  1. Sorry, Lacto, you were directing that at Mr R and not me, were you? You know I have no probs with ANY sock Puppet used for the right reasons.
  2. Does it not define a Sock Puppet account as one created to cause havoc, arguments etc with the intention winding people up? (or something along those lines). If so, Deceangi is not a Sock Puppet account. I have an Alternative account which is not a Sock Puppet as it is used in exactly the same manner as this one. Before this gets into a slanging match of any description, do you not think it prudent, that we, once and for all, define Sock Puppet for all to understand? sock puppet n. A fake persona used to discuss or comment on oneself or one's work, particularly in an online discussion group or the comments section of a blog. —adj. A sock puppet, in Internet parlance, is a false Internet identity created for deceptive purposes. and I think the emphasis should be on 'deceptive'! Discuss ( or should I start a New thread?) - or has this been done?
  3. and there was me thinking I was going to get a free bike!
  4. Maybe this: ******* SPOILER ******* should have been at the beginning of this post.
  5. As you have posted it back, send an email requesting owner to grab it back from you. They now have it in their possession.
  6. I don't think it is a case of bravado but more commonsense and safety. I have done a fair number of caches where 2 people made more sense. In fact, out with drsolly yesterday, we had a DNF/Note at Swing Lower in Oxford. Although we did not venture onto the wet stuff, drsolly nearly suffered serious injury, if not worse, because of an accident. It's more a matter of: "better to be safe, than sorry". SP pointed out the possibility of slipping and falling. Oss!
  7. You keep writing those scripts but get out and cache more!
  8. Great! Check your inbox. Checked and nothing! No email; no PM.
  9. It may be that the database can be made to detect it but some caches were set to be discovered/found more than once as do some cache stters allow their caches to be logged more than onc`e.
  10. If one doesn't read the associated guidelines - as I didn't - one must learn through experience i.e. receiving 'tuition' in the manner you have already described. Personally, I think the percentage of Newbies who make this error (said in a Spock manner - Mr not Doctor) is negligible.
  11. I think I could be that person. There are a few caches in that area I haven't done and travel to my neck of the woods will be fairly easy for you. Contact me through my profile if you are interested. Oss!
  12. Somehow Jon, I knew exactly where that link was going to end up before clicking!
  13. Is there not a 'guideline' that states that a cache setter, when placing a new cache, should seek that cache to have some permanancy - a minimum of 3 months or so? I see he will be archivng it on 22 July 2 months after setting it. hmmm.
  14. trying to play it down until the 1500 (for reasons that will become clear soon) Whoops. Forgot about that Jeff. No car until the weekend. Will try and sort it then. Thank you everyone.
  15. Glad I could be of help. I will reproduce the email I sent, below. I totally agree, that Garmin have a huge (by comparison to what is used) notes page. Why oh why did Garmin restrict the number of characters to such a low number? As for the rest of your suggestion, this would truly make the unit rate amongst the best devices to have, IMHO. The email: This is simple to do. Open GSAK. Choose GPS>Send Waypoints. A dialog box will open as normal. Where it says "waypoint name" in the first line I put: %smart %con1%drop2 Below, set maximum characters to 15 or so. The first part, %smart, gives the SMART name of the cache. %con1 gives the Container type as 1 letter. ie S:small R:regular U:unknown M:micro L:large %drop2 gives the GC ID# WITHOUT the GC prefix So a typical example of a waypoint may be: - MoatMoun SXFMW Moat Mount Dollis Hill cache Small container GCXFMW Then in Waypoint Description part of dialog box, put %hint This will take the first 34 (I think) letters of the hint and place it on the GPS unit's note field. Useful if the hint is short or specific. Waste of time if the cache setter has used a hint like: This cache is hidden in the woods by the fallen tree. You only get to see: This cache is hidden in the woo You can now identify the cache name; size; GC code and the hint on one unit. This works great on my GPS MAP60Cx. Lester
  16. Decided to catch up with everyone else, pay for an upgrade and support Clyde. Downloaded Version 7 and about to register. Thank you anyway Edgemaster
  17. Here's a very simple macro that does exactly as you asked for. If you want to tweak the distances, just look at the file in the macro editor, it should be fairly obvious which numbers need to be tweaked. Just downloaded the file and will play in a moment. One question though, I see it is a .gsk file, will it still work as a macro in V6 if I resave it as a txt file? Oss!
  18. If you have the TB in your possession, leave it for a few days or a week. It may be that the person who left it, has not had a chance to log onto a PC. After that, email the person who had it last i.e. Jem09 and find out why they haven't logged it into a cache. It may be that they forgot which cache they left it in. Done that myself. After that, it you have a response, they can log it in, you log it out as a retrieve. If no response, I would suggest you Grab it, log it in the cache you found it in and then retrieve it. This will keep the mileage more up to date. Oss!
  19. Do you want the macro to produce cache type based on distance or can the macro produce a mix of cache types for the multiple distances involved?? A mix. It is not necessary to sort them as it is the cache page I need access to. The 'type' seperation aids with identification visually on the GPS unit. Once a cache has been dentified, as long as you know which file it is in, finding it in GPXSonar is easy. You just centre the first cache and the rest fall in place. They do not need to be sorted into type.
