  1. You see a DNF as that, I see a DNF as that, but that doesn't prevent others logging a DNF because they couldn't drive right to the cache. Again, where is the standard for logging a DNF that will be used to determine cache condition? "Considering people (reviewers and cachers alike) will use that information to form an opinion on the condition of that cache and whether or not they're going to attempt it, it seems relevant that they understand that I did meet those specific requirements." Do you read the logs or just count the number of DNF before you form your opinion? Does the CHS read the logs or just count the DNF before it forms an "opinion"? I got into the discussion back when it was about the CHS making the determination about cache condition, now it seems to have changed to reviewers and cachers making the determination. I'm happy to argue the pros and cons of something but arguing an agenda I don't have time for.
  2. In someone else's opinion it's a DNF so who is correct? There is no standard only guidelines, how is the CHS going to accurately measure a metric that has no standard?
  3. And this is where the problem is at, some people search for 30 minutes before logging a DNF, some log a DNF when they can't get within 500 feet of GZ. If this was on my list and a D1.5 I would bypass it, as a D3 I would make it a point to search for it. I do maintenance spring and fall for all my caches at the same time, it wouldn't matter if the last find was a day before.
  4. Thanks, I got most of it but wanted to make sure. Does my reply through Google make sense, Quel est le numéro de bug de voyage? Je vais voir que c'est le mien. Si vous l'avez trouvée dans une mémoire cache et que celle-ci n'a pas été consignée comme supprimée, vous pouvez la consigner comme "saisie" pour indiquer que vous l'avez en votre possession.
  5. I received this through the message center, bonjour voila mon probleme j ai recupere un tb dans une de mes caches au cour d une maintenance et le geocacheur n a pas enregistrer la depose que faire j ai enmener le tb en Espagne pour le faire voyager et de retour en France je compte le deposer dans une autre cache suffisament asser grande ayant enregistre son passage sur les caches faites en Espagne les distances ne lui sont pas attribuees car il est toujours dans les mains de dsk le geo qui l a deposer dans ma cache peut on regler ce probleme merci pour la reponse geoamitiees BERDAB 51 FRANCE Google translates this into a TB concern but I'm still not positive of the question. Can someone here translate or should I take this to the French speaking forum?
  6. What kind of information do you need to export to Excel? If the cache code and name will suffice GPSBable can convert the GPX into a tab delimited csv that can be sorted in Excel. If you need all the information in the GPX I think GSAK is your only choice. If you try the GPSBabel method set the input file format to GPX XML and the output to Garmin Mapsource - txt (tab delimited). There are several formats that I've not tried but I know what I listed is a quick way to come up with sorted cache codes and names.
  7. Humor the old man OK? I realize the pointer makes things easier but there are times I purposely make things more challenging just to keep the brain cells active. I've used the GPSr satellite screen and the cache coordinates written in my pocket notebook to log 90% of my finds, calculating the bearing as I go. The Montana works good for this as both coordinates are on the screen, it prevents transposing numbers into my notebook which has happened. Navigating to the cache is my priority, signing the log is just a bonus. That said, my next challenge is to log a find with a sextant. I've already ordered an inexpensive practice model but I PROMISE I won't ask any sextant questions here Thanks all!
  8. I'm not using the compass arrow so I need to know the coordinates of the cache in order to travel in the right direction. Don't ask, it's a bit like my caching with a compass, topo map, and a 1:24000 map ruler.
  9. Thanks for the link, so much for that idea.
  10. Possibly not a coincidence. Out of 41 trackables I have 14 still accounted for, of those 14 the only ones making any kind of real movement are in Europe and Canada.
  11. My Montana gets a bit cumbersome when bushwhacking for any distance so I thought I would break out my Etrex 20. On the Montana I have the pointer dashboard disabled to avoid wandering like a drunken pirate and use 4 data fields instead, cache code, distance to destination, location, and location of destination. I have the Etrex set up the same with the exception of location of destination, which I can't seem to find. Before I spend too much time on this can anyone verify the Etrex 20 does not support this data field? If anyone has successfully used this field on an Etrex 20 could I get a hint of what it's named? Thanks!
  12. All I've seen in this thread are pro and con opinions of the idea based on personal experience, if I missed where GS has dismissed the idea my apologies.
  13. WTH? Just because you've not seen it means you don't believe it could be possible somewhere else? The majority of cachers I know speak Spanish, is that true in your area? If not then you don't believe me?
  14. I consider myself to be in a low density area and wondered what a "real" low density area looked like, so I did a 100 mile search around Kuala Lumpur as well as my location. What a surprise! Taking into account caches owned by the OP and myself Kuala Lumpur has 26 fewer caches in the OP's radius than mine in Texas, 26 caches! When I started this game I realized there was a lack of caches and knew I would have to take that into account. I was (unintentionally) able to complete the last few promotions because I accepted the challenge and figured out a way to get it done myself without any special consideration. BTW, I looked at the Geocaching.my Facebook page and if I were a new cacher some of the comments would make me have second thoughts, far from positive and encouraging.
  15. I forgot to mention, unless there have been recent changes you can get the Google API from Google at no cost. Even the paid version is reasonable, 100,000 map loads a month for $7, at my busiest I've never gone above 300 map loads.
  16. I use mob-rule to plan all my road trip routes and was a little dismayed to see the site had fallen prey to Google. Since I have a personal Google API key I contacted the mob-rule site owner and a few days later he replied with instructions on how to use my API key. After adding my key per his instructions all is well again.
  17. Thanks all, these have been in place for a while so I won't be going the reviewer route.
  18. I'm sure some have done this, is it a matter of only changing the cache type or does it require archive and resubmit? I'm out today to finish my six month cache check that I didn't finish yesterday so it will be this evening before I'm back, thanks in advance.
  19. I just ran an ad hoc PQ on the caches I own, three of which I know contain a trackable. After the PQ ran the the "preview" page shows three caches contain trackables, but when I download and look at the GPX file it contains no trackables. It would be nice if GS would at least acknowledge there is an issue.
  20. I started another thread before I realized that this one existed so I'll move the conversation here. I can also confirm the text is being selected as I can paste after making the invisible selection. There appears to be inconsistency with this, on the example that The A-Team gave I cannot make a selection, but it works fine for me on the log pages where others above are reporting problems. Now that I know text is actually being selected I can make it work but this is sure annoying. FireFox 62.0.2 on Windows 10 64 bit.
  21. If you don't mind see if you can select text on your settings page, maybe it's just something on my machine.
  22. I don't use IE but might try it and see, I suspect it is just going to add to what is currently there. I'm just wondering what's going on with the settings page.
  23. I use the FSG macro to generate stats to paste into the "about" section of my GC profile information page. This has worked fine in the past but today I discover I can't select text on any of my setting pages either by dragging or ctrl A, I can select text on any other GC page. In order to paste the new information I first have to delete the old by hitting ctrl A, the delete button, then paste the new information. I got this accomplished today by using the delete key to delete the old information line by line, but with 4227 lines of code this was a royal pain. What's up with the web page?
  24. I'm on a road trip and noticed this behavior early this morning. On the search page if I enter GC56VYB it gives me the usual choices, search a ten mile radius of the cache or view this specific cache. The intent was to search a radius but when this was chosen it took me to a ten mile radius of my home location which is 600 miles away. After three tries with the same incorrect results I had to switch back to the old map to get correct results.
