  1. I recently had the opportunity to listen while about 30 cachers like you (been around geocaching several years, have hundreds if not thousands of finds) talked about Waymarking. You probably won't be surprised to hear that they all agreed with you. It's good that you took the time to say what you thought--a lot of the people who have been into caching for several years don't bother with the forums. The meandering focus of this thread and many others like it are the reason many people don't bother with the forums. Personally I'd rather be out in the woods looking for a cache or searching Waymarking.com for a great brew pub than spend any more time here reading the rants of folks who seem intent to argue no matter what the topic. Put down the keyboards and go outside!
  2. Muggermots, As the sales and marketing director for a commercial playground manufacturer and an avid geocacher I've always thought we should be using our technology to point families at local playgrounds. Thanks for suggesting this waymark category. I hope it's accepted when the time comes to go live. Cheers, BigToys
  3. Why is it that no one has pointed out the "commercial" nature of this entire Jeep campaign? It seems to me that it contradicts the "rules" of geocaching that are stated on the website under "cache listing requirements": http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx Why is it considered acceptable to promote a product through a Travel Bug when it isn't with a cache?
  4. Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, but I couldn't find a thread on this topic anywhere. Is it possible to log a geocoin (Oregon in this case) on the geocaching.com site? I went to the Oregon site and logged it there, but it obviously won't show up in my "account" on this website. Any advice on this? Thanks in advance! BigToys
  5. I had a very similar experience recently with the exception that the lower "smaller box" with TB's in my posession didn't appear at the point I was logging the TB drop off. According to the system, at that point I didn't have any TB's in my posession, but I did since I hadn't placed the Panda Pride TB yet. Not having the lower TB drop down on the cache log screen made it impossible for me to show where I had left the TB. I want back after completing the log and left a note and sent the TB owner an e-mail. I have to admit I felt like I had screwed something up, but there was no way to complete the transfer online. I've been reluctant to pick another TB up out of fear it'll happen again. Any ideas? BigToys By The Way: I did register that I had picked the TB up and it shows in my profile even now.
  6. Hey Hermit Crabs, Now I've really got my tail between my legs! Thanks for paying better attention than I am. I appreciate the info and the helpful nature of everyone in the forum. Thanks! BigToys
  7. Thanks "mortaine" and my apologies"Stony2008" for posting in the wrong forum. Mortaine, the TB you described as still being in the original cache was also removed. We know this because we went back and looked several days after dropping it off and it's not there. I realize the website can't know it's been taken unless it's logged and that's the crux of my question. Why take it if you aren't going to use it properly? We'll just hope for the best and assume it will show up again or has gone on to a better life on someone's desk somewhere! BigToys EDIT: spelling!
  8. My 10 year old son and I are pretty new to Geocaching, and he is very interested in the concept of Travel Bugs and giving them goals. We recently bought several and registered them and dropped them in one of our favorite caches. Within days they had both been removed from this cache, but only one of them has been logged as removed. Our question is, how often TB's just disappear without a trace? Is it common for them to go missing for a while and then re-appear? Does the TB system on the Geocaching website work well? It seems like I've found that I have had TB's that I've picked up, logged and then tried to place in a cache, but they don't show up in my account in order to show them as dropped in a new cache. I'm wondering if this is happening for others? It might explain why one of ours is already missing. I also recognize that the system is only as good as the users and if folks aren't logging the removed TB's then the whole process is broken at that point. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. BigToys
  9. The silver lining is that everyone who was outside enjoying themselves today are online logging their finds!
