  1. Well the only REAL issue with the 2.5l subaru was the headgasket and was resolved by subaru in 2005. A simple job that can be done by the home mechanic with minimal tools and a cost of $150 (assuming the heads don't need resurfacing)...
  2. Subaru not reliable as a Honda. Blasphemy. Funny how I have had many subarus and put very little money in them aside from routine things such as oil changes/plugs/wires/whatnot and driven them to 300k and still sold them as a running car. Now I drive a geo metro and have driven it up 4wd roads and spent a lot if time on logging roads... Totally do-able if you are careful and choose your routes well... And I get 48-50 mpg. Come on, geocaching and geos go together!!!!
  3. If you want a great medium sized container I have used the large sized peanut butter containers... I cover them in camo duct tape and they work very well, hide nicely, and stay dry! I have one cache made of one if these that has been active for 4 -5 years! It may sound kinda lame, but it hides extremely well with the camo tape and is a great size to blend with plant life well- and there is plenty of room for decent treasures!
  4. I used to have garmin map60csx and I sold it and bought one of the plugin external gps units for my iphone. It greatly improves the accuracy and it has it's own internal battery (but either device can slave off the other). The model I bought was the emprum utilimate GPS. It' aquires satellites very quickly and works very well under tree cover and all that. I know there are other companies that make similar devices but this one seemed to get the best reviews. So I say iphone caching with the accessory is best (for me) along with the geocaching app and for all other outdoor sports the Gaia app. That's my 2 cents!
  5. So, will the iphone5 GPS work in airplane mode??? Kinda important while out and about for days backpacking & saving batteries!
  6. The bad elf gps is very similar to the emprum model. However, emprum has not developed a new version for the new apple plug. I may check it out when it's phone upgrade time! So you are one of the Gaia developers... Good job on the app, love it. One of the reasons I sold my garmin GPS and went with the plugin & Gaia was because of the ability to use open source maps! Garmin's maps are expensive! Love being able to choose from many different maps and also being able to download other peoples way points & tracks- comes in real handy for off trail backcountry excursions!
  7. Hello, I'm getting back into caching since busyness took me away for a few years... A couple years back I sold my gps (garmin map60cs) and bought a emprum utilimate GPS plugin for my iphone. I read nothing but amazing reviews on it, so I purchased it! I love it, combined with the Gaia GPS app it has been amazing for my deep backcountry backpacking/snowshoeing trips... I used it last weekend to find some caches and it preformed great. I was just curious if anyone in the caching world uses this, or what peoples opinion is on this, or just a general discussion on plug in GPS devices for iPhones.
