold in. Said plastic thingy, I'm sad to say, has finaly bit the dust! I was thinking there must be some small sexy waterproof thingy especially made to keep batteries from being strewn all about your pack. Maybe digital camera enthusiasts have already discovered something that fits the bill. What do you store your spare AA's in? Have you discovered a cool small snap case or something of the like? How do you seperate your charged up bats from your out of power ones? (I store the dead ones upside down).
  20. No no no.. Now THIS is a sock puppet.. (Ahh... I still miss Mitsuko)
  21. How come nobody mentioned Markwell yet? Nothing gets the 'It's all been said before here' point across like a good ole' Markwell. Curt, polite, and to the point. (and besides, I like the Calvin and Hobbs avatar)
  22. Halden, missed meeting you at the event. Great turnout, great caches, great pizza! I've yet to log some finds what with the site slowdowns of late. It was great almost meeting everybody, there's a lot of new cachers out there. I was talking to Nozzeltime about the Wednesday night chats, I'll try to make the next one. I hit Clayjar's most Monday nights but often feel like teh lone Canuck on there<grin>. (well, DonnaG is there from time to time!). Cheers!
  23. I was looking for a replacement neck lanyard for the 60C when I picked one up but they listed nothing like that in the accessories page. At a weekend caching event I saw a guy who had a Geko and had just purchased the 60C. He found that the connector was the same so the Geko Neck Lanyard fits the 60C. I've already dropped my 60C in the snow at least once a cache (with the wrist strap) so I need one and it beats tyin' it around your neck with a piece of string.. http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/necklanyard.htm Cheers!
  24. I have one of these and take it with me even on summer cache trips. You just never know. Be careful not to cut the cache in half with it in the deep snow though<grin>.
