  1. I need links so I can add my ridicule to the mix.
  2. always always take bug spray: http://coord.info/GC70 True and annoying fact, my dad does not get poison ivy or misquito bites. Did I inherit there super power NO. What did I get? I got his bad knees.
  3. We were on a road trip this summer. Somewhere between Santa Fe and Great Sand Dunes National Park we saw a truck hauling a couple of dirt bikes with a travel bug sticker on the back. We should have written down the number and figured out who they were. Some time ago, way pre-GC we were out hiking and were the muggles who saw a family find a cache. It was cute really, the kids got really excited and then saw us and got all cagey. One of the kids told us what they were doing and even showed us the cache. We didn't actually own a gps at the time so it didn't occur to us to try it. I actually forgot about it until we talked about trying it out and my husband reminded me about it.
  4. This is a discussion on the idea under consideration of adding a feature to TB logs to show them as missing. Just wanted to get other people to weigh in from here: http://feedback.geocaching.com/geocaching/..._trackable_page I love the idea of letting cachers log it when there are TB's showing on a cache page that are clearly missing. I found a cache this weekend that was supposed to have several TB's and had exactly 0 until I dropped one off.
  5. Annoying no doubt but the number of finds someone has shows up on the log entry. If I were looking at logs to decide whether to go for a cache or not and saw a DNF from someone with no finds I would assume they didn't know what they were doing.
  6. I always thought it was a bigger issue when people didn't post DNF's.
  7. I've never actually found a lampshade hide. It's got to happen sometime but so far I just haven't hit any.
  8. That sounds awesome. Look me up if you're ever in Charlotte. in other news FOUND IT W00T: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...67-64842312d165 Now I can get on with my life, or more accurately onto the next obsession.
  9. +1 It does rather sound like a good time. Now if there were just some broken glass or some poison ivy you'd be all set.
  10. It's friday people - lighten up. I used to hate it when I was a kid and would come home from school all excited about something, "mom mom today at school there was this kid" ---- "just one I thought there were 30 kids in your class". Just ONE who ate a grasshopper, but hey thanks for taking this opportunity to be a smart biscuit instead of listening to my story. people wonder why I lived with my dad
  11. oh wow a year? I have one that I've had for almost two weeks and I'm feeling guilty about it.
  12. sorry to hear that It would be nice if you could trump a micro with a larger cache. Boy wouldn't that stir things up though.
  13. I would like to weigh in on the side of CO's hiding a few caches that they can maintain. I would rather have fewer caches that people regularly check up on than hundreds of wet logs stuffed into film cans littering the city. carry on in whatever color you see fit
  14. oh NOOOES caches where you learn something this is an outrage My only real concern is that there are places that might be really good for this but you can't put a cache there because its...well a historical place. I suppose you could get around this by putting in a multi or joining the "bring back virtuals" camp.
  15. I don't think you can "find" your own cache.
  16. http://www.krem.com/news/local/Man-dies-af...f-70228277.html Oh WOW that is just awful.
  17. It wasn't caching but yesterday morning I was out running while it was still dark. I tripped over an uneven section of sidewalk and slammed the ground. It was amazingly fast too. One second I was running and then suddenly I was on the ground bleeding. My hands and left leg are rather scrapped up, but my garmin watch is ok. That was my first concern. Then I wondered how long it would take for my husband to come find me if I sat there pouting about it. In the end I decided that it wouldn't be worth it and kept going. The awesome part was when I thought it woudl be a good idea to spray water from my water bottle on my hands to clean them up. This was about 3 miles into my run so mostly what I did was shoot salty sweat into it so that was...neat. Oh and if you live on Queens Road in Charlotte, sorry about the blue language you may have heard at 5:30 yesterday morning.
  18. I don't think you're allowed to use woman as SWAG in a cache.
  19. I helps to know the area. I've seen a few on the map of my town that are in areas I don't care to venture into. Others are fine and take you to some nice views or interesting out of the way places in the city. Maybe we could have a "pepper spray recommended" attribute added to the site.
  20. I should copy/paste this whole diatribe into the log when I find it. I tried to borrow my boss' car to head out there. He took the train too and the coworker I've dragged along on a couple of lunch caches took the bus. Why all the sudden is everyone so into public transportation?!? We're Americans. We're supposed to drive everywhere alone, in big SUV's, taking several cars if possible to the same location while texting. This is outrageous.
  21. There is a cache about 7 miles from my house that is the oldest active cache in NC. There is a 10th anniversary party for it next month that I'm planning to attend. I wanted to find it before the party because even though part of this party seems to include going to the cache I didn't want it just handed to me. It's a puzzle cache: http://coord.info/GC70 I don't even want to admit how long it took me to get the smack you in the face obvious answer to the puzzle. But I did figure it out and decided to go for it this weekend despite the fact that it was in the upper 90's with 70% humidity out. So we go park in the spot suggested and head off towards the GZ. Instantly we were attacked by a swarm of ravenous mosquitoes. It was brutal. We tried to stick it out because it was supposed to be easy once you solved the puzzle but we couldn’t stand it and retreated. I actually logged that. What I did NOT log was that we went back out there coated with DEET. We even had the spray with us and reapplied during the hunt. The mosquitoes were just as bad and we could see and hear them teeming just searching for the one spot missed by the spray. One actually bit me on the cuticle of my thumb. My husband got bitten through his shorts. It was like walking in a little bubble inside a cloud of mosquitoes. We searched and search and still could not find the thing. I tried to put it out of my mind. We’ll wait until someone else finds it just to make sure it’s there but come on the oldest cache in the state did NOT get muggled. It’s there we just FAILED miserably to find it. Ok I admit it’s a thing now. I’m obsessed so today I waded through the entire log. Once upon a time it was a movable cache but when that wasn’t allowed anymore it nested where it is now. There were hints in there that made no sense to me. There was something about following a utility right-of-way and a warning that there was a barb wire low on the ground to watch out for. I didn’t see either of those two things. Suddenly it hit me. I solved the puzzle but I didn’t properly READ THE CLUE. I punch the answer into the coordinates at the top of the page. Those were for the parking. I was supposed to punch the answer into the coordinates between the clue and the possible answers. All that time we were in the right longitude but wrong latitude. We’re having dinner with my mother-in-law tonight. My husband is being unreasonable about this whole thing and saying that no we’re not going by there on the way to dinner and no we are not dragging his mom into the swamp to find a cache. Some Eagle Scout he turned out to be. I’m at work. I wonder if anyone would notice if I left, took the train to my car, went home, changed, found the cache, went back home, changed back into work clothes, drove to the train station, took the train back to work. Sigh it’s going to be DAYS and DAYS until I get back out there. Yea I have issues, we’ve established that but the point of all of this was that my life is a warning to others to READ THE CLUE. That is all
  22. I think it helps not to have a regular 8-5 job. The FTF freaks around here all have jobs that allow them to dart off on a mission at a moment's notice. I don't really worry about it. There is one not to far from me that nobody has found yet. There are a bunch of DNF logs and a note from the CO claiming that he checked and its still there. I figure if those guys can't find it I don't stand a chance. ah here we go new coordinates and now its been found: http://coord.info/GC2DHTT
  23. Your local club may or may not have something like this that isn't on here. maybe I dunno though I think I hear my phone ringing or something
  24. think he disappointed that he didn't turn out to be a big hero?
  25. Drat, I want some of that tape and I was just in Walgreens yesterday. I didn't even think to look there.
