  1. The standard procedure is to move it step by step as many times as needed.
  2. Does this tactic work? I mean, does the community throw down a new cache or does this non-existent cache just block the release of a new cache in the same place?
  3. It is also good to notice that CO can not change the OM to a Note afterwards. If CO would like to conceal the action, he would delete the entire log.
  4. For me, logging a lonely cache is not a competition, it is an achievement and not the easiest one. It can be done, if you really want to, but it does not happen without any effort. Effort is not same as competition. But there is a problem. Situation may change before the cache owner check results and then you claim may be cancelled.
  5. I have a easy and evil solution for this problem. You know that the only special feature for the hint field is that it is ROT-13 encoded. You can easily move your large hint section to the end of the description field if you use a tool like http://rot13.com to encode it. This is the easy part. The evil part is that your hints are not visible to geocachers until they really decode the hint. It gives them opportunity to decode only one hint at a time, not all at once, as it unintentedly happens when you use the default hint field.
  6. Just for curiosity, your statistics shows "Trackables Owned 8". Did you get them all sold?
  7. This is a good note. Many times I detect some errors after submitting and now this possibility is gone for waypoints. I suggest that the "Cancel" button to be moved to the end of editor page, so you can see all details but can not save it until you cancel the previous submission. I also submitted the cache accidentally many times because the Submit button is next to the Save and preview. Luckily this process can be cancelled even though there is no visible Cancel option. You can post more reviewer notes from the description page but only reviewer notes. Old way to post an ordinary note before publishing is gone, which helps newcomers to do the right thing but also prevents to post public announcements before the cache is published. Now I have submitted a new cache using the new editor. I resubmitted it about three times leading to a long list of reviewer notes. I guess that there is acceptable techincal reason to lock the cache this way. Even though I knew that I can upload new images directly from the editor, I could not find where it can be done until I used a text seach for "image". The upload feature is hidden to a text link and it is unlikely to be noticed. Finallly I had no problems to get the link address as I have done many times before, but for a newcomer it is still difficult to add images to the description. Maybe the image upload feature could be moved to the gallery as it is not intented to be a part of editing the description anyway.
  8. I can not reproduce this problem either. I remember that I have found something weird which relates to comments even before this change. Some comments disappeared and others didn't. I remember vaguely that it was depending on the position where I added the comment or the content inside the comment.
  9. As there are different ways to interpret difficulty and terrain ratings there is also differences to interpret "Found It" and "Didn't Find It". The definition for "Found It" contains signed logbook, but in many cases the logbook is signed by an another player and also also using different username. For example "Alice" and "Bob" may sign briefly "TeamAB" when only Alice is signing the log and Bob is waiting her in a car. Actually Bob should post "Didn't Find It" and only Alice should post "Find It", but things never goes that way, you know. In contrast to the previous example the "Didn't Find It" is even more difficult to interpret coherently. Many players just don't collect them to fill their DNF D/T-matrix, streaks and calendars and just skip posting "Didn't Find It" because it has no interest in them. For some other players it is important to post "Didn't Find It" for every possible case where it is applicapple and they also may share their experience by writing a log explaing what problems they faced during the search. And between those two, there are some players who post a "Write note" when they are not sure how to interpret the situation. For example when something prevented accessing or signing the logbook. This is one way to fill the empty zone between "Find It" and "Didn't Find It".
  10. Why not to publish new caches at the same location? Just copy the description (without missing images) and it's done. You may ask the FTF finder to write the new GC-code to the logbook if you care about the details.
  11. Careless suggestion CHS system also knows how many geocaches were recently at the GZ using the official mobile app and not posting any Finds for some reason.
  12. They are not known to be quality supplies as you just testimonied. For example: Have you ever seen a leaking ammobox which is not deformed by visitors?
  13. I am quite amazed about this, because there is nothing about broken links in guidelines. There is also some mystery caches with intented errors in links. And finally, the content of the description is not part of the reviewing process. Any misspelled words must be left as written. Empty description is also ok. Only links to commercial sites are forbidden. Sometimes images are served from 3th site which may lead to not intended results as ads instead of the original image when the user account is terminated from the service. This is different situation and definitely violates guidelines.
  14. Most of the damage to a cache is caused by careless finders. When you add this fact to your maintenance equation you will find that no visitors means an ever-lasting cache if you use quality supplies to make one.
  15. The most obvious reason here is also the most propable. Many or most (maybe) COs just do not read their e-mail because too many TFTC etc. New dashboard is trying to address this problem.
  16. I have seen a reviewer asking me to clean up remains of an old archived cache when I am placing a new cache nearby. This way the community can participate to the cache maintenance. The cache itself is always property of the CO, but despite of disabling or even archiving the cache, it is juridically a lost property and shoud be handled according to local legislation. Here it means that the finder can keep it.
  17. Before you archive the cache you should visit the place and collect the remains off. When you only disable the cache then the reviewer will do this for you when archiving the cache, right?
  18. I have made this mistake because the system offers OM automatically instead of WN. In old good times, I had to choose the type of log before I got it posted. Now the system "knows" it better than me what I am going to do.
  19. Sure, because disabling a cache is not related to maintenance. Sometimes cache is disabled because there is nesting birds nearby. Before the cache is disabled, the community is welcome to post finds and report problems but after it is disabled it is not so welcome to try to find it or report it missing etc even cache cops will do this anyway.
  20. Years ago, there was a disabled cache near my home. I waited 6 monts and then published a new cache nearby at the same day when the disabled cache was archived by a reviewer. I did not feel any bad when I was waiting. Should I have?
  21. It is also not bad for anyone. It is just in limbo state.
  22. I have seen many such events. This can shock you, so be warned! I have seen cache owned by an active reviewer. This cache needed maintenance and got disabled and later it was archived by another reviewer due to lack of maintenance. This is the process for everyone, even reviewers do this. My advice is that when cache is disabled do not worry about it. It's someone else's job.
  23. I am very sorry for you That time limit would be too short for me but luckily we have here so much free space for caches that our reviewers are not so pushy. When I started this hobby, it was written in guidelines that caches are supposed to be permanent. Now it is desirable that they are available just a few weeks.
  24. I am sure that CO didn't know what guidelines say about the type of log. I usually post OM when I have made modifications to the description without visiting the cache so I am very bad, am I?
  25. Where do you have such a hurry? This is a lifelong hobby and if the cache is not available this year, but you will be able to find it next year, you have lost nothing unless you are going to retire of your hobby within a year.
