  1. I got two emails yesterday from someone named suenpete and it said the following: You should be aware that geocaches are often located on private and public property without proper permission. Groundspeak has no way of verifying that proper permission has been obtained. Instead they rely on "adequate" permission asserted by the hider of the cache. There have been a number of instances where geocachers have been detained by law enforcement. Some have even been arrested. Recently there have been several of instances where property owners have come to the forums to alert geocachers to caches placed on their property without their permission. Before you continue in this hobby you should contact Groundspeak about the legalities of geocashing. Has anyone else received this email I have just checked out the username and it says that suenpete is a banned user, so how has he got my email address and wtf is it all about anyway. I would have thought everyone already understood the requirement for permission to place a geocache.
  2. Ah I've done it. The old application version 3 gets placed into the recycle bin when it got updated to the version 4. All I did was remove version 4 from my iphone and also my itunes. I then moved the old version 3 from my recycle bin and placed it on my desktop. I then opened itunes and dragged the older version from my desktop straight into my itunes library and then synced my iphone. Hey presto, version 3 back on my iphone. Thank god for that.
  3. I'm now officially fed up with the many faults of the updated geocaching Iphone app and have now reverted to using paper again alongside my gps unit. Its just not fun or helpful now to take my iphone out caching with me. Is there any way I can revert to the older iphone application and get rid of this updated piece of crap. Thanks
  4. I did a series of caches at the weekend and the description said that there were a herd of friendly cows on the way but don't worry they just follow you around. These so called friendly cows spotted me approaching from 500 feet away from there field and came bounding over to the fence. I hate cows so decided to walk the length of the fence and get around the back of them as they were only "dumb" grass eating animals and there little brain power would not be able to figure out what I was up to. Hey guess what these dumb grass eaters followed me all around the perimeter. Now I could see the cache location in the middle of the field so wasn't going to be defeated by these bovine and started to hit my stick against the fence and shout at them to show them who was boss. This worked on 29 of the thirty cows as they ran off, but the 30th cow stood its ground and actually stamped her front feet at me which made the others stop in there tracks and they came back to this single brown cow standing guard. I was mega fed up that the last cache of the series was there in the middle of the field and my day would fail due to these four legged burgers on legs standing guard. An hour passed and they just kept following me around the perimeter so I gave up and started walking down the field. They followed me until I reached the woods and with me out of sight they went over to the other end of the field. Aha I thought, so I sneaked back up through the woods hidden out from there view, across the top field and over to the stile that gets you in there field. Right its now or never, so I ran over to the post in the middle of the field where the cache was at, but as I was running I saw the cows had spotted me and had started to run back up the field. I reached the post but knew I had no chance of getting the tightly rolled up log book out in time to sign it and put it back before the cows got to me. That was it I was outta here, I legged it back across the field with thirty cows in hot pursuit. They were gaining on me and my heavy backpack was holding me back and I had no other choice but to dive over the fence when I reached it. I believe that all the trouble I went through to get this cache in my hand I had the right to claim it as a "found it" even though I had no chance to sign the log. I honestly think that companies using guard dogs should now use cows to protect there properties as these were some very tenacious and menacing little buggers. They seemed like a bunch of nutters, all cows were dairy cows but they all seemed super horny and many of them kept on mounting each other. Made me giggle to myself that I had found a field of lesbian cows. Friendly cows my arse.
  5. Thanks Dave, I'll check them out now mate. I myself am now addicted to this great sport after finding it by accident trawling through Iphone apps. I in my short period have found 57 caches, have upgraded to a premium account and also a garmin gps60csx. The sport has given me a new avenue to follow after suffering massive injuries in my last sport. I was looking for something that kept me fit and mentally interested and this seems to fit the bill so far. It allows me to spend more time with my family also whereas my last sport didn't. Its great and seems to tick all the boxes. Obviously with all forums there always seems to be some politics but I cant understand why someone wouldn't want there caches listing. I mean why bother planting them in the first place. Thanks again Dave and MrsB for your help. Appreciated. Lee
  6. Does the site owner have the necessary permissions to replicate the cache data. I would like my data removed from the site without delay, or discussion. It was me that asked for help at the top of the page for series cahes for me, the wife and my kids to find. I don't know about any history on here as to previous arguments etc, but as a newbie I can't understand why anyone would want there series removing from this link. Surely the more information spread like this only goes to reinforce my newfound hobby and strengthen in general the sport of geocaching. But like I say I'm a newbie and what do I know.
  7. Thanks MrsB I'm new to this and do appreciate your help. Thanks alot.
  8. Hi all, The wife wants to come with me next weekend caching and has said she wants to go somewhere like the manifold valley etc and do some caches that take in fields, paths and the odd village for a pub lunch/ cafe on the way. I've had a look around but thought I'd ask some of you guys if you knew some nice walks. Are there any good series caches around that start and finish where we have parked. Shes been with me before and certainly doesn't mind doing a 10 mile walk. A good experience will hopefully cement her interest in caching so its not just me and my dog. Thanks in advance, Lee
  9. Hi Martin, I've just donated for a card mate, Thanks, Lee
  10. Thanks guy and gals. Super quick replys, thanks.
  11. Thanks for all your help guys. I'll do some testing with and without waas and see if there is a difference. Thanks for the info I now understand it a little more than I did before.
  12. I am new to this but am fascinated by the idea of posting my own caches. I did plant some on Sunday then listed the coordinates etc when I got home. How long does it normally take for the caches to become active. Also when the cache becomes active what kind of information do I get when people find it. Do I get emailed with there comments etc. Thanks
  13. I am based in the U.K and have just bought a garmin gpsmap60sxc unit. Now I'm new to this geocaching and wondered if I should enable the WAAS function or not. Will it give me more accurate information with this enabled or not. Thanks in advance for your input.

  15. Well I found my first cache on my iphone over a week ago and got hooked by the idea of caching.. I found one cache next to a set of traffic lights that I have to stop at every day to work and now it makes me laugh each time as I see it every day. I invested in a garmin gpsmap 60sxc today and found another five while walking my dog. The iphone was run next to it and I must admit it was pretty close to the reading I was getting on the garmin. Tomorrow is a different story though I bet as I am looking for another five in the woods. 10 finds so far and no doubt many more to come. No questions as of yet but I'm sure I'll have some soon..
