  1. Wow! Talk about memories! I've still got a FUNCTIONING 386dx!! Don't date yourself...
  2. Yes! I started caching with the Etrex Legend. Not knowing what I needed, I read a number of forum posts and realized that this was the least expensive (cheapest) Garmin unit that had a 'click stick'. The forums said to avoid any unit that did not have one. Solid advice! Of course, I suffered from GPS envy and just upgraded to the 60CS. By the way, the legend faithfully led me to a host of caches. It never let me down!
  3. I also had that problem of the compass going off into the tulies. Hold Level, my foot! I'd calibrate it as level as possible and still get that message. Solution? I quit using the compass function altogether and get to the caches using the GPS input only. If you press and hold the page button, you can force the compass ON or OFF. No more messing around!
  4. This thread confirms it. I thought the system may be down. Fortunately, I've got about half a dozen in my GPSr and some more printed cache pages to feed my addiction!
  5. I was FTF on a micro and couldn't find a writing stick to save my life. I found a toothpick and used it to poke an outline of my 'handle' and date and noted that in the on-line log. It must have worked because the STF noted in his log that he could make out that someone else had already 'signed' the log. Now I have tied a pen to my GPS lanyard so I will never be without something to write with, until the ink runs out!
  6. Check out Terraserver.com. They will give the lat/long of US addresses but only general city lat/long for other countries.
  7. I'm new to this but I ALMOST always log my DNFs. If I run out of daylight or have to leave due to time limits, I don't add a DNF but I'll include a note. Sometimes, a sad DNF post will get me the email hints I'm looking for!
  8. I have to agree with Grandpa Alex on both parts. It was a beautiful weekend in NC and I couldn't go caching either. The grass is growing too fast and my better half wanted some things done in the garden. There is good news however, I hit a couple of caches during lunch today so I'm feeling much better.
