  1. Merry Christmas *mouse*, and everyone else in fact. No caching for me today, but I did go caching yesterday. My Christmas present from geocaching was an FTF that was published four days previously. No caching - some of us have to work or attend same. Keep posting and keep me occupied
  2. Remember you'll need to make safe keeping arrangements for your electronic equipment. "Because it's technically still a working pit, visitors have to wear hard hats and remove anything electrical, for fear of igniting underground gasses. This means that all electronic devices - camera, watches, walkmans, mobile phones etc - have to be left on the surface, so I wasn't able to take any photos. Next time I'll take my old mechanical SLR film camera!" And even that SLR camera is likely to have a battery too.
  3. Yes I'v had similar and when questioned the reply was; Had only just got their phone when made the find, Hadn't at that time learnt how to log.
  4. You can have decrypted hints show within POI(s) not within waypoints. There is a macro 60CSxPOI.gsk which will allow you to do that. You'll need Garmin POI loader installed on your computer too. I usually export they same filter of caches both as waypoints and POI(s) Use the waypont first then if you struggle you can look at the POI and get the hint.
  5. Some folk have managed to source wide top aluminium pots about that size. Sadly I've never found a suitable source. Used them regularly when I was in the nuclear industry.
  6. Finding caches is easier than using Groundspeak forums when they foul up
  7. Not from your area but I enjoyed caching there and would recommend those in the Granville Country Park. Enjoy a full day and bag about 30. The joy of geocaching is that hides and containers can be diverse. Concentrate on those that have been found recently and persevere until you find them.
  8. I've suggested in the past it would be beneficial to be able to seed a PQ from a GSAK filter but Groundspeak won't allow it. I live in hope.
  9. There are only 8 in the world called your mission, so it did not take long to get the number Try GCKZ29 It does look good, now when can I accidently drive past it Yes that was the cache. It will involve a lot of driving. Its no more hazarous for kids than many other caches. Biggest thing to cope with is if they can't handle gaps between your progress. I issued a challenge to asfastasfcuk to divert him from number grabbing but I think he is a bit shy. Or is it a shyster? Also if you want it as an absolute milestone you may have to start soonest and juggle your finds.
  10. Yes I would second "Your Mission" but if we are both thinking of the same one bear in mind that you will be unlikely to complete it in a day or a single visit. Dr Solly will shorten most folks times of course, with the intelligence and rescources he always have to hand. Would be good to see another name on the accomplishment. Go for it.
  11. I've seen some before probably in Wiltshire but was unsure what they were for.
  12. They've put the effort into finding the cache in the first place. If they wanted to put effort into writing wee stories they could join a Creative Writing class instead. I think the point is many of us like the logs to reflect the state of the cache, I know the guidelines state that caches should be checked monthly but that is often not practical or desirable. I know from my own caches logs such as: Nice big box = someone has taken most the contents. Found easily = A PAF call enabled me to find it. Plain speaking and truthful logs can only improve the whole caching experience. agentmancuso is biased towards trigs with 600+ visited with very factual logs, I can't anticipate him visiting a trig then leaving an uninformative or meaningless log. Why should geocaching be any different?
  13. I go caching to an area where I have solved a puzzle or identified a choice cache, or as yesterday near where I have maintained some distant caches. During the summer months I try to go further afield and hopefully for more than a single day away. Likewise in the summertime I hardly do any caching close to home. Other than the few caches I've identified to do on the trip, many of the others I go into with scant knowledge of what's on the cache page, you often get nice surprises. Those that turn out too difficult to do or need to be done at a different time, you can always walk away from or reschedule. Just completed one cache that took about 7 quite distant journeys but picked up quite a few others along the way
  14. Yeah but that £6 or £7 spray can will spray 2 coats on 30+ ammo boxes, so if you buy your boxes in bulk no problem. Good to hear you are getting rid of those nasty military markings, that so many fail to.
  15. The way I decide whether something counts as a find (and this is just my own way of doing things) is to figure out whether I actually did what was required to locate and retrieve the cache. If I located the cache and had it in my hand then it's a find, unless the cache page makes clear that opening the container is a part of the challenge and I failed to do so. That often means taking a picture of the cache and surroundings so the CO knows I did actually get to the cache. As far as possible I leave some evidence of my presence, which might be cutting the corners off a micro's log sheet, or leaving something in the container (even if it is just a crumpled leaf) or whatever. One time I found a micro the day after attending a wedding, so I cut a thin strip from the ribbon from our invite to put in the cache, on the basis it was all I had that would fit. If I've sighted the cache but not retrieved it then I use common sense. If it's a 1/1 cache that's fallen somewhere out of reach I'll claim a find, if it's a 1/1 cache that I couldn't physically get to because of an infestation of muggles I'll claim a find. If the ratings are about 3 or higher because it's up a tree or in some obscure position then I don't claim it unless I physically retrieved it. I "found" one cache that was rated 3.5/3.5 in the sense I could see it, 20 feet up in the tree, but because the terrain and location makes clear you have to get to the cache rather than just sight it I just wrote a note. And where exactly does your reasoning fit in with the publishing requirement that all physical caches require a log book Its there for a reason, and if you don't append to it, you have not found the cache We could all claim many more if we didn't walk away from those where muggles abound. Your attitude is a disgrace.
  16. Just another thing to slow down page loading as the adverts also do I want an menu option to personalize the page that is delivered I would strip all this garbage and excess baggage out I don't need it
  17. Yes they are great pieces of kit. I found it astounding that a company producing astounding kit didn't make a production run of replaceable spares before ceasing production of the unit. Or at least having records of last supplies issued to stockists. Luckily I found spares very locally but often these very small parts are not advertised. Many reputable companies keep or will make parts for previous models, Otterbox failed in this respect.
  18. You got a better response than I did then. Update for Case #88302 - "Otterbox 3600 spares" Unfortunately, we have discontinued that item and no longer have any replacement parts for it at all. Thank you, Natasha Meggenberg Was not too thrilled with their service
  19. I haven't done the Chiltern 100 yet, and wonder if I could complete the circuit in 12 hours or at all as I've been feeling unwell for a few days. I'll see how today goes and decide later.
  20. I don't see how, I've just had a quick look and there are around 77 Published Events in the future in the UK. and that's up to the 18th of September. all those events don't seem to have had a issue. It's a issue we don't often come across, personally the drive between events is something which I can remember applying several years ago to a Event in Chester. The Organiser of that event is still organising events, and happily does so. So it is not a new thing in the UK at least. It was only a within the last couple of years that the UK actually had 20 Active Published events Listed. we've now nearly 4 pages of Active Published events. And the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if we hit 5 pages at some point this year. Deci The point I was trying to make was how does one know if one neighbour is planning an event or the same time/day? Seems there will be an awful lot of wasted effort by both event organisers and reviewers.
  21. Sounds like a death knoll for events to me. The likelihood of many clashes during the planning stage, must surely result in fewer folk bothering to organise events if there is a chance they will get rejected at review stage Not that I organise or attend many events, but I can see many being sad with this new ruling.
  22. I don't know of any bulk method. For individual pages insert the URL for the page into google translate.
  23. Be unique, design your own. Remember though that paper labels will not be suitable. Transfer decal papers work but are fiddly and time consuming. View the gallery on GC18GXZ for an example of my self created ones using decal transfer methods.
