  1. The student is targeted for Michigan, but if a host family elsewhere is interested, it can be arranged.
  2. Which forum do you recommend? All the forum descriptions seem to be very specific to their topics, which is why I posted here.
  3. YFU is a well-respected and established non-profit organization that was established in 1951. YFU has an outstanding reputation and does full background checks on host families. The welfare of students is my number one job. Our web site is http://www.yfu.org. In the US, go to http://www.yfu-usa.org/.
  4. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this. I am in Michigan and am a volunteer rep for Youth For Understanding (YFU). YFU fosters exchange students all over the world. We have a 16-year old male German exchange student that enjoys geocaching. I'm wondering if there is a family that would be interested in being a host family. Exchange students come with health insurance and their own spending money. You provide a roof over their head, 3 meals a day, and make sure they have transportation to school. The exchange students become a member of your family and share in chores and family activites. It is a wonderful and rewarding experience. If anyone would like more details on YFU or this geocaching student. please send me a private message.
  5. Gee, thanks, Mr. Holier-than-thou, for the total discreditation, as if I don't know what I'm talking about merely because you have found more caches than I.
  6. I've submitted two PQs to be sent to my account's email address. I checked the address in my profile and it is correct. I have not received either one. How long does it take?
  7. I have Garmin Nuvi 265WT. It has a pedestrian mode that works pretty well. Battery life of a car model is going to be a lot shorter than an offroad model, but the 265WT lasts 3-4 hours. If you're not doing all-day hiking, it might get you by. The only thing I wish the 265WT had is an electronic compass, but you can buy a cheap compass.
  8. I'm about to drive a 710 mile trip. As the journey will be long as it is, I won't have time to do any serious GCing. However, it would be nice to know if there are any GCs at rest stops or very close to our route. But when I try to create a route, I'm told it doesn't work for routes over 500 miles. Any suggestions? My GPS is a Garmin Nuvi 265WT.
  9. Hello from West Bloomfield. We've just started and have been geocaching for about two weeks. It would be nice to find a more active online community for our area. We found our first TB on Saturday.
  10. I picked up what looks like a geocoin. I haven't found one before, so I'm not sure what to look for. It is a wooden coin that says "Quintette was here!" on one side and "Geocaching since June 2008, Farmington Hills, MI" on the other. The number 00150 is stamped on the back. When I try to look up the number on geocaching.com, I get the following error: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. The coin also does not show up in the trackables list of the cache it was found in.
  11. I'm having some frustration, too. There are very few 1's near us, but most of the 1.5/1.5's we've looked for couldn't be found. Not sure I want to continue this "hobby".
  12. I've just started geocaching, and I'm getting the feeling that many local caches are under-rated. There are very few 1's near us, but we've looked for several 1.5/1.5 caches without success.
