  1. In theory its possible with only a mac. If you get vmware to run on your mac, you can set up a virtual windows system inside it and them load your windows software. the best of both worlds.
  2. I usa a Ipaq 5455 with GPS tuner to locate the caches, gpxsonar to view the cache pages on my pda, and easygps on my ps. I have the conpact flash sleeve for my ipaq which has an extra battery in it. I think battery power is the big drawback with pda's. Mine's good for a days caching, even with charging in the car. I also worry about carying my expensive ipaq around in the woods, that why Im looking at getting a magellan explorist 500 or 600 for geocaching and leaving my ipaq in the car.
  3. I think we need a place to post links and information on making Geocoins. It will Benifit all of us if more groups / people make them as there will be more to collect. It would be especially helpful to find information on production of metallic geocoins at home, if this is possible. Im thinking of somehow stamping coins at home, maybe even as crudely as using a hammer and letter punch on soft metal blanks. Any thoughts out there on this ?
  4. I see explorist 400 for $229 and Explorist 500 for $319 thats $90 more for just the color screen. I havnt see that $279 price anywhere lately for the 500 model.
  5. I stiill see the price difference being $100 unless you guys are seeing better Explorist prices out there. also still have to convince the wife its a good buy :-( I have a pocket pc with gps for geocaching at the moment, but worry about tramping out in the woods and possible damaging it, dropping it , getting it wet etc. Im hoping to keep the pocket pc in the car and then use an explorist for the final on foot persuit to the cache.
  6. Mushtang's trying to Use the Force ! But you must be a true Jedi Master like Me to use it... ;-) Anyways, Make a Kiwi Happy, Kiwiruss - TeamDS
  7. From TeamDS Do we have any clues on tracking him down. email from him ? any shreds of contact info ? Im a network security administrator and would love to have a crack at tracking him. Although most things can be forged, Im betting he's not the most computer litterate person around. We are many, He is one. Lets put a name and face to this guy.
  8. I know the Explorist 500 and 600 have nice color screens, and the 600 have the compass, But for those of us who want the best bang for the buck under $300, the Explorist 300 might be the goods. Can anyone post photo's of the screens of the 400. Im particularly interested in the readibility of the screen in sunlight, and how good the backlight is. thanks in advance
  9. It would be good for congress to pass a federal law, making it a crime to take travel bugs from a geocache and holding on to it for more than 30 days.
  10. This Geocoin would be the first "Team" Geocoin in my beginners collection.
  11. On the road I use Ipaq 5455 Pocket PC with Destinator 3 street routing software / gps tuner GPS tuner out of the car. My ipaq has the cf expansion sleeve with the extra battery and my gps is a haicom cf model. cant get cache points in destinator though....
  12. I have a pocket pc setup , but thats not entry level and costs $$$$. Im looking at a magellan Explorist 400 model which will be availble next month (may) for a little under $250. Its mono screen (clolr screen 500 model is $100 more !) but has an sdcard slot, geocaching mode, backlite screen, lion rechargable battery, cable for pc connection and downloading maps and waypoints. etc... same as explorist 500 cept for mono screen.
  13. Yes, I have two of the mi geocoins already. They are nice. (also have two of the usa2005 geocoins)
  14. what about, "pocket rocket" or "Blazin Beemer"
  15. True, Mosts sticks are fine. But if you wrap anything around, like tape or string on the handle, then the law see it as a weapon. kiwiruss 3rd Degree Black Belt, Instructor, Weapons Judge - ATA American Taekwondo Association (www.ataonline.com) Geocaching as 1/2 of TeamDS
  16. I love my Ipaq 5455. Admittedly it can be a little buggy as its loaded with power, 64MB RAM 802.11b bluetooth fingerprint scanner consumer IR with Nevo remote control software - and I've added CF plus expansion pack with extra battery for my cf gps 1gb sd card for gpstuner and destinator For true geeks its a must, if your not supa-geeky then it can be challenging to get it all working right. I do still miss my old palm III from a few years back , but thep ocket pc's the way fo the future.
  17. Im getting that same error, The Travel Bug you requested does not exist in the system I emailed Groundspeak and usgeocoins to get it fixed. thanks
