  1. FYI I also was interested in buying an addittional unlock, but for the older more user freindly N7, guess what, 99$, yow baby what a suprise. So I emailed Garmin and got a very nice response for someone telling me that yes it does cost almost as much for additional unlocks as new software, he did offer to make a deal for less(1/2) over the phone but as for my needs thats still to much for old map data. On the mapsource update to newer versions be forewarned that you will looose some of the features the older one has, I'm not sure about all changes but we lost our GPS tab that allows real time tracking, bummer but we do use Nroute so it wasn't to bad. TTFN
  2. FYI If you have CitySelect 6/7 and go to the garmin site to unlock maps or browse you may be told you are eligible for an update to CN 8 dvd, this seems like a great idea. I ordered the update, received the dvd, installed it(1.68gb), went to unlock map data and THEN was informed it would be 75.00 . Well I really didn't need the latest map data, so I opted out of this update, then I found that my mapsource had been updated to a newer version, that my harddrive was low on space, that the GPS tab in mapsource was gone . O K so to sum up this rant newer isn't allways a good thing, I was able to remove CN8 and reload CS7 so all is well
  3. I share your pain as I just went through my own brain twister with a quest audio update, unfortunately your update is different. I updated a summit but i did it by just downloading the firmware updater and did it manualy.
  4. O K update, thanks to my wifes laptop I was able get it done, and yes it was as painless as could be, I also now have british/english, bloody right! On the other computer running win98se when triing to drag I would get a circleslash sign and nothing would happen when dropping to the updater. The laptop running winxp had no such problem... oh well just the way it is???
  5. sorry for the hyjack but is anyone else with a quest1 been able to update their audio version. Heres my deal, download the file, unzip, the instuctions say to drag the "rgn" file to the updater, dragging the file to the updater DOES NOT WORK. Running the updater does not work, says theres not update data. Its only 2 files, I would think it should be simple, as updating firmware was painless, am I missing something, again srroy for the hyjack!
  6. I've had my quest for about a month, been on several cache hunts with it, just switch to off road mode and you'll get a compass page in addition to the trip meter. I also take it in my other car 5 days a week without the charging base and so far I've only used about half the batterys life. I say if you want a great great unit and want to save some money to boot get the quest. If you've got the extra bucks get the quest 2, I've loaded a large portion of the pacific northwest in both cityselect and topo and only used 98 of 115m so its not to small for my needs, Get one though!! You won't be disapointed
  7. in a word yes, with the quest you will be intitled to a free update. I am curently waiting for mine after receiving an email confirmation
  8. It will give you a warning abput loosing all the other map info but it will not erase the basemap, when I got the warning it kinda spooked me so I backed out, to come back and go for it. The topo maps are very cool!!
  9. its just trying to show the Quest what its made of after all they are related
  10. I will add this note, no need to have the 12v adaptor, cords are a drag! go buy a pack of energizer rechargeable batteries and either a fast charging car charger or any other bundeled package. (they come in various options). These batteries are unbelievable, a set of four should get you through a week of almost constant use, with or without the backlight on, thats my opinion I am using them in an etex summit and legend, both are battery hoggs (snort). Do a search on them and read more.
  11. etrex summit, etrex legend, bought within 2months of each other, both great in there own way..............i "think" i need a 60cs
  12. Just curious how long after the first gps was puchased, the second one was. For us it was a Garmin Summit for valintines day and then a Garmin Legend on our anniversary april 3 .
