  1. MZMTG and I still want to participate in the race. If there is anything we can do to help and still be able to race just let me know. I know we couldn't help with hiding the caches, but maybe there is something else. Maybe even contribute some $ to help out.
  2. I recently decided to explore terracaching and was turned off the minute I realized that I had to be sponsored to be a member. I will stay with GC.com.
  3. So far our one day record is about 5, but we want to do a 24 hr run soon.
  4. It has replaced housework and laziness and I am not complaining.
  5. We have also started using DeLorme on our laptop when we go out. We do most of our caching on the weekends so we decide which ones look interesting to us and we use those to plan a route with Street Atlas.
  6. We just got and are using DeLorme Street Atlas to help plan our routes. I don't know if that is the kind of thing you are talking about.
  7. It will be interesting to see if anyone actually bids on that.
  8. You are so sunburned that your legs and feet are swollen, you can't walk, you have missed 4 days of class and your first day at your new job, the pain is so bad that your doctor put you on Vicodin yet you decide to deal with the agony, crawl to your husband's car and help him find a cache all so that you can see how well your new mapping software works with the gps. And they were worried I would get addicted to the Vicotin.
  9. About $2.15/gal here in central Al and was about $2.30 when we were in Tampa, Fl last week.
  10. I am a senior in college and for part of our Business and Professional Writing midterm we had to write a short paper titled " teach me something". The purpose was to teach my professor something she didn't know and the winner would get exemption from the final exam. I chose geocaching as my topic and I won. I am very happy that my new hobby got me out of my final exam.
  11. I am a college student at Auburn University Montgomery. I have wanted a gps for years. I was mainly interested in its field uses since I am a biology major. My husband bought me one for my birthday and while he was shopping online he found out about geocaching. That was about a month ago and we are really enjoying it.
  12. I have only done a couple of midday caches on my own, but I know I will be doing more on my own since my husband and I have such different schedules. I am used to hiking alone and going on long trips by myself and the thought of geocaching alone doesn't bother me. I was lucky enough to be raised by a police officer and so I started learning self defense and good observation skills very early. When I go hiking alone I make sure someone knows exactly where I am going and when I will be back. I also take the basics like my cell phone, first aid kit, etc and my 38 is usually with me too. Above everything else, I ALWAYS listen to my intution and stay aware of my surroundings. If you listen to your gut, it will never fail you.
  13. We have only been at this for about two weeks, but I can already see that we will probably seek out more caches that take us on long hikes or to interesting places we haven't been before. I won't rule out quick, local micros though. Those are good for when the urge to find hits me and I only have 30 minutes to get it done. I think I may already be addicted to this game.
  14. Haven't come across any animals while caching ( but I have only been at it for a week). However, my husband and I have come across a bear while camping in North Georgia. Luckily he was anxious to get away from us and we watched as he ran off into the woods.
  15. Go to hide/seek cache and do a search. When you get your results page there will be an option at the bottom that lets you switch from miles to kilometers and back.
  16. My husband got me a GPS for my birthday last month. I have wanted one for a while b/c I am a biology student and thought it would be useful in the field. My husband and I discovered geocaching last week and we are already hooked. I am glad I have a daily use for my new toy.
