  1. I bought a Case Logic case at CompUSA for $12 or so. It fits my Meridian Gold perfect.. Although I keep a couple pens in there, so I put it in upside down (antenna side first) for extra space. Has second smaller expandable pocket. A little too small for my PalmVx, but batteries, small swag is a sure fit.. Case logic ES-3, on the net for $8 and up. ^Pretend that digicam is the button side of a Merigold sticking out instead.
  2. How can you live in a house for years and not know which windows the early morning sun comes in, or where to look to see the sunset? No doubt. I usually always know directions. Especially in the sunny daytime. If i'm in Northern California, and I usually am, I can look at the stars and know basic directions.
  3. I tried the smart name stuff.. just couldn't get it. The waypoint number works so much better. Next time I get my PQs and export to GPS/CMT i'm going to try that drop first 2 letter thing.
  4. Make sure it has 8Mb as opposed to the 2MB with older Palm models. I have a PalmVx and it works great.
  5. Ugh. OMG. I never thought of that... [gears turning]
  6. I would have made an effort to contact her directly. I don't trust the police (so far away) to be thorough; and I like rewards. Besides. There's an interesting story as to why that purse was 2000 miles away from home.
  7. Good clarification. I was thinking E-Chick was a hardcore raver-type with lots of pills, and Mf was a big mother-f'n pothead. Shows you how prejudicial my mind is.
  8. I'd be flattered to be on someone's watchlist.
  9. Excellent suggestion. You can also write the first successive letters thereafter. Say you're looking for GCMN41. Start writing in the graffiti box.. "G" "C" "M" and keep going until it finds what you want. Since there's few caches that begin with GCM in MY local cachemate database, it finds it fast. I sort by waypoint, so this works well for me.
  10. Don't be so sure.. This is a great post. I have a cheap compass in my backpack, but in the daytime I don't need it. I couldn't use a map and topo to find my way anyways, but i've been hiking for a long time, and never been lost. We also cary two gps's with batteries for both.. when I hunt I never even carry my GPS and walk around all day and still find my way to the car. Some people are just good navigators. Some people don't know their a** from a shotgun barrel.. I refer to my original post: know your limitations.
  11. Safety is the responsibility of the cacher, not the website providing coordinates. If you thought you would get lost while gc'ing, why would you not think yourself to take a map/compass? Would you walk into a scorching desert and not bring water because noone told you to? Use common sense people. Know your limitations. Plan ahead. & there are plenty of threads with people trading quips on what survival gear they bring.
  12. On the sat screen, they will show up as a lowercase 'w'. I'm not sure if it shows a number and a bar for it on the bottom (i'm thinking no), but I have 2 w's on my screen right now.

  14. REI has a vast selection of sizes, shapes and colors. Didn't I just say this last night in another thread?
  15. http://www.caselogic.com/ Maybe too small for what you want, but I have one perfect for my Merigold, extra AAs and some small swag.
  16. Try Energizer e2 Lithium.. Cost twice as much, but last 3x as long.
  17. I was getting errors earlier. I don't think it's your specific query, but the server is busy or something in general. It's working fine now for me.
  18. I was scouring the net for information on various places in the El Dorado Nat'l Forest. As a rule, when googling I open everything I find of interest in a new window, and then go through them all. As my flipping was finishing up, I noticed this page about something or other. Checked it out. Long story short, in two weeks I was a premium member, bought a GPS, and had found my first cache. Thanks you google.com
  19. I was out recently and found a sunbleached cow-femur. Or something. It looks dadgum cool on my PC rack. In some state, Nevada? Utah? along US50 there is a shoe tree. I bet there's a cache nearby too.
  20. GSAK, Cachemate, Mapsend Topo3D. Winning combination until I buy Garmin..
  21. I have a tiny micro on deck when I find a good spot this spring... my suggestion is to use something with a SMALLER diameter than your intended bison tube or whatever. Make your log sheet now, roll it up, and stick it in the smaller diameter thing, a straw, a .22 shell, vicegrips, what-have-you. Then leave it someplace safe until you decide to hide your tube. Then put it in at the last minute and it will be fairly easy to go in and out. I went as far as to put a wire bent ingeniously so the finder could pull it out easily. Anyways. Still have yet to hide it. Just my suggy. ps: my local REI (Folsom, CA) has a vast assortment of BISON type containers, aluminum, in various anodized colors, sizes and shapes.
  22. I've used skin-so-soft as a flea dip. Works great. As for the skeetos, I stick with DEET. Deep Woods or Sportsman OFF! and you're safe for awhile. Proven safe for over 50 years. I just stay away from the 100% stuff. edit: To clarify, I dipped my DOG, not myself.

Will we get to see some of the results/statistics from them? I'd like to see how many people don't like micro's
