  1. I was tempted to say safety as its in a cave but with a D/T of 2/2 not sure that is the justification.
  2. I would like to enquire if a forum reader would be able to help me with a stage of GCRBP2 The Magnificent Journey. The stage is located 15.5 km East South East of Paphos International (PFO) If you are able to help me it would involve finding a cache container which holds some coordinates and a hint and mailing them back to me to progress the next stage. My understanding is that when all stages have been completed both myself and all my partners may log the cache as found. That may be quite a time away as I believe there are many stages involved. I look forward to hearing if you are able to help me in this unique quest, and then will advise the details of the container to find to the suitable candidate. Regards Colin.
  3. Databases are great for pulling all your individual requirements together in one place i.e. adding notes, corrected coordinates for puzzle caches, adding child waypoints for parking only included in the description or your own defined areas. etc. All this information can easily be included in your printouts and transferred to your electronic gadgets. There would be no need to keep offline databases up to date if there was the ability to generate custom PQ's (within the current limits), selected from a database filter upon this user added criteria. There are an awful lot of caches out there, I won't get around them all and I would prefer to select those I visit by means greater than the current PQ selection criteria. So timely generated customisable PQ built from a database filter is top of my Christmas wish list Do I believe in Christmas or anyone sharing my views. Guess Christmas is truly make believe then.
  4. I try to keep a data base of my state because I travel with my laptop all over my state on a regular basis and like to grab caches as I go. It is frustrating looking for a cache and finding out that it has been unavailable or archived for a couple of weeks. My preference would be for GS to allow a PQ of caches archived within the last week. How is that for a Christmas wish? Yeah but with my system you would'nt need that. Filter the database for 500 oldest or the area you wish to visit. Create the PQ from this filter committing one of the PQ's from your allowance. Job done. The Christmas wish is just for the ability to create that PQ from the filter. or the Groundspeak TOU to permit such action. Currently you can create a PQ from a bookmark list so it should be easy enough to implement, it needs Groundspeaks sanction/implementation as would breach the present TOU.
  5. You can always create a bookmark and generate a PQ based on it. For online DB only, what I'd like are private notes and corrected coordinates stored in Groundspeak that only the person creating the log (and administrators) can view. It's been asked before, and doesn't look like it is going to happen. Bookmarks are far from the speedy reselectable alternative I suggest. It is also a pain in the rectum to remove caches one by one from a booklist once you've found the cache. No such problem with a database system, always just the caches you desire included. My system would ease the burden on Groundspeak servers, yours would increase it.

  7. Sometimes they are frustrating. Read everything very carefully.
  8. I put my geocoins out in a plastic business card holder with the sides clamped by plastic binding spine. They protect the coins well but even then kindly cachers will and do separate the parts. I'm UK based and had to buy 250 as minimum size order for about £60 or £70.
  9. Guidelines are not absolute. A final cache can be more distant.
  10. I think you misunderstand the motives. We have seen this asked before, many times. We know what the answer is and all we can do is give you the scoop and suggest the work arounds. So we are actually trying to help. Yes but there is evolution in everything. How many times since owning a computer have you found you have needed to upgrade or replace it. Is your choice limited to one model? Likewise in geocaching there are many variations of how we achieve an end and individuals will always have their preferences and rightly so should have that choice. As soon as someone makes a request for a change, there is always a profusion of comments saying it will never happen, well no unless voiced it never will. I've replied referencing one quote but many equally apply so no implicit inference to the one quoted. Lets look forward to evolving methods to suit our own individuality, it might be your work workaround or third party software that is banned next.
  11. I like to record information from solved puzzles etc. in a database. I know its frowned upon but we are in an information technology society so lets use what is available. I like to be able to search upon such recordings, the database facilitates this in a way pen and paper never will. I could greatly reduce my PQ usage if I could seed GC codes in to generate a PQ tailored from database filters upon my own added criteria. To amplify or exemplify this, there will be many puzzles listed on the GC site. Many I will never be able to solve. If I run a PQ with the Unknown cache icon set I will get every puzzle cache within the other search criteria, downloaded each time I run the PQ a great redundancy to me. I could set up a bookmark list for those that I consider I might be able to solve but I still need to database or visit each cache page to access and mark such criteria. A bookmark generated PQ might result in far less than the permitted total limit. A database initiated PQ would allow me to fill each PQ to its limit by combining several criteria and reduce the amount I submit. Could a Groundspeak representative please pick up on this and voice comment.
  12. It looks very much as if the amunition markings were left showing. When will cache setters learn to use a spray can or otherwise obliterate them? Such action is at least a step in indicating contents are not as originally intended.
  13. With 34 views and no replies think you may meed to rephrase your text to indicate what you require to do more precisely. I dont use Mapsource myself but imagine you caoul interface to the CS60 to import routes & tracks dithout too much difficulty. Not sure if Mapsource supports use of the CS60 to show actual position mapping programs such as Memory Map certainly do I'm sure someone will reply with a more direct reply when you make your needs clearer.
  14. Keep it. It will give someone oh so much pleasure when they do find it. Many of my caches don't get frequent visits but I'll study the logs more than If I was swamped with them. Have just set a really long one too just to see if anyone goes the distance for just one cache Personally I appreciate a good single cache rather than a ring. Hope its still there when I start caching nearer home in the winter months, if I can solve it that is.
  15. Hope you assessed the risk and have some life insurance for your kin to live on.
  16. Works ok for me too. Is Java up to date on your PC?
  17. Quite a few where I have posted negative logs have been archived shortly after. Many could have been made into good caches with a little effort, unsure why folk are reluctant to revise placement or thinking.
  18. Yes I too enjoy the setting process and log monitoring as much or more than the finding side. Although I've not set too many caches many of mine are set in a slightly quirky manner, which gets fewer visits but suits me just fine. My personal view is that geocaching has deteriorated with the exponential explosion of placement in recent times and I will often seek out a single cache to visit that will take me to a nice area rather than gain a large find bag that day. I certainly hate getting short "Easy find, TNLN" logs on my caches but am often guilty of writing such logs myself on the massive rings of caches that has become the more recent trend. I think all too many cachers are driven by find counts now, lets have more quality and less quantity.
  19. When you give them a nice quick sensible hide these days many can't find it GC1M9NA Don't crowd the paper logs though or I'll need to go out in the dark again.
  20. Why does someone always say "TPTB aren't changing it" before letting the TPTB answer for themselves. Pity forum contributors don't utilise their mouth like another part of the anatomy and only open it when necessary. Many of the suggestions made here would make things simpler for both users and site rescources. So why so much negativity by forum contributors, let TPAB be the first to reply in the negative, our pastime needs the possitive drive to shape things the way we desire.
  21. I don't seem able to log trackables by entering the tracking number either so imagine certain areas of the database are down. Trackables seem viewable when accessed from the cache page inventory though
  22. Well John there seems to be little response on the three forums I view. My offer at post#3 still stands. As said in that post I'm willing to take them on but maintenance will have to be structured rather than quick dashes out as I do with my local caches. Should be able to respond within a couple of weeks in most cases though. Still amazes me no one more local has responded
  23. I quite enjoyed the two parter I found for my 1100th GCY4HA and actually preferred part one over part two.
