  1. If you didn't get a serial cable with your unit, you should probably buy one. Just like others, use EasyGps to move coordinates from the pc to your Meridian. If you want detailed streets, then you will have to purchase Mapping software. You can use a card reader or just the serial cable to move maps from your computer to your Meridian. I have the Meridian Gold and have had a lot good luck with it. Good luck. -Robert
  2. I've been using the Rayovac 15 minute rechargeables since August and have had excellent success with them. They do tend to get hot when charging, but I've had no problems. I found mine at Walmart, similar price compared to the 1 hour rechargers. It came with 2 AA's. I bought 8 more AA's for about the same price as other AA rechargeables. I use them for my digital camera and my GPS. I have had very good results so far, and have done many recharges. I haven't timed the batteries life, but Rayovac claims 1000 recharges and 4x life compared to Alkalines. -Robert -MeriGold
  3. Nate, That was me on the the The Wire I've made several posts/replies and mentioned GeoCaching. I am an Isuzu fan, with my original 1993 Rodeo, although 2wd. I have a Magellan Meridian Gold, with a 16 meg memory card, and upload regional maps from the Street CD. Although, from what everyone recommends my next purchase will be the Topo CD, people say it has all the standard roads plus topo maps. I use my MeriGold in the Isuzu, hiking, and biking. I recommend you find a store that has Garmin and Megallans, look at them both and decide which you like better. Both make quality units. I have had excellent success with my Magellan Meridian Gold. Just about any unit would be good for hiking, 4 wheeling, fishing, or just getting out in the woods. Just remember to mark a waypoint of your car or starting point of the trail (or boat ramp), then you will be able to find your way back easily. -Robert -MeriGold and Isuzu owner.
  4. I did a search and didn't find anything on this, so here I post. I went to Walmart and bought a new Rayovac (I-C3 technology) charger for $23, and it comes with 2 batteries. I think a 4 pack of the batteries were about $8, if I remember correctly. It charges in 15 minutes and uses a microchip in each battery for proper charging. Claims to last 4 times longer than alkalines, and can be recharged up to 1000 times. I got them for my GPS and new digital camera. I charged 12 batteries the other night, and sure enough it took about 15 minutes for each batch of 4. Although, the batteries came out scorching hot. The charger has a built in fan that runs while doing the high speed charging. It will also charge NiMh and NiCd batteries overnight. Walmart, claims $27 online: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/search-ng.gsp?search_constraint=0&search_query=rayovac&Continue.x=20&Continue.y=12 Here is another link to a site for $39. http://store.yahoo.com/sundancesolar/raps615mibac1.html -Robert -MeriGold user.
  5. I use the Vehicle Mounting Bracket I bought mine at Bass Pro shops in Atlanta. I forget the price I paid, but I use it all the time. One thing I did on my last road trip, instead of using the suction cups on the windshied. I twisted the bracket sideways and stuck it on my side window, actually I put it on my small triangle vent window. That way I can still open my window. This way instead of the long reach to the windshield, it is at my finger tips and I don't have to squint to read the screen. It floats between my blinker and window. And it does not obstruct my vision of the road or my side mirror. The bracket is fairly sturdy and does not bounce around at all. -Rob MeriGold
  6. My Pocket Unless I'm in the car, then I use the car holder and mount to the windshield. -Dudeman -MeriGold user.
