  1. I've got a caching friend that runs GSAK on a Chromebook using an app called Crossover, I believe he said it was free.
  2. Since you are battling this and even bothered to ask the question I suspect you already know what you need to do
  3. What happens if something happens at the cache location and the container has to be moved 150' in another direction, who will update the coordinates on the web page? If no one does here's another wild goose chase cache with bad coordinates. It's normal to get attached to things that are familiar but sometimes it's better to let the old and worn out go in order to let something better (hopefully) take it's place. Edit to add: If a cache is archived it doesn't take away from a person's total hide count.
  4. I'm sure your intentions were good when you left the lock and lock but who is now responsible for maintaining that new container, contents, and web page? Remember that maintaining the web page is also part of the CO responsibility. I would have logged a NM or possibly a NA and let the process begin, if the CO cared they would do something about their cache, if they didn't care or no longer active it will eventually get archived with that spot opened up to for a potentially responsible CO to place a cache. There are a lot of caches that are being propped up when archival would allow a new cache to be placed.
  5. I was just going back through caches I've found this year and this one continues to stand out, GC1K7JZ.
  6. Add another layer to the map and upload the geocache to it, I do this quite often for trip planning.
  7. The requirement comes from the originators of Earthcaches, https://www.geosociety.org/GSA/fieldexp/EarthCache/guidelines/home.aspx
  8. I take it you didn't read the link arisoft provided that explains using a coordinate system other than the one authorized by the Chinese government is illegal? If you are asking GS to provide you with a pop-up that prompts you to use an illegal map source I don't think they are about to jump right on that. Before ending up in a Chinese prison I would suggest you do a little research on the laws of the country you are visiting.
  9. I noticed the log mentioning the offending log sheet as well. This is right off my route but I think I'll avoid this one and let the local community deal with it.
  10. I'm planning a trip to northern MN next year and came across this cache along my route. Was a traditional with no log allowed at some point in time? This is a first for me.
  11. If you add "YB", without the quotes, in the blank County update box near the bottom of your load settings dialog box it will update the county column when you import your PQ, there is no need to run the county update macro.
  12. It takes personal responsibility and integrity to clean up after yourself without being told to, if someone doesn't have that by the age of 18 they will probably never have it. If a person were to find a way to entice someone with no personal responsibility to suddenly have it 95% of the world's problems would be solved, I too would be interested in a mechanism to suddenly make 300,000 people become responsible.
  13. The way this game is already "gamed" I foresee the following would happen. The CO would choose NO putting the responsibility off on the next cacher who would log a find and leave the container for the next cacher, then the next, and so on until the cache became "community maintained" trash. Then there is the fact that some cachers will log the LTF but still leave the container behind. It's a good idea but you're not looking at the fact that adding a number to their find count is the only thing some people care about and will help their like minded friends do the same.
  14. Honesty and integrity, as long as you make a trade with those in mind who could find fault in your trade? Simply asking the question tells me that you know what an even trade is, feel free to trade three items in my cache for one of yours, sometimes value doesn't mean monetary value.
  15. I've been trying to complete two new caches and became so frustrated I had to go relax and mow the grass. GS should consider something like a staggered schedule where an engineer(s) is working on the weekend?
  16. Since you're using GSAK you should try the TranslateCaches macro, it translates the cache page and you load the translated GPX to your GPS. I've used it several times to translate GPX files for a fellow cacher and it seems to work fine, the translation isn't 100% but it's no worse than Google. You do have to get a free Yandex API key and add it to the macro but that's a simple process.
  17. I thought the OP did a great job of walking a person through the problem, if you read the cache page. From the answers he received I suspect what the cachers in question are actually saying is "I'm too important to put any time or effort into this but I want credit regardless". I applaud the OP's decision not to remove the questions as this game as been dumbed down enough as it is, just curious where GS would stand if it went that far.
  18. If it wasn't for the 20 hour flight to get to the ferry I would gladly go after that EC. I've got a several week trip planned for October along the gulf coast of Texas and Louisiana then up through Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas. With 77 Earthcaches on my list I'm bound to log at least one that weekend.
  19. There are times you have to take initiative and do some research on your own rather than standing by and waiting for someone to hand the answers to you. Before I paid for premium I researched everything I could, if it took you more than a week to discover the benefits you weren't putting much effort into it, https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=132&pgid=175
  20. Apologies, been in the mountains but thanks for the research. Who knows, it's been almost 30 years but I know we were required to report the location of an item hourly in UTM not MGRS . No matter, for the moment Geocaching is about minutes to three decimals. I understand we're not landing something on Mars but when the number of digits displayed on the GPSr don't match what GS lists without adding, subtracting, or ignoring I get the impression "good enough" is in action. Maybe Galileo will display minutes to four decimals but until GS lists four decimal caches, .123 is not the same number as .1234. As a consumer looking at coordinates GS has published and comparing those to navigational devices I've purchased for more than $30 a year do I still have to decide whether to round-up, round-down, or shake it all about? It's not about precision or accuracy, it's about numbers matching, something you can glance at and say "yep, same number".
  21. I never implied that it be used in a caching application or it was a consumer item. I was merely pointing out the method I was taught in 1991 that I still use today, and that comparing a screen with 4 decimals to a page with 3 decimals can cause an error. If you come across the specifications for a SLGR let me know the UTM precision, I'm leaving for a road trip in a few hours and a bit busy.
  22. I was stopped caching around Terlingua ranch about two years ago and it WAS at gunpoint. Another problem with his caches is I think word has gone out that these are unattended and a free for all. Coming back from OK around the first of the month I had to go through the area and decided to try 10 caches along my route. There were logs from May of this year back through 2018 with no mention of any problems, the last logs were eight paragraph dissertations that made no mention of the caches but did mention the "finder" had learned about this PT at Geowoodstock. Even though there were several online logs, of the caches that did contain logs none had been signed since early 2017. I like chasing down lonely caches and bogus online logs throw a wrench in that game play.

    Trackable

I was surprised by the number of cachers I've crossed paths with over the last 6-8 months that thought this was the way the trackable game was played, hold on to it as long as you want as long as you log visits, most said it was the way "someone" told them the game was played. I added a link to the trackable guidelines on all my trackable pages at least a year ago but that doesn't seem to have any effect.
  24. V9.0 had a problem with automatic updates that was fixed in later patches. You will have to manually download 9.0.0.2 to fix the updates, https://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=34395
