  1. Yes - I'll post when it's no longer available.
  2. Well, it was our first GPS too and it worked well for us We used it almost entirely for geocaching. Secondarily it was mounted on our BMW GS motorcycle handlebars and was used for navigation and for the accurate speedometer. It can be configured to display data in large numbers, and motorcycle speedometers are notoriously inaccurate. It doesn't have a color screen, which some of the more expensive models have. We didn't find this to be a problem though. It's also the model from its time with the larger amount of memory which is pretty essential.

  4. We leave tomorrow for three days in Amsterdam - our favorite city - before we set off to other parts European. I was excited by a previous topic listing some incredible sounding caches, and each one I looked up was archived! Sad state of affairs. We've got a great travel bug to drop off, not to mention our monkey in a fez, and clip to mount the GPS to bicycle handlebars. We're ready to go! We're also pretty useless with anything but basic Dutch translation, so a few caches with English write-ups would be oh-so-perfect. I changed our profile to our hotel on Slotermeerlaan, but the search for nearby caches isn't picking up the location properly. Thanks in advance!
  5. could you describe it more? did you get a picture?
  6. great! i'm keeping track of who said what and will contact folks once a few days' worth of responses have accumulated and i get a more coherent idea of how to pull it off. feel free to brainstorm meetups or whatever here in this thread though.
  7. thanks for your concern! i think your post has been limited by some assumptions you've been making. i'm in close contact with the person who created the travel bug, we're working together on this. so, all is good with them, worry not. i'm glad you "discourage" posting across mutiple regions, but you're closure of my thread in this board goes beyond that - it's more like prohibiting such action. i'm a long, long time vetran of message boards and can do an excellent job managing positive responses and taking them to an email thread i'll establish away from this forum. as there isn't all that much time left to make this happen, it's actually terribly prudent to network a lot in the front end. i'm sorry you feel otherwise, but would appreciate a little consultation before you make assumptions that lead you to squelch conversations started by other people. everything in moderation, including moderation, eh?
  8. as for must-see caches, i really like "shoots & ladders" which is a convenient walk from "wood over iron". OK, OK, these are the only caches we've done, but the former is in a spot in SF that i know very well and truly adore.
  9. hi folks. we've got a travel bug that we're trying to move eastward, next stop planned was to be the tahoe area. all this snow (which i love to ski on!) is making that unlikely. the bug has a goal of being back in a cache in NH by june, it's part of a fellow cacher's project for the 5th grade class she teaches. we already have a back-up plan of just mailing the bug back, but i'd *adore* being able to arrange quick stops in some caches along the way. unfortunately this would have to be organized rather than relying on happenstance to enable the bug's desired commute from the current blue state across a sea of red states and back to a blue again. i imagine that it'll have to be mailed at some point. at the very least, i 'd like to mail it to a cacher in NH to put it back in the "powder house" cache for retrieval. ideally we can plan a series of cache drops for the next 8 weeks to get her home that's more in line with the spirit of travel bugs. anyone on board to help? she's in san francisco now. we could do an in-person hand off or quickly leave it back in "wood over iron" for retrieval. it looks like tahoe (tahoe city/truckee) is going to be out of play for a few more weeks. i'm set to get reply notification.

  14. we'll be in truckee this thursday and friday and want to move the travel bug nessie eastward. the important thing is to find a cache that can hold a small stuffed animal (nessie) and is findable in winter. we're able to XC ski in to a location and dig in the snow if we can find the exact spot.
