Hopefully you figured this out. It could also be a cable thing, if you used a different cable. I have (had?) one charge only USB cable, and my unit would do the same when I accidentally grabbed it. Switching cables to a standard cable fixed the problem. -
BaseCamp 3.3.1 for Mac

I was having the same problem. It isn't the BaseCamp software per se. According to this post it is that GPX 1.0.1 isn't supported by Garmin/BaseCamp. Once I switched to 1.0 in my preferences, it looks to have worked correctly. BaseCamp 3.3.1+ is the first time I've had issues with this not being supported (or is the first time I noticed). I hope this helps others! EDIT: Just noticed that the OP mentioned this didn't help him. It did me. Good luck.
