  1. "A Maple Leaf" I know, it's not an image, but I'm at the work computers, and cant be messing about with images right now
  2. Nope, it was due to me repeatedly writing down a 4 instead of a 5.
  3. Okay... Say I come across a cache that the log is full on... I have spares with me, so I drop a new one in and if the cache has enough room I leave the old one there- but what if it's a micro/nano, and you can't squeeze any more paper in there than the already full log? Do you replace it anyhow, taking the old one with you, or do you just shake your head in frustration and log it as a NM or "Found but couldn't sign because of full log"? Same basic question on wet logs- what should you do with the wet one? Leave it in there to moulder and mildew, or take it out with you? (I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before, I tried a search but didn't find an answer)
  4. What you found was most likely a letterbox or one step in a multicache in the area. From looking at he map near the first cache you found, it looks like there is at least 3 different multi caches in the area. Each multi could have several different steps and stages... without knowing the starting clue, it's hard to do anything with the "puzzlepiece" you stumbled on. EDIT: did some research and found out it is indeed a letterbox, pary of a Monty Python and the Holy Grail series. I emailed the letterbox owner and told them that the box was very close to a geocache in case they wanted to move it.
  5. GC272G9 says "the container is handmade and large but holds a micro container" maybe it's a handmade caboose model? When I think of large caches, I think of something the size of a 12pack of soda or larger. It would be kinda hard to hide something that big out in a parking lot, where the satellite image says GZ is at. I wonder if it's maybe in the trees along the edge of the parking lot, or maybe even farther out in the cluster of trees to the northeast.
  6. One thing that helped me is doing a websearch for "Geocache containers" .. helps to find them if you have a visual before hand of what you might be looking for. They range in sizes from super tiny (pencil eraser) to 5 galon bucket size for the most part. I've only got 2 physical cache finds so far, and one cache hidden really close to my home so I can keep a close eye on it. Learning that hiding can become pretty expensive, depending on the level of effort you want to put in.
  7. Unfortunately I can't do that with my GPS... I use a GeomateJr.
  8. I'm still able to pull up the maps with no problem. What happens for you when you click the view map link now? Do you get an error message, blank screen or something else?
  9. Last night and earlier this morning I was mapping out coordinates to an area that I'm planning on placing a cache. I placed down a brick to mark the exact place I want the cache to go, and went back every half hour. I got a set of about 24 readings between 8pm and 8am to judge if theres much sway due to satelite position, and I'm feeling great that all my readings are comming up with very little "sway". Comfortable with my readings I head back into the house to look up the coords on googlemaps. Holy jeez- the coordinates are putting me about 7 miles away in the next town east! I think "What the heck did I do wrong? " so I check the paper I wrote everything down on and compare it to what I entered... Exactly the same. So I try a couple different internet maps, each one puts me in the other town. I started to get frustrated, and went back out to my brick and read the coordinates one last time. The GPS gives me W 092 59.455 ... compare that to what I wrote down every single time - I had W 092 49.453 to W 092 49.459 Put the updated coords from the last reading in, and TADA- I'm in the right town, and practically on top of the actual area according to the satelite. Gah, I can be so dumb sometimes. Just glad I verified with the maps before actually saving the coords!
  10. I see you're from the south... I'm guessing you've never noticed the abundance of red train cabooses out there? We only have one up here in MN that I know of, but when I lived in TN, it seemed like every other bar or restaurant in the area had a train caboose in the front yard. Maybe that's why we hardly ever see a caboose attached to an actual running train anymore. But anyhow, I'm rambling... A red caboose hide is usually a magnetic key holder attached somewhere on a caboose.
  11. TYSM for the lexicon link, there were a few I was confused about in there as well
  12. Byn234 - Saint Paul MN Just got started, no finds yet, but still trying. Hoping to maybe find some groups that wouldn't mind a complete newbie joining up to learn the tricks of hunting down the elusive cache.
