  1. First off, I am not sure if this is the proper spot for this. I will post it here and Let the power be take it from there. Is there a way when one clicks a link in a thread that it could open a new tab or window? Rather than having to leave the page that your on. It is like that on every other forum I am on. I hate navigating away from the page that I am on.
  2. I have had this same issue....... my avatar showing on someone else's account.......
  3. I had this same issue. You first want to make sure that GLONASS is ON, then you want to navigate to SETUP>ROUTING, Then make sure it is set to make routes for Pedestrian, lock on road is set to OFF.
  4. Ok, so I have done the pocket query as suggested - many thanks for that. What I now have is a 590KB gpx file and a 11KB -wpts.gpx file So am I just transfering both files in the folder of my Garmin? Yes you need both files drag and drop to the Garmin folder on your GPSr.
  5. Has to be UN-ZIPPED Just ask that is what we are here for. I am no where near an expert. Just know enough to get my self in trouble ......
  6. A little out of order but hope they help.
  7. OK to get it d to your GPSr once you have made it , is do down load it to your computer and un-zip it then Place resulting *.gpx files into Garmin/GPX folder on your Oregon. Click on my computer , look for your connected GPSr
  8. Best ? I can NOT answer. I can tell you that I just upgraded to an eTrex 20 from the Venture HC (broke it). I does do paper-less caching and does it well. There is a know issue with the current firmware and loading a PQ OVER 2mb's in size. Though you can load several PQ's all under 2 MB and achieve the same thing. I would suggest that you go to your local sporting goods store and try a few in your hands and see how they feel in your hand. A friend of mine has a Magellan Explorist gc and it does support that feature. Thought I can NOT get the software to load on MY pc but he has it installed on his.
  9. Here is another good link to have http://support.Groundspeak.com/
  10. There are a few different ways. !st would be make a Pocket Quriey ( http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/ ) ( http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm ). Second would be to connect your GPSr to your computer go to the cache page and use the "send to GPS button"
  11. As an eTrex 20 owner I can tell you that there is a known bug in the current firmware that limits the size of the PQ to about 2mb's. Garmin is aware of the problem and working on a fix.
  12. I had the same update yesterday and it did nothing beneficial for my PQ issue, nor did it change the version number. baker It is a language update.....
  13. OK then let me ask this. If you follow this path (setup>tracks>color>) on a 20 and I am guessing a 30 as well, what do those color lines change ?
  14. OK I stand corrected. You can not change the color of that line.
  15. Red this is a known issue with the last FW update for the new Etrex's.
  16. Thats my issue! Do you know if in GSAK you can change the file size? It's really annoying to use 2MB as a max file size. Saw a post that Garmin is aware of issue but I am also wondering if it will take days or weeks or months to fix. Also does anyone know how to downgrade software on the etrex yet? Someone mentioned on this board about adjust file size w/ GASK. I do not use it so I do not know. With these being new units, I am guessing days. We will all post when it becomes available. If there is I do NOT know how. Though I have done little searching.
  17. Found this thread right here on the forums. I think it might help you.
  18. OK Duncan I down load the PQ right click the .gpx and the wpts.gpx file right to the device using it as a mass storage deice. No I have not disconnected it, but I have not loaded them all at the same time. So Yes you could consider it a disconnect between each file transfer. I am sorry about the misunderstanding about GSAK. I thought I read you could split down the files size. I guess that is not the case. I do not use it. Nor do I use base camp. I have been working right with the unit and the PC (Windows 7 X64). Any further questions I will do what I can t answer them.
  19. WinterTime, and I as well understand what your saying. Maybe I was not clear. My unit would hang at that same screen right after I loaded a PQ that was about 4mb in size. I yanked the batteries and the unit loaded just fine. Except there were no caches listed. I removed the .gpx file and loaded a smaller one and it loaded just fine.
  20. The problem is that I'm going away for 3-5 days to 2 different areas and I want some flexibility whilst away to enable do several different walks if I wish. I exported a GPX file for each area but the smallest was over 4mb and the largest approached 9mb (it included area1 and some of the journey between the 2 areas). As far as I can see the only way to take all this data with me would be to split it into <2mb files and have each split file on a different SD card. Am I wrong about this? I find it hard to believe that there's no facility in the software to select the GPX file that gets loaded at startup - it seems like an obvious piece of functionality. So what your saying is that if you have more than 2.1 mb of data on it it won't load at all ? I have loaded several PQ's on to my 20 totaling close to 2500 caches, just in steps. I believe, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, That GSAK with split the files down to size needed. My 20 claims that it has 1.7 gig of internal storage, plus a 2gig micro sd card.
