  1. Funny Droo! Wobbly legs getting stronger...will work on the "patience is a virtue" sentiment. In the meantime, I'll be off to do a FTF thanks to the pointers on notifications I received from Steben6.
  2. Steben6! THANKS for steering me in the right path. I just set up a couple of notifications. I can't wait for that email to come now and give some other geacachers in this area a run for their money!!!! Bwahahahahahah!!!!
  3. Thanks for the advice GregsonVaux. I'll try that.
  4. Hello, I'm still a rank newbie, having only 48 finds under my belt. I am desperate to find a geocoin! I keep hoping one will turn up, but usually the cache only contains plastic toys, stickers, etc...I was excited to finally find a travelbug and now I've actually found two of them! Is there a trick to finding coins or knowing when there is a new cache hidden in your area that has a coin? I guess an answer to this question would also be the answer to how do become a "First to Find?" How do people know a cache has been hidden almost as soon as it's published? I'm always late by the time I get the Geocache.com newsletter that arrives in my mailbox on Thursdays. It's as if there must be some other way to keep on top of newly hidden caches?? Some that contain geocoins??? My name is Kris and my caching name is OregonK9. Partly because I'm from Oregon and because I take my awesome dog with me on all my geocaching trips. I've been bitten by the bug and I wish I could cache everyday. I love the search!!! Thanks!http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
  5. The GPX file must be unzipped first, if your Pocket Query is zipped. Also the GPX file goes in /Garmin/GPX. You need to open up the Garmin and navigate to that folder before dragging the GPX file to the Garmin. Thanks for the reply and help, but i'm still not having success. When I "open" up the Garmin while it is attached to the Mac via a USB cable, the GPX folder shows that it is in the Garmin already. I'm confused when you say to "navigate to that folder and drag it into the Garmin."
  6. Sorry if this topic has been covered already. I couldn't find anything in the forums. I have an Oregon 550t. I upgraded to a premium membership and ran a pocket query. It is now ready to download to my GPS unit (Oregon 550t) I am also using a Macbook Pro. I have done everything I can to try and transfer the pocket query to my unit, but nothing seems to be happening when I do it. The steps I am taking: 1. I click on the pocket query "available for download" 2. in the pop up window, I highlight the pocket query file and click to drag it to my Garmin, which is under the devices on my computer. 3. It briefly shows the pocket query being transferred to my GPS. (which is attached to my computer via a USB cable) 4. I open the GPS on my computer and confirm that it is indeed on the device. 5. I "eject" the GPS from the computer and unhook it from the USB 6. I turn my GPS on and open the Geocache to find my new caches, but the same old ones are there. I don't see anything new. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm not a total Techie idiot, but I'm not a computer/GPS expert either. And to make matters worse, I'm a recent PC to Mac convert. Thanks!
  7. Thanks so much Eusty. That did it!!!
  8. Hello, I'm new to geocaching. I was using a 3g iPhone, but wanted to take the plunge and get a fully functional GPS. I researched and decided to get a Garmin Oregon 550t. I also upgraded to a premium membership. I loaded a couple of nearby caches into it and went to do a couple of quick searches. While out in the field, I tried to view more information on a particular cache, but couldn't. My GPS told me that info was only available with a premium membership. ????? After I returned home, I did a pocket query and made sure my membership was indeed a premium one, plus I downloaded a bunch of caches. I then opened the same search I had problems with before and clicked on the hint. Once again, my GPS said it was only available with a premium membership. What am I doing wrong????? Thanks!
