  1. It may qualify you to seek find and log one of the resuscitator caches. Search for likely candidates.
  2. Yes it should have been set up so only quality challenges were set. We've all seen what happens when the masses are given an open canvas. Why too, if you view someone's profile, can you not see what challenge they have fulfilled? Once you've allowed a down-trend its difficult to regain level standards.
  3. Very few have trouble, in fact I think the original cache with the clip lock gave more problems that the replacement of unknown size. Its certainly more exciting reading the logs, but judge for yourself (the list for the series is now a little defunct now that the replacements have been placed). http://coord.info/GC2RPEH Caching is about achievement and most go away from this one feeling they have achieved something. Not sure who is getting the kisses though See 4A for a Risky Kiss
  4. I'm not for one minute suggesting hints should be done away with, I tend to use them after I've been searching for several minutes, or, if it is a muggly area, I'll look at it even before I start. But the reason for my post isn't really connected with that. It's just to say, try not to get frustrated if you can't find it, and NEVER let a DNF ruin the hobby for you. If you can't find it then just enjoy your walk to the next one, there are 99,999 more caches in the UK, far to many to get upset about not finding one of them. Last Sunday I travelled 250 miles and spent about 4 hours trying to get to a cache, without reaching it. Of course I would rather have found it, but I didn't get upset or lose any sleep over it. On the scale of horrible things that might happen, a DNF doesn't even register . Rgds, Andy Unfortunately there are so many cachers that ruin the game. Often using the hint as the first location method rather than last resort. That is exactly why I rarely add hints. Some of my latest placed K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Setter) caches do not declare size, container description or hint. This reverse psychology seems to work rather well in making seekers focus and be determined to make the find. One or two have asked for help and made return visits but generally it infuses determination. Yes there are 90000 caches in the UK but some of us get a little determined with some of them and perhaps my third visit to "Don't Leap Here Grinshill" may be made soon. One thing we must be thankful for is the flexibility of the placement guidelines, how boring it would be is every box had to be filled in a prescribed format. Individuality rules
  5. I think Groundspeak's navigation went a bit astray and put them p hit lley. Now there's a challenge touch your toes whilst bog snorkelling. Lets hope we all have some sense and never publish any and the whole thing will go away. Not what a lot of us wanted which was a quality listing arrangement on a par with earth caches. Look forward to it all being a dream...slim chance of that, fully awake and working throughout the night. I wonder how long Groundspeak would support the non-premium members if all the premium members pulled out? Wherigo, chirp, souvenirs, challenges, they are all nails in the coffin of my membership.
  6. You are assuming it was a non-premium member then! The Premium Member thing makes it one step nearer of judging who the culprit was. By viewing the audit log you will see all members that have viewed the cache page. Ooooh! What's the audit log and where do you find it? I'd love to work out who caused the demise of our Stump the Common tub cache When You Create a Premium member cache there will be a red statement at the top of the page saying THIS IS A PREMIUM MEMBER ONLY CACHE immediately under that statement is a link to the audit log. The log records all viewings of the page. If you remove the Premium only member status the log record will be lost.
  7. You are assuming it was a non-premium member then! The Premium Member thing makes it one step nearer of judging who the culprit was. By viewing the audit log you will see all members that have viewed the cache page.
  8. Not sure within the milage but look at Granville CP near Telford. Circa 32 caches others nearby.
  9. Indeed. If the preference is for a frequently-visited cache then archive it and relist as a trad. As it is those who want to do the short walk will do it and those who don't will miss out. And then there are those who, like me, will calculate the cache location without visiting any of the waypoints Often that infrequent log is more welcome than hundreds of four letter (TFTC) logs. And yes many like Alan will do their homework. Its a joy to see how enterprising some cachers are.
  10. Persevere with the multi. They all look like straight forward questions You can always monitor response and reword the cache page if you consider it necessary. Multi caches are usually slower on the uptake and three seekers probably isn't fair judgement. Have you contacted the seekers and asked what numbers they collected, to envision why they had difficulties and checked all calculations? Hang in there an perfect it
  11. There are various third party checkers personally I prefer geocheck http://www.geocheck.org/ its more flexible and gives some feedback etc. :D
  12. If the final location is not that displayed at the top of the page then it needs to be "Unknown" type. The final coordinates need to be declared to the reviewer to avoid proximity issues.
  13. Wait a few days/weeks until Clyde has implemented the Api released by Groundspeak it should all get very much easier then.
  14. If you like 'adventurous' caches check the tide tables and go for Moe's Tavern. Superb! This one was Good http://coord.info/GCGPX3 and was probably the only one I've done near the A5. A bit further north ZC caches are good but may take you some time if you do some of the series ones. Team Marzipan caches are good too.
  15. My KISS caches take a slightly different approach. http://coord.info/GC2RPEH http://coord.info/GC2TRKQ
  16. If only a few would follow Alan's routine of writing good logs and not just going for numbers. Well done Alan on excelling in all aspects of geocaching
  17. Try this Favourites to see results of the favourite points awarded.
  18. The thing that often frustrates me is what Malpas Wanderer said, namely that often you just have to be on the same wavelength as the puzzle setter, and if you're not then it can be a non-starter. I'm not particularly good a puzzles but there have been a couple that I've solved almost straight away and then found other avid puzzle solvers who found them really tricky - simply because I was seemingly on the right wavelength and they weren't. Sometimes you can find hints hidden on a cache page, sometimes googling for words or phrases on the page can help. In response to Pharisee, when I see a puzzle come up near me I'll look at it and if I can solve it in 5-10 minutes I'll do so, if I can see whats required but that it will take time then I add it to a bookmark list and might revisit it when/if I'm in the mood; if I've got no clue within the first glance then I ignore it 'cos I can't be a*sed! My latest puzzle has seen 44 teams view the page 5 have achieved geocheck success and 9 geocheck failures. 2 teams have viewed the page more than 25 times. I included the puzzle as an icebreaker as the main effort starts after that I thought the puzzle would be solved within minutes but that seems to not be the case, eventually little hints or observations will assists needy teams. What is the rush that caches have to be found within hours of publication? Its a relief to the setter when the outlay in effort and calculations are proven by that FTF
  19. With most puzzles you need to be thinking along the same lines as the setter. Not all of us will be able to solve every puzzle. There are plenty of active ones to choose from. Go and do some others you may just pick up an idea to employ on the ones you mention.
  20. Many navigation systems do that including TomTom. To a great extent they calculate in respect of the last direction you were facing.
  21. If you run PQ's that cover more than the area you are interested in thus getting the most recent data. You can then profile the exact area you require by using the GSAK polygon tool. Generate the points for the polygon and use GSAK filtering to get the type of caches you require. Soon you may be able to bulk refresh data directly within GSAK but the above is a good work around meantime.
  22. There was more; 1. Status of caches (including archived) can be updated in bulk 2. Full cache information can be "refreshed" for any record or filter of records in your GSAK database To get caches that are not already in your database you can specify a center point and grab (with limited filtering on difficulty, terrain, cache type etc) caches radiating from this center point. That is about as much as I can elaborate at the moment, so I don't want to turn this thread into a discussion about the api.
  23. Do you have more details/timescales on that? If it's soon, and it does what I want, I'll not bother to finish off this exercise. Rgds, Andy clydeGC Profile Posted: April 28, 2011 02:39 pm Quote Post Administrator ***** Group: Admin Posts: 18273 Member No.: 1 Joined: July 16, 2004 ... and I can confirm that when the Grounspeak api is publicly released (and the corresponding version of GSAK that supports it is released) you will be able to fetch any number of logs for any cache (regardless if you own it or not) I don't think Clyde will commit to timescales, but the above was his response to my slightly high-jacking a thread. I think Clyde will not delay but will not equally release before its working correctly. Regards Colin
  24. As I understand it from Clyde, once the Groundspeak API is released for use within GSAK you will be able to update unlimited number of caches from within GSAK. Looking forward to that day as yes it is very time consuming and inefficient at the moment, especially as why I run PQ's at the moment is essentially to clear archived caches out.
