  1. Will any of the categories or subcatergories that have been suggested by the populace be excepted and used or has the page been wiped clean? When will these catergories and subcatergories be entertained? I and many others have made bids on different catergories and subcatergories and I am just curious if they count for anything. Is there like a tally sheet being kept with who suggested what?
  2. The evolutionary process of this new expanse seems to have been detoured by an out cry of "That's not fair". I'm beginning to wonder if Waymarking is really moving forward at this level. As I see it, the little man is getting to spin his wheels all over the place and all over each other while the higher echelons take note and moves the pieces into place. I suppose that there should be a thread titled "The Race to Wait" subtitled "Spinning Your Demoncratic Wheels Without Foward Motion". I've really got to hand it to Jeremy and the rest of the staff for coming up with a swell idea. I believe that it will prove to be a great source of fun and adventure while at the same time providing a resource that goes well beyond "The Yellow Pages". So let me be the 1st to say "Thanks" for bringing Groundspeak to the next, new level of play. I believe that no matter what happens, Waymarking will go forward. You will have those of us who are willing to help build and you will have those who are ready to tear down. That's my feelings about the whole thing, if that really matters to anyone. I will not make any more post here because I don't really think that my say carries any weight. I will go back to being a spectator as before.
  3. That's the great part about this new world. These are real locations rather than a locationless or virtual. Letterboxes are somewhere else. This would open the door for Bugs to be logged at places otherwise forbidden. I also think that some locations can be setup to handle the exchange of Bugs. The Bugs can still move from Geocaching to Waymarks and back without getting trapped in one world.
  4. I like the term manager rather than owner because it takes away any "ownership" syndrome that may get in the way. We don't want personal plots to become the objective. I think the term "Guide" should be used for the one who list the waymark(s). And when we're not Guides, we can be the "Sightseers". I made a post in another thread that considers the idea of Travel Bugs moving around in this new expanse. I suggested that they be called "Tag Bugs" rather than Travel Bugs. This idea was criticized because the term "Tag" portrayed a gang activity. That's fine. Instead of calling them "Tags" then maybe the can be called "Hikers" or "Hiker Bugs". I don't see where this alludes to anything other than someone who travels, unless you think of someone who is inflating the gas prices. My suggestions are: 1. Managers 2. Guides 3. Sightseers 4. Hikers or Hiker Bugs or maybe Hitch-Hikers
  5. I like that idea Bear Paughs for the waymarks that cannot have a TB left at the location. Make it to where its just logged there. I would like to see that happen on the other side too.
  6. I don't think too many are going to subscribe to these ideas.
  7. I would have to agree with that Jeremy. Unless the location was setup to handle TBs, I would have to say "That's a No No". The only thing you could do is "Tag" the person, place or thing with a "Tag" or TB.
  8. Wouldn't the filter setting of 0 make it possible to see everything? The higher the percentage, the higher the filtering? Is that correct? Earlier today it was the other way around.
  9. Yes, I think that Travel Bugs should have the continuity of both sites. It would allow owners of Travel Bugs to actually see thier TB log sites that they weren't able to before. The advent of a new geo critter for Waymarks could be good idea. I like the idea of calling them "Tags" or "Tag Bugs". The point would be to "tag" the person, place, or thing. You know the "Tag, you're it" game? hmmmmm
  10. What about this for thought. Will you be able to log a Travel Bug at a Waymark? Since there's not really any virtual locations or locationless locations you should be able to take a Travel Bug to some of these spots so that they can get credit for the location. I can see it now. A "Where's the Beef" Travel Bug that stops at every Wendy's around the country. I like the idea. How about you?
  11. Not at all. I welcome new ideas. If you know of any ideas that folks are willing to pay for I'd be interested in hearing those too. We do, however, give quite a bit out for free which is sufficient for most geocachers. I think that the filters should be a PM bonus. I would even say that the LOC file along with the GPX file should be PM features. People are going paperless because of these features. If you keep them on the paper then they might think twice. I'm not trying to force people to pay nor do I want to sideline peoples fun. I feel that if they are serious about playing then they should be willing to pay the annual fee. I have noticed that many start out playing the game then fall away after they log a few. It seems that many make it to 50 (give or take some both ways) then stop. I hate going to a location to find that the owner of a cache has never gone back to check on his/her cache. It takes many DNF's and owner needs to visit before they even decide to go and check on it if they do that. Maybe you could limit the number of hides or Waymarks to so many before you have to pay. I think 4-5 hides for free then you have to sign up and pay the fee.
  12. I would like to be the 1st one to request the management position for Burger King. I have always wanted to have it my way. Somebody else could do Where's the Beef.
  13. I have noticed new sub-catergories being listied on the site today. Are these coming from the forum? I would like to suggest outdoor recreations as a sub.
  14. A well done A+++++++ job. Thanks for the geat graphics.
  15. What about category or sub-category suggestions? Are they still being entertained?
  16. I say we just cast lots for each category. It seems that this voting subject has grown into a vicious circle of speculations. To have a vote there must be voters (which is not the problem) and something to vote on (which is the problem). It will be impossible to appease everyone over what should and what shouldn't be. There will always be those who oppose and those who propose and those who will just ride the fence. I still think that all suggestions be entertained with a category list proposed from a condensed polling of the suggestions, afterwards we vote.
  17. We're continuing to work on new features with geocaching to campaign for new members. Many similar features (Pocket Queries, etc) will be provided as part of a PM with Waymarking as well. I read from a few different State forums on the subject of PM. A lot of the talk says that it's not really worth paying just to get PQs. The word is that there are not enough PM features to warrent a PM. That's just what I have read. I would like to see more benefits for PMs. That could encourage others to buy in if they knew they were missing out on some really cool features. Just my ideas. I hope that you don't mind.
  18. I like that list too. I think it could be a starting place. The building category could be condensed into one with subs. Some are too general thought. A great list over all.
  19. The voting thing seems to be the major problem of the forward progress. I'm glad that Jeremy thinks that we as PM should have the vote on each category, but I think that all suggestion be entertained then there be a condensed list of categories for waymarks to be listed. Maybe the Ebay taxonomy way of listing Waymark categories should be an example. I don't think that we need as many sub-categories as they do. That can be a filter feature.
  20. Is this about numbers or what? It's a POI that appeals to the individual. There is always going to be some sort of numbers abuse. Who really goes and looks at the log books in each cache to see if Joe Blow really went to the cache? It's the same thing here. If you want the title of Mr. McDonalds then blow yourself away. There is logic in log visits. If Joe live in BFE and logs every McDonalds there then starts logging all the McDonalds in BFU, which is 800 miles away, then this could raise a red flag. Most people leave a trail. It's not about the numbers, at least that's how I feel about it. I think that too many people are worried about this becoming too generic. It's not a being generic, it's about marking the way to places. There are always going to be those who are scared or offended or disturbed by change. Get out of the rut
  21. I don't think that x-numbers is the answer. I think this is a great opportunity to index places that would appeal to the interest of the whole community. It's a great idea. Think about visiting a new place in the country and you wanted to find a local Burger King, this would be the yellow pages for GPS users. It in a sense it takes away from the original and unique, but that's where the filters and categories come into play.
  22. Did you read the post pinned to the top of that forum? Yes, I have spent a few hours reading and rereading all of the post. I thought that this was the thread that we were to list suggestions for categories. Who's compiling a list of all the suggestions to be voted on? What if we were to have a category ballot. All of the suggestions were compiled then condensed, then voted on. I would be happy to take all the suggestions and compile them into a list.
  23. Why not use the same mapping software that's in use now? It seems to work well. If you are a PM then you get the functionality of all the bells and whistles. I would really like to see a campaigne for more PM. The cost of running a growing site can really hit the pockets. I know you're trying to make it for everyone, but this hobby has turned into a sport and most people will be willing to pay to play. That's just my feelings about it. Jeremy, you shouldn't have to pay the way for others. I will always be a PM no matter what and I know that there are others who feel the same way. I would just like to see more PMs. Thanks for letting the PM's have the hand in putting the Waymarks together.
