  1. Just got back a replacement 76csx from Garmin....noticed today that there is no bearing pointer on the compass. Hitting "MENU" shows Bearing Pointer, I click enter and nothing happens. Anyone? Thanks.
  2. Talked to tech support, got an RMA and going back tomorrow. I was having to press and hold it for a long time, and sometimes nothing...they said to send it in. Did any of you notice if the power switch feels as firm as the other buttons when pressing it?
  3. I just took out the 76csx, having not used it for a couple of months and I noticed the on off button was not responding. I had to press it a few times and hold it for about 5 seconds. I also noticed that the button itself is not as firm when pressed like the others, it is also about half the height when viewed from the side. Can someone please confirm this on their 76csx. Looks like I'll have to send it in for repair, not quit a year old yet. Thanks.
  4. Um, sorry about that....you are right. It was opening the other ver....well, I guess that is to be expected...in a beta.
  5. No problem with it here... just the new icons...so it looks like an update in firmware mgiht solve that one. Could you post a screen shot of the celestial info dialog box? My MapSource does nothing when I select it. hmmm, my celestial doesn't do anything either on the Beta... I did notice that it left the old version (pre-beta) loaded and the old one pops up as a default on double clicks.. Screen Shot

  7. Dropped it on, but says there are no points! Yet, I can open in Mapsource no porblem.
  8. I saved them as "gpx" in Mapsource. IN GE is used "gps" in the ddrop down.
  9. I tried using some gpx waypints with GE...does not seem to work. I can do a search with addresses and it is fine. But to open a gpx file - nothing. What am I missing? Thanks.
  10. Not that "old"....it says it was posted on their site 12/7/06..
  11. Did an update this am for MapSource, instead of 6.9 ver. , it is downloading ver. 6.11.6.0; posted on 12/7 on their site.
  12. After upgrading to ver. 2.90 the other day, I went out today to do a few trails. Unit turned on....ok....but, all the MapSource maps were gone! I walked a few miles and it appeared to be working; adding a few POI's along the way. Got home a few mins. ago to check what I had....not much. My 76csx did not record the full track...only about a half mile; it did have the POI's. but no tracks!!! I just uploaded a map of my state only...checked and it is on. I am going to try it the first thing in the am and see if it will record my track. Any ideas on this one? Thanks.
  13. Got the pieces at GPSCity http://www.gpscity.com/gps-mount.htm
  14. I have been using this set up for the last few years; with a MeriPlat and now with a 76csx. I have never had a problem. It stayed on on summer through the hot and humid weather on trips down the coast and into GA...and New England winters. I really do not think you can go wrong. Also, the wuick release, as shown with the 76csx, it is a great item to have also on the RAM system...quick release, to tuck away when parked. or to pass to the passenger co-pilot.
  15. When you initially select all your waypoints for conversion to a point the next window asks you to select a type...click cancel...this will allow you to use the icons you have assigned to your trail in Mapsource. If you select a type at this point you assign the same icon to every point...as happened to you. email me your .mp file and I will take a look at what you have.... cf-700 at hotmail dot com Um, when you say "add to it" is it that simple, just bring in the poi's and tracks...and re-complie? I do not have to click the tracks and convert to polyline, then the poi's etc? I just tried the simple adding, but it did not work, thanks. Thanks for all the help.... the map I have doen so far is working fine... I will try again this week after I get a few more tracks. Thanks! Thanks....that seems to work. Next question....is there any way to add tracks, POI's as needed to an already created map without having to work the whole map all over again? Sure...just open your previous mp file...add to it...save it...recompile it Um, when you say "add to it" is it that simple, just bring in the poi's and tracks...and re-complie? Yes you have to convert the newly added tracks/waypoints to polylines/points....plus any other editing you desire...but nothing more has to be done with your previous stuff.

  20. I have a trail that I am working on, however, in addition to a parking spot, I also have several trails heads, and a few other points marked. When I click the icon for parking in the exercise, I get the parking icon ok, but, I also get the parking icon for all other points, I clicked these points, did a MODIFY, TYPE and selected my icons. At this point I am missing something...the map I got, just had the waypoint number, but no icons. The parking spot had the correct icon. Any ideas please? Thanks.
  21. Opps, found my error.... I had "cgpsmapper" in the root folder and not in the sub folder of MAPS. Looking at the top of the directions, it states to put a copy of "cgpsmapper in this folder", which I read as GPS..but the command has me in MAPS...that was my clue. Am I correct?
  22. At the DOS prompt after I enter the "cgpsmapper pv map_pv.mp" line and hit enter I get a message that cgpsmapper is not a recognized command or batch file. I put a copy of "cgpsmapper.exe" in the gps folder. Ideas? Thanks.
  23. Took my 76csx out for a workout today...in the Boston area. I was getting 48, but not 35 or 51 today. I have had 48 and 51 in the past. Had 9-10 birds at all times with almost full bars across. Dead on for geocaches today!
  24. I have a 76csx, it is great, nothing like the MeriPlat I used to have...keeps a lock on the birds even in heavy tree cover.
  25. Somewhat similiar situation: I had a flashlight, the one that you shake, no batteries... threw it in the bag...later found my cell phone stuck to it! It does not appear to have effected the phone...close! Just was not thinking...
