  1. Using the geocaching app on my I-phone, when I try to navigate, the compass works but the map feature doesn't. It says that as of July 11, 2016 direct tile access has been discontinued. I went to their site and apparently I have to add the MapQuest app. I did this and it works, but the map feature with the geocaching app doesn't. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix this? thanks,
  2. Hadn't tried using my smartphone for pocket queries before. Just did. It worked great for getting the cache info but when I went to use the map for navigation I get a screen that says "Map Quest - Developer. As of Juy 11, 2016 direct tile access has been discontinued. So it doesn't give me a map to follow. Any help with this?
  3. pocket queries are just a GPX file. if the unit can import gpx files, and display them, it will work fine. if it doesn't, poof. or you could use a smartphone, for all of it. I'm guessing that since you're asking about two devices to do one task though, youre not interested in one device to rule them all.
  4. My Nuvi 550 has been stolen. Need a new portable GPS for my car. I use it to navigate to the caches, then find tune with my Garmin GSMap handheld. What GPS's will allow pocket query downloads?
  5. Thanks for all the responses. I don't actually geocache with my i-pad. I use both my Garmin GPS unit in the car that I have downloaded cache info for and my Garmin 60CSx in the field. What I use the i-pad for is when we are in an area that we haven't previously downloaded caches for. I like the bigger size while sitting in the car and use the app to look for caches in the area. I can then just input the various coordinates in the 60CSx. I like the quick easy of the app better than going through the regular website, just like the larger screen size compared to my phone. I will go ahead and bite the bullet for the cost and try it on the i-pad.
  6. I have one of the new i-pads with 4G capability through Verizon. When I go to the apple app store, I see the geocaching app available for the i-phone but not the i-pad. Does anyone know if the app for the phone with work on the i-pad? Don't mind paying the price -- I currently use the geocaching app on my android tablet and my android phone and have not had any problems with it -- but want to make sure it will work before downloading and paying for it. Thanks,
  7. That's was my error. You're right there isn't an application; I think I was just so frustrated I was grabbing at straws. After thinking more clearly about what I said, I realized I needed to talk with a tech about my computer. So, I actually managed to resolve with the GeekSquad today. When my hard drive was replaced, apparently the monitor contract/brightness changed and I was unable to see any grey text or icons. Thus I was unable to see the sliding bars or the icons in the attributes boxes. thanks everyone for their responses.
  8. Thanks for your response. I will now contact Best Buy who I have on contract to solve these types of issues for me. I'm thinking first I will remove the Groundspeak application and reinstall. Perhaps I didn't install the right version after the hard drive crashed. Gail
  9. Tried Firefox. Didn't work either. Went to my brother's computer. He is running Windows Vista Service Pack 2, and I think IE8. It works on his computer. Therefore, I'm thinking it must be a Windows 7 issue. I have a request into Groundspeak as well as the forum, so perhaps someone knows???
  10. Still works for me as well - not sure what may be happening with you. What Browser? OS? Versions? I'm using Google Chrome; however I just went back to regular Internet Explorer and tried again following the instructions from Groundspeak support for creating a route. On the first screen that shows the route, I change the search radius to 1/2 mile and say "save the route" Then when I select "create pocket query", it does not allow me to make changes to the search radius (which has now gone to 3.11 mi) or to the show Me # of caches (which is 500). It does allow me to make changes to type of cache and other options. Interesting though, I just noticed it doesn't show any attributes to include or exclude. Hmm, seems like I must have a software issue going on. I am using Windows 7 and IE 9. IE9 might be the issue; I lost my hard drive recently and when it was redone, the tech must have installed IE9. I still have a previous version of IE on my laptop and I have Firefox. I'll try both those places and see if I can solve my problem.

  12. Last year when creating a query for a route, I was able to limit the number of caches and the search area along the route, i.e. traveling Hwy. 5, but only want 75 caches and no more than 1/2 mile from the highway. I can't seem to be able to do that now -- it defaults to 3 miles from the route and 500 caches. Am I doing something wrong?
